HOLLYWOOD TO BAIL OUT DETROIT? “Michigan, home of the automotive industry, is raising the stakes in the nationwide competition for Hollywood’s lucrative film jobs. In what it bills as the most generous film incentives program in the country, the Great Lake State is announcing today that it will begin offering a 40% rebate on production spending to filmmakers, as well as tax credits for companies that invest in new studios.”

With all the burned out buildings and eh-hem, “interesting” individuals lining Michigan Avenue towards Trumbull or Woodward and Eight Mile, it’s actually the perfect setting for some post-Apocalyptic crap (sigh). Thanks Kwame, thanks.

Sorry, just strictly speaking of “the Motor City” here and its illustrious mayor, not the entire state.

Anyone need a cheap ghetto to film in, come here, please! Take all the attention away from our sick, useless race-baiting miserable joke of a mayor.
Crazazy - Nice to see another Michiganian/Detroiter here!

No. 4 no more the Hills! (mae) says:

Hey, I’m from Michigan too. (St. Clair Shores.) But I lived in Detroit proper long enough to be mugged twice, have a car stolen, witness a double homicide, and have my apartment robbed! Go Detroit! I’m anxiously awaiting Kwame being tossed in prison. Of course, he probably won’t.
If Hollywood comes here to shoot movies, I welcome them. I will totally become a pap and sell photos for obscene amounts of money. (If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em)

I used to work there for years– a coworker’s house was firebombed–twice, a friend’s little sister held up at gun-point (one block away from the police station), and I saw a number of crimes happen in broad daylight in the cultural center of the city where it’s said to be safer. I love that Kwame says that he was “destined” to be mayor of Detroit…everything that man says is a lie! But like you said Mae, he won’t go to prison because so many people have fallen for his crap.

He thinks he’s hot shit! He thinks he’s untouchable, and he’s going to get away with it all. He’s in too deep now, he’ll never resign. I’m sure he’s still convinced he’s great for the city. He’s an embarassment to Detroit, he’s an embarassment to politicians, and that’s really saying something.

I know, all the stuff that people have dug up on him over the years and nothing pans out, it’s unbelievable. The whole city government is corrupt, too–I always love how the local news digs up dirt on Detroit city council and school board members, too–such disasters, it’s so sad.

Oh, totally. Its really ridiculous how corrupt the city of Detroit’s council and school board members are and they still have their jobs. It makes me shake my head in amazement. Just when you think it couldn’t get anymore obscene, you watch the news the next day and its worse.

I’ve only yelled at my TV twice in my entire life (probably because I don’t watch sports..) and one of those times was when Kwame came out with that unbelieveable bullshit at the end of the state of the city address. I get pissed just thinking about it.

Oh Luz, you got a laugh out of this old crone! I watch football and yell at the tv all the time during that season.

That is the only time though, unless some idiot is about to go check out the basement during the scary music. With no back up. Why do THEY DO that? They WANT me to have a heart attack.

No. 12 Mig says:

We moved to the Detroit area from out of state almost two years ago (yes, I found opportunity here). I spend a lot of time in my work dealing with some of the most reputedly corrupt sections of governments in “emerging markets” and what I’ve seen here in Detroit rivals the worst third world kleptocracies. I hope Kym Worthy kicks Kwame’s ass.
