So she fasts sometimes before a show, meh. Some people take enemas before anal. Some people don't swim 1 hour after eating. Based on what she does, I wouldn't want a bunch of food sloshing around making me feel bloated and gassy. It makes sense. She's good.
Really, big deal.
It's not like Dita's eating fucking tapeworms as women used to way back when. And it's not like she's saying 'Hey kids, starve yourselves all the time!'
Personally, I think she looks amazing. Her career is based on looking hot, and she does.
Lost ……… zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….. I'm sorry, were you talking about something?
I'd be pissed if I was Mandy Moore, too. Who would want the world to know you slept with Handy Manny?
Well, if you haven't watched it, don't start now! It's surprising to me how popular the show is, considering how highly intellectual it is. Not to mention the supernatural element. I know more than half the people who watch it don't get the references (see #3 - unless you watch from the beginning, you will think it's boring). So, for anyone who wants to watch one of the top 10 best written shows of all time, rent or buy the first two seasons, then wait for this one to come out on DVD. It's so much easier that way. Then you won't 1) bitch about the amount of time in between episodes, or 2) bitch about storylines not being resolved. Those of you who fall under #1 need to understand that shooting, production, editing, etc. take time. Those of you who fall under #2, please remember that reveals wouldn't be as rewarding if there wasn't a build-up.
One of my favorite parts of the show is how the flashbacks get you inside the head of the character so you know EXACTLY how they are feeling about their present situation. My other favorite part of the show is John Locke's storyline - his inherent intuitiveness, his newfound positivity after a life of hardship, his humility and vulnerability.
Thank you Entertainment Weekly for that winning endorsement.
/I watch the show.
What IN THE WORLD is Teri Hatcher doing "having lunch" with former President Bush?!
Or 3) You simply find you don't like the show, no matter how hyped, "intelligent," and well-written as it may be. And in the end, you find yourself relieved that they a) went on such a long hiatus that you broke your habit of parking yourself in front of the tv every Wed night, and b) changed the timeslot so that even if you wanted to, you couldn't watch it because you go to bed by 10 and don't have a VCR or TiVo/DVR and aren't willing to buy either one just for a show you don't really like to begin with but kept watching because everyone said you had to like it, or were stupid for not liking it, or essentially talked to you like a third grader if you didn't find every single tiny dickheaded reference to Ocean Airlines and the numbers.
Or maybe that's just me.
I could care less about the show's self-references. They don't mean nearly as much as the references to literature, music, history (including pop culture from past decades), philosophy, religion, and science. The Dharma Initiative itself uses symbols from the I-Ching, but that's never explained. For those who care, the symbols represent the elements and the directions. The word dharma is symbolic, because it is the Hindu concept for "the path to enlightenment, specifically living a life of generosity, love, and wisdom". Meaning, the Dharma Initiative was founded to benefit humanity. This is a show which has real depth, it enriches the soul. I've never seen anything like it in my life.
If you don't like the show, that's cool. I put my original comment up because I've seen lots of people who have said they think the show is boring, but usually somewhere in their comment (these are posters at TMZ, which does a weekly synopsis) they mention the fact that they haven't watched the entire series, or have missed episodes. I saw the zzzzzzzzzz comment, and had to respond.
I'm sorry it sounds like I'm some PR person - I'm not. I wasn't going to watch Lost myself in the beginning. I was an Alias fan, but I found myself turning the TV on a little bit earlier every week during the first season until I was watching full episodes.
Oh, I've seen every episode. As it aired, not on DVD. *lol* I thought the first season was incredible. The second season, well, I think it's a great cure for insomnia.
I'll absolutely acknowledge that their historical and literary references are incredible. I just don't personally find it entertaining enough to carry an entire show, especially alongside the cheesy self-references. I used to entertain myself finding the Stephen King references.
Alas, those days are over.
Just finished watching the new episode. Loved it. :)
Personally, I don't think that the show is so self-important that it shoves any type of reference in your face. I just think it adds a lovely element to the storytelling. I'm also a huge fan of Robert Jordan's series The Wheel of Time, but many people are extremely vocal with their impatience that he hasn't wrapped it up yet. I understand - to each his own.
Kitchy, I'm truly sorry you felt you wasted your time watching Lost, but I'm here as a fan to say that not everyone is bored. I'm sure there's something out there that rocks your socks that I would hate. For instance, American Idol has ridiculously high ratings, but the only way you'd catch me watching it is if I were strapped into a chair with my eyes propped open (like the Others did to Carl tonight).
I don't recall saying everyone was bored. Just me.
