Is it just me, or does that look like a really bad, low-budget movie, "I just got knocked the eff out, halloween makeup job to anyone but me?

I read about this yesterday, and (smack my hand for this) I did wonder about the authenticity of this "attack".

IF true, the guy should be put in jail for assault, to be sure. it's disgusting and should be roundly condemned.

but part of me was wondering if this wasn't some ploy to for the mccain campaign to say "see? obama supporters can be JUST as violent as mccain supporters". and now that I see the B was "carved" backwards, I wonder even more.

somehow, I don't see ATM bandits caring that much about a presidential race.

Even if the robbery was real, there's no way a criminal is going to hang around with their victim all the way from the ATM back to their car and then start up more crap after they already got the money they wanted. Especially over a McCain sticker.

This doesn't suprise me. I grew up in Pittsburgh and moved about 3 years ago to DC. I know McCain is trying to paint Murtha as some bad guy for the comments he made about western Pennsylvanias, but he was pretty spot on. I just don't think there are as many racists there as Murtha thinks but there are many. Many areas in Pittsburgh are very segregated. When I was around 20 I moved to this town right outside of the city that was probably 102% white. I remember driving around and seeing confederate flags hanging from people's porches and "No ___"(I am sure you can figure out the word there) on the end of the bridge that connects it with a town with a large black population. Also a you may remember the name Jonny Gammage. He was a black man killed in a traffic stop by white police men in 1995 in a suburb outside of Pittsburgh. People want to paint the area as a "Stillers lovin, pierogi eatin town that loves all of yinz" but in many ways it still needs a lot of work.

If it's true, it's horrible. I don't care if she's a McCain supporter or not, no one deserves this type of treatment. That being said, I don't think it's true at all. She's full of shit.

The McCain campaign is spending money on robo calls stating blatant lies about Obama. They're still pushing the Ayers thing, and at rallies now, they're actually making signs for their supporters to hold that echo some of those lies.

So all of that stuff costs millions. I wonder how much it would cost to get one girl to take a hit, and then carve a non-permanant knife mark on her cheek. Probably less than all of the robo calls and signs combined.

And again, this whole story is ASSUMING that a robber who ALREADY GOT THE MONEY, wanted to spend that much time at the crime scene with his victim afterward, and risk getting arrested and losing the money he just took.

at first I thought it might be plausible: the B is not necessarily backwards, it could be upside down. If the perp was positioned above her head while she was lying down, the B would be positioned correctly from his POV.

but she states herself that he positioned was on her chest with his knees on her arms. So the B is indeed backwards. This is also supported by the two "outside of the lines"-marks, at the bottom of each loop, which are both indicative of a knife being moved in a downwards pattern (can be best seen on a larger picture: http://www.pittsburghlive.com/.....36090.html)

Yet each of the loops is closed, indicating attention to detail. The top loop can be closed by beginning to make the bottom loop, but why would a perp take the time to close off the bottom one? An anal-retentive, dyslexic 6'4" black male?

Then there's the question of her conflicting reports. First she states that she gave him the 60 dollars "from her pocket" and proceeds to describe the entire attack in detail, including the carving of a B with a "dull knife". In her second statement she claims to have been unconscious for most of it and assumes, since she doesn't have the money, that the perp took it and she only noticed a stinging pain on her cheek when she came to. In that version of events, she wasn't aware of the carved B until her friend took a picture and showed it to her.

I'm sad to say that it does appear very likely that she made (at least parts of) this up. I doubt it's entirely for political reasons though, most likely the personal factor weighed much heavier. It's just too risky an endeavor to not have some personal motive, some justification of an error on her part. Based on the info we have now, I think something happened to the money, that might not have been hers, and she needed a good cover story.
