Why So Serious?

The Dark Knight trailer is out, and it's as creepy and jarring as you might expect. We can't decide if the movie looks good on its own merits or if the main draw is seeing one of Heath Ledger's last performances. (Which, may we add, is phenomenal.)

I'm seeing the movie because Christian Bale is in it. Heath Ledger was never a blip on my radar while alive (I kept wondering why they cast the dude from the stupid medieval movie with the cheesy songs as the Joker), so him being in movie doesn't make a difference to me one way or the other. Well, except that I've been praying ever since hearing he was the Joker that he didn't screw it up. If it turns out he's more of an actor than I expected, cool, but he's not BALE!.

I disagree that the trailor is all about Heath. I actually think its refreshingly unbias. I mean, he is a major part of the movie so they need to show him, but I thought it was very balanced and well done.

I've always been a fan of Heath Ledger and thought he had great potential. Sure he's done some cheesy movies, but you have to start somewhere. I'm pretty sure Brokeback Mtn wasn't cheesy or made for teeny boppers. He was on his way, its still such a great loss and tragedy.

I didn't think it was all about Heath, either. It looked to be all about the story and outlined the two villains (I am assuming that Harvey Dent isn't Harvey Dent before he became Two-Face), gave us a glimpse of some new toys, and, of course, allowed us the opportunity to sigh and shiver a little at the sight of Bale as Bruce Wayne-Batman.

I'll be going to see Bale as Batman, Freeman as Fox, and to see Ledger's performance because the earlier teaser that was floating around made it look incredibly dark, and brilliant.

I don't think it's all about Heath at all. He's the villain, it's no different than any other trailer. And he looks absolutely brilliant.

I don't get the subtitle "Why so serious?" either.

It's a line the Joker says in the movie. It's in one of the older trailers.

He'll win an Oscar even if he doesn't deserve one. It'll be sweet of them to try to make a dead man grin.
