Is anyone else a bit turned off by the almost religious posture of these fans? I know those t-shirts and bumper stickers say "Soccer is life," guys, but geez. Dude kicks a ball well.

I think the reaction of the media is insane.
I don't think the reaction of the fans is any different from the zealous reactions of fans of any sport. When Randy Johnson moved to the D-backs, you'd think the Second Coming had arrived. That's just being a sportsfan, in my opinion.
Right. Like the Atlanta Braves fans with their "tomahawk chop."
Frankly, I'm just a little disturbed by the mental picture my mind conjured at the reading of "golden balls"…just me.
