Black Statues Stare Like This
The US Commission of Fine Arts has approved the revised design for the 28-foot Martin Luther King Jr national memorial statue. Opponents of the original design said it felt "confrontational" and similar to statues toppled in formerly dictatorial nations.
The new design gives King a less furrowed brown and a mouth tilted ever so slightly into a smile. It's exactly how the civil rights hero wouldn't look upon a nation that still has people asking if the White House can be called that with a black president in it.

I think they did the right thing by changing his expression.
Is it just me or does he resemble the cowardly lion in the before statue.
I just think it looks awkward, even with the changes. There's something about the way he has his arms crossed. I know it was probably taken from a photograph, but it looks like he's laying in a casket or something, and that's just creepy.
Statues freak me out in general. They are right up there with clowns as things I wouldn't want to run into in a dark alley. And it does look like he's laying in a casket. Super creepy.

Yeah, I think his arms should have been raised in an open gesture, rather than crossed and ready for burial
Yeah… the arms make him look pissed. He always used his hands when talking, so I think they should have been in action somehow.
I think he should be fingering us.
That statue isn't doing it for me. It doesn't even really resemble him.
