Either of those has the same societal basis as marrying a person of the same sex: no precedent, by definition cannot advance the society by procreation, and a construction wholly without natural basis. Good luck to all of you out there.

Marriage isn’t about what’s “fair” or “right” but about creation and maintenance of a stable society. Show me a single surviving culture which allowed the marriage of two people of the same sex.

If you point to the rate of divorce or parentless children as evidence that the heterosexual union is no less permanent than a homosexual one, I’m inclined to agree. The solution is not to further deconstruct society by allowing novel unions which advance the cause of whimsicality in defining the family, but to strengthen society by strengthening marriage and family. Support your friends who are considering divorce and urge them to work it out. Make sure your children know that birthing children outside of a family unit is unacceptable and almost always doomed to failure. Just as today society refuses to accept racism that was the norm 50 years ago, we can change from what is the norm today to one that values the family.

JMC - You truly are a dolt! Can your dog or an inanimate object enter into a contract? No. Then they can’t enter into a marriage either. Marriage is a contract, plain and simple. If you care to imbue it with childish “magical” thinking, that’s your problem, keep it out of my business. Also, your b.s. about “procreation” as a prerequisite doesn’t stand up. Are women past childbearing age or people who are sterile prohibited from marrying in your society?

You may be right that there are no surviving societies that accepted same-sex marriages. Sadly, gentle, thoughtful, loving peoples like that tend to be wiped out by small minded “stable societies” like the one you extol.

You say deconstruct society and it becomes obvious that you are just a spin phrase religious toady. Why don’t you say where this position really comes from, your belief in an invisible grandpa in the sky and what you’ve been told is HIS position on the subject. Right? Your argument nails it, JCM: The door is now wide open for a given individual to enter into “marriage” with their mother, their sister, their brother–without judicial repercussion, and even if at odds with the wishes of the vast majority of citizens of our country. Indeed an adult male or female will now ultimately argue that he or she harbors a “God-given” right to marry a child who consents to marriage and sexual relations. If in fact our rapidly declining society will so readily endorse homosexual marriage, what in fact prevents us from endorsing the aforementioned demonstrations of “love”? Indeed why prohibit me from marrying my consenting sister if homosexual marriage is sanctioned?

Homosexuality helped facilitate the fall of Germany’s Weimar Republic and the subsequent rise of Nazism. History is replete with said instances of social upheaval–and many of these in the name of homosexuality and promiscuity. Make way for the decline of the U.S. and the rise of China. So long as China doesn’t repeat our mistakes, so it should be that she rightly reigns in the wake of our coming collapse. Indeed let biblical prophecy be fulfilled. Show me a more vivid and believable illustration of the veracity of the Bible’s words than the prophesied rise of militant homosexuality today!
