OK, as a long time Tori Amos fan (13 yrs), I can guarantee you she is not trying to conjure Carrie. Menstruation, period. The church wants us to be ashamed of being woman. Hello - Eve? Women still aren't getting equal treatment in society, not in ways that really matter (like equal pay for equal work). Her father was a Methodist minister, if that tells you anything. She loves her some metaphors, and you can't really be a fan unless you get them. If she hadn't been a musical genious (playing Mozart by ear at the age of 4), she would have been a scholar. My kind of lady - she loves fairies, shoes, feminism, being a mom…and she hates organized religion. She does, however, love Jesus (Mrs. Jesus is a great song - check it out). So, she's a bit of an oxymoron - I don't think many people get her, and I guess those of us who do really respect her for not putting on a mask for the world.

This just because I think it will explain much, if you really care to know where Tori is coming from. She has often been falsely accused of portraying herself as a rape victim. She's portraying herself as a survivor, and advocating for other survivors to seek help.

Right on, tlatzoteotl, I like Tori Amos, also! She is a female empowerer. I appreciate the fact that she encourages women to seek help and treatment after rape–In fact, this image, to me, means that she WAS raped…It is all up to personal interpretation. I say, You GO, TORI!

Ok, so I typed all of that an hour past bedtime. I don't think anyone is trying to say she was never raped, but they have tried to say that she's trying to garner attention from her rape, that she's doing a whole "feel sorry for me" victim act. She was just trying to heal. I know that she doesn't play "Me and a Gun" at concerts anymore (and when she did, goodness, you could have heard a pin drop), which says to me that she's been able to put it all behind her now.

Unfortunately, I too am a statistic. But I consider myself a SURVIVOR, also! It is just going through the process of healing that hurts like HELL :(
