Ifill Sick

Boooo! Have you heard? The political analyst lady moderating tomorrow's vice-presidential debate, Gwen Ifill, is an African American writing a book about black politicians, one of whom is Barack Obama. Cheaters!!!!!

…Ifill of the Public Broadcasting Service program "Washington Week" is promoting "The Breakthrough," in which she argues the "black political structure" of the civil rights movement is giving way to men and women who have benefited from the struggles over racial equality.

In the Amazon.com promotion for her book, Ifill is described as "drawing on interviews with power brokers," such as Obama and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Wait, Ifill also profiles noted Republican Colin Powell in her Obama bible? Well never mind that. And never mind that she recently told the Associated Press that, even after all her book research into Obama, she "still [doesn't] know if he'll be a good president." We still say she's a Muslin liar in the tank for the Democrats. No doubt she's going to pick on Palin and ask her what Russia weighs on the moon or something, only to then turn around and play nice with Biden, her "brother's" friend. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Just kidding! God, doesn't everybody complaining that Ifill's biased know how scared and paranoid and kinda racist they sound? This woman's a professional, you loons. Yes, Sarah Palin's going to get creamed tomorrow, but that's not going to have anything to do with Gwen Ifill.

no, em, they'll call her "uppity".

and if Biden gets tough, he'll be called "sexist"…although, I think it's sexist if people DON'T treat her exactly as they would a male politician/candidate.

Agreed say what. And also, a few people have said they're leaving MG because of these posts, but I'd like to take the time to say that I actually check here more often because of them. Not because I don't hear about the stories elsewhere, but because I <3 my fellow MGers–many times you've made me stifle a laugh in a cough at work.

I think Palin is in a good position. As long as she doesn't have any major gaffs and manages not to pee herself on stage the Republicans will claim victory. Even is she goes out and is Miss Teen South Carolina they will claim victory, but for her to win all she has to do is not make a huge fool of herself. She doesn't need to 'win' the debate, she just needs to survive it.

If at any time she uses the phrase, such as the Iraq, I might die laughing.

"Muslin" is a fabric, while "Muslim(s)" are a group of people who believe in one God, claim a religious heritage with Christians and Jews, recognizing as prophets those from Abraham through Jesus as important figures or teachers.

Please stop scapegoating all the believers of a major world religion.

Ifill is the real deal. The woman fell down some steps and broke her damn ankle yesterday and is refusing to skip the debate. But it makes me wonder if Palin was anywhere around when Ifill "fell".

No. 13 Howard says:

The nation already is skeptical about the fairness and objectivity of the mainstream media regarding election coverage … so, why in the world is Gwen Ifill the debate moderator, when she is writing a book about Obama? The moderator in a debate … especially one of this importance and magnitude … should be seen as completely fair, objective and above reproach. This is a terrible choice, and could easily have been remedied by choosing from hundreds of other more objective potential moderators. I can imagine the outcry if Michelle Malkin, or Ann Coulter was chosen as the moderator for the first Vice Presidential debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden. FURTHER MORE … Everyone knows that Roland Martin is in the tank for Obama … and regarding his call for Palin to either 'put up, or shut up' … for millions of Americans, we still feel that Obama never adequately explained why he chose to spend TWENTY YEARS, yes TWENTY YEARS, in Jeremiah Wright's anti-American, racist, black liberation church, which gave a life time achievement award to Louis Farrakhan, and Obama only quit the church due to public outrage and personal ambition.

Her book isn't ABOUT Obama, he is one of the politicians profiled in it. Her book is "bipartisan."

I think I should be moderator, I can ask questions like, "Can each of you please name as many brands of shoes as you can?" to figure out who knows more about our economy.

Howard, I guess you haven't read anything about Sarah Palin's church and it's pastor, the same one that said all Kerry supporters have lost their salvation in heaven. No, you haven't heard of it. I also love how you compare Gwen Ifill to Ann Coulter (seriously, THE Ann Coulter? lol), and how you insinuate that just because Ifill and Obama are black (oh, he's half black by the way), they must be buddies. Congratulations, you my friend are a bigot!

If I am not wrong, wasn't there an issue in 2004 where people were complaining about Ifill being friends with Condi Rice and being too right leaning? She was a moderator then too. I think this is pretty desperate of the McCain camp. They approved her as moderator and they just found out that she has this book coming out? I call BS.

@ wtr

There were probably a lot of people saying that about Obama. I guess the think that separate it for me is that Obama does have some experience to fall back on. Is it enough to be President, honestly I don't know. I think it's laughable the same people who say Obama doesn't have enough experience say that Sarah Palin does.

I was on the bubble as to who I was going to vote for until McCain chose her. Once I started reading up on her for me she was a deal breaker. Add that on my disappointment with McCain rolling over for Bush and it was a done deal for me. If the John McCain of the 1990's was running with someone even half way reasonable I would have a harder choice to make.

I have no problem with McCain picking a women to run with, I just wish he would have made a better choice. If they loose she will get the blame and I think it will be a long time before we see another women get a shot at the White House.

Einstein… the issue is that Ifill's book is about the ascendence of black politicians in the post civil-rights era.

The book is scheduled to come out on inauguration day and interest in Obama will be at a zenith if Obama wins the presidency. A win for Obama would also CONFIRM THE THESIS OF IFILL'S BOOK.

In case you need that spelled out in more detail…Ifill now has a financial interest in Obama's success.

Duh…

This is the first time I have ever seen your site but its not the last. I cannot believe how the Republicans are complaining about this woman. I think they are just trying to create an excuse for Palin's failure before the debates begin. When in doubt, blame the black one in the room. If it wasn't going to be Gwen it would somehow be Barack's fault or they would find that Joe Biden is actually a black man, no a sexist black man. They really need to bite a ruler and grow up.

No. 34 Eve says:

Actually,TRochell, an analogy using Obama or Biden as moderators of a Biden-Palen debate simply equates to nonsense, even when you're assiduously ignoring all the facts about the true moderator other than that of her race (And THAT fact merely in order to smear others as being racists…)

Try reading up on why it just MIGHT be seen as a conflict of interest to moderate a debate when one particular outcome of the election could help you financially.

An understanding of THAT might at least help you make something other than nonsensical analogies…

Also, Eve, Ifill is a journalist. A highly respected journalist. This is her job.

Stop reading Michelle Malkin for a minute, look at the facts (including the fact that most authors have nothing to do with the publisher's decision on date of book launch) (or the fact that Ifill has said - referring to Obama - "I still don't know if he'll be a good president,") and then get back to me.

No. 37 say what? says:

Eve, I gotta disagree with your premise that Obama winning could help her with book sales.

I think her point in the book was that Obama has already seen more success (simply by winning the nomination) than most all of his predecessors. That alone sort of proves her point about civil rights and the advance of black politicians.

I see what you're saying, but I think her book sales will be virtually the same whether he wins or not since she doesn't need a presidential victory to "prove" her book's premise.
