But the real growth is coming from nontraditional watching, not TV time, according to Nielsen. Nielsen found that Americans spent 56% more time watching time-shifted TV, primarily on a digital video recorders, and 9% more time using the internet to watch at home and at work. I don't think this means people are sitting on their asses more (well ok they are but not because of increased screened time). I've seen a fair amount of people watching their ipods standing up for one and if people weren't sitting on their ass watching things then they'd probably be sitting on their ass and knitting or reading a book. I imagine a large chunk of the average person's sitting on their ass time is spent in cars, also.
