Orphans!

The photos of Mary Louise Parker and her adopted baby are off limits due to some very rococo digital legalities that I don't want to get in to. So, here's who she's copying. Start the presses!

Why would you accuse her of copying Angelina Jolie? Adoption is just what some people consider ethically responsible. Even if Jolie came up with the concept, she would be "supporting" her not "copying" her.

I support my best friend's marriage but I'm sure as hell not copying her. And what do you mean, ethnically responsible?

(Waits to be pelted with explanation of my misunderstanding.)

I said ethically responsible, not ethnically responsible. Some people argue having children biologically is solely for self-fulfillment and that it is wrong to create more children when there are so many who don't have safe homes. And the fact that one more person is practising adoption does not mean they are a Jolie wannabe.

And, sar, what do you mean by your best friend's wedding and all? lol

i was pretending not to know that you said ethically. but i knew. i don't think Cords point (does Cord write all of these?? we always say Cord wrote it but… do we know?) was that MLP was a copycat. Just that one could, from a distance, perceive celebrity adoption of non-US children as a movement and a trend, in the friendliest of the uses of those words… and Angelina was sort of the initiator of the movement, though i'm pretty sure she wasn't the first. The idea is that celebrities are no strangers to building their entire lives around their image, so in the case that any of these women are making this decision to enhance their careers (i think it happens, i really do) then you can begin to use words like "copycat" not to mention "trendsetter" and "this season's accessory."

I'm totally busted up on my sleep inducing chemical of choice, so that's all I got. I did want to draw a distinction between support and copying. You can support someone by believing in them, and you can even support a specific decision by believing in it for its own sake. But when you show support by doing the same thing someone else did…. perhaps you're not really supporting much of anything, and "support" happens to be a flattering and convenient argument for what you actually did, which was copy them. I fought every minute to stay awake and keep typing this. I'm like the scene at the close of Amadeus. I'm all "press this key, then this key! this key sharp!" (cough cough cough!)

There was a famous dancer named Josephine Baker who adopted children throughout the world. She had 10 boys and 2 girls whom she called her "Rainbow Tribe". I think this is who Angelina wants to be.
What wrong with American kids, not needy enough?

Cord is supposed to be skeptical, not stupidly cynical. It's a good thing she's given the child a chance. Saying she's just following a trend is trying to take all the good out of what she did.
And, anyways, Jolie was not the first celebrity to adopt. Hugh Jackman, for example, adopted before her.

And she is supporting the same cause (not supporting Jolie) by doing the same thing Jolie did. Copying has a negative connotation.

How you feeling danaleri? Please drink for my entertainment tonight and post.

Any one who give a child a home is ok in my book. I don't think she's looking for the latest accessory and Mary-Louis Parker seems to have her head on straight.

I would also venture to say if there was anybody who started this movement it would be, Mia Farrow.

There is greater demand for adoptable babies in America than there is supply (at least Caucasian ones, not sure about other races - and yes, it's sad that there's a difference), so for someone who only wants to adopt an infant, it actually makes a lot more sense to look outside the country. I'm also venturing a guess that most foreign orphans are needier than American ones.

Took my hydroxycut-excedrin-coke(a-cola). All better, until I started surfing the internet and found my little gem above. first thought "holy shit, I was on the internet last night?" Its all good though because 1. I used punctuation and spelled some words correctly and 2. I didnt write any long letters to exes like last time….phheewww

There is nothing worse than the drunken late night call to the ex. Not that I've done such a thing, nope, maybe just the two times. Possibly it was three. Damn you tequila.

I'm sure in the age of texting this happens even more than before. You have your phone with you at the bar and can text/call immediately, instead of waiting 'til you get home and having your friends hopefully talk you out of it.

danaleri, think of it this way. for all they know, you were playing a mind game with them by replying back. you were getting the upper hand by being all chummy chummy… and now they don't know what to think, and they miss you.

just a possible alternate scenario so you don't keep replying the worst available one :)

I ditto that, Evil. It's easier to be all brave and hit that send button. You can't take that back. I did have a friend who knew her ex's password but he already read it before she deleted it, oooops. Double shame.

Look at it this way, Danaleri, you got the last word.
