it’s not that the musicianship is terrible (it’s not great, but a rock version of this song isn’t out of the question), but that they clearly don’t get the point of the song. it is an ANTI-GANG anthem full of satire and vitriol and somehow in their hands it has become a whiny, loud, a-melodic version of saturday night’s all right for fighting - but with even more glitter and eye makeup than elton had.
