I agree Luz!! I understand this guy is to quote every news network across the globe 'the greatest olympian' but if it wasn't for those medals no one would bat an eyelash his way, the hype is baffling. He's cute and that comes mostly from him being humble for an athlete but he's no Adonis.

I really can't stand him. He comes off like an arrogant prick, and as he is so much better than everyone else, there is no interest in watching his races. However, I can't blame him for thinking he's god's gift, since everyone keeps assuring him that it is so.

Jenne - I disagree on the arrogance part. For what he is acheiving, I feel like he is pretty humble. He could be a whole lot more cocky if he tried I am sure, but I kind of get the feeling his team supports him pretty well. But I am sure they (Lochte)would still like to kick his ass in a race.

You know what? I will never begrudge the opportunity to openly ogle young men half my age who are, by the necessity of their art and craft, displaying their awesome physiques on my TV nightly. The only thing I want to complain about is that the new swimming suits are either full body or at least cover up the legs. Not that the old banana hammocks were so fantastic, but at least an old lady like me could see the curve of an ass cheek, the angle of a thigh tapering to the knee, and the fat free slice of a hairless pec. So let's give Phelps his due: he at least still shows his young, hairless torso for us. Sigh.

Lochte is much cuter. (What is a "butter face", by the way? I mean, I get it from context, but where did that come from?) However, Phelps's athletic ability and determination are nothing short of awe-inspiring. Also, I found it amazing how his freakishly formed body (long torso, short legs, long arms, double joints) makes him a swimming machine. I did read, though (in the NYTimes, I think), that he likes to pimp out his car and listen to rap music in his spare time. Which makes him no more original or creative outside of the swimming than 85% of American men aged 16-29, as far as I can tell. I guess I'd take Lochte's upside-down rain clouds over car-pimping, if I had to make conversation with one of them. Anyone else?
