If you are among the last contestants to survive American Idol, one of two things will happen to you after the show wraps: You will make the morning show press rounds, announce a record deal with a major label, put out an album, win the Grammy for Best New Artist, and go on to a lifetime of fame and money; or you will make the morning show press rounds, announce a record deal with a major label, put out an album, watch sales stall at 200, and get dropped from your label. Guess which category Blake Lewis — who lost to Jordin Sparks — falls into?

Does She Remember The VMA's?

wenn17074542.jpg

Britney Spears was inexplicably not asked to perform at this year's Grammy Awards, but that didn't stop the walking disaster from acting like a guest judge on American Idol while watching the awards show from home:

About Beyonce's widely acclaimed duet with Tina Turner, Britney reportedly quipped, 'Too bad she can't dance as good as Tina — who's old enough to be her grandmother!'

Even though Amy Winehouse looked sober and clean, the former princess of pop reportedly said of Winehouse's much-anticipated performance via satellite from London, 'Look at her! Look how stoned she is! She is so obviously stoned!'

Oh snap, you girls just got served — by a woman who constantly shows up in public wearing no pants and a pink wig.

No S-E-L-F-R-E-S-P-E-C-T

aretha1

So that we can ignore it for the rest of the post: Yes, Aretha Franklin has put on a tremendous amount of weight and looks to be very unhealthy. But, at hand here: Her rage at being slighted at the Grammys, which might be bigger than her physical body!

When Beyonce and Tina Turner hit the Grammy stage for their high-octane duet on Sunday, …the woman known as the "Queen of Soul" was left in a state of dismay over Beyonce's introducing Turner as "the Queen."

Clearly offended, Aretha Franklin says in a statement, "I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé, however I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy. In addition to that, I thank the Grammys and the voting academy for my 20th Grammy and love to Beyoncé anyway."

No love to Tina? Pointed!

While she will continue to hold the title of Queen of Soul, Franklin's original handle will from now on be interchangeable with the excellencies the Queen of Paranoia and the Queen of Being a Damn Baby.

Talkin' Shirt

We really, really, really do believe Nas to be a bit of a genius, we just wish he could better vocalize his intentions behind calling his upcoming album Nigger.

If you're a fan of Nas and understand what he's trying to say, this video is difficult to watch; if you don't really care about rap or postmodernism, at least you can enjoy seeing the lily-white reporter awkwardly discuss the MC's shirt before telling him he's wrong about hip-hop being dead ("Kanye's up for eight Grammys!").

Unforgivable

nataliecole

Natalie Cole, the jazzy daughter of famous crooner Nat King Cole, is such a hater!

Cole says she was "disappointed" that notoriously troubled singer Amy Winehouse was awarded with five Grammys at Sunday's ceremony, adding, "I don't think bad behavior should be rewarded…"

Anticipate a windfall, charities of LA! As Nat King Cole carried on many well-publicized affairs throughout his marriage, we expect the morally outraged Natalie will soon be getting rid of all of her cheating father's dirty, dirty money. Otherwise, she's a hypocrite who shouldn't talk anymore.

Stars: They're Just Like Us!

rihanna2.jpg

After nabbing the Grammy for her hit song "Umbrella," Rihanna found herself in a minor vehicular accident. The singer was leaving a Def Jam afterparty when another vehicle veered off the road and crashed into Rihanna's parked car. Nobody was injured.

The report failed to mention the other driver's name, but we have a feeling it was Kanye West, who had taken his post-Grammy rage to the streets: He was overheard yelling, "I should have won! Give a black man a chance!" before speeding away from the crime scene in search of Herbie Hancock.

Money Right; Sense of Decency Shot to Shit

We've said before that Kanye West is an insufferable egomaniac whose work is often incongruous with the pride he has in it. If in the past you've disagreed with our assessment, look no further than the rapper's Grammy acceptance speech last evening to offer validity to our naysaying.

Throughout three minutes of bloviating, West tells fellow musician Common that if he wanted to win the award he shouldn't have released his record this year, demands that "wrap up" music be silenced so that he can continue speaking and plainly says that Amy Winehouse and himself are the only musicians deserving of the award for album of the year (Herbie Hancock later beat them both out). It's unbearable, and his mother passing doesn't give him a Dickhead License. To quote our roommate, "All night I didn't want anyone to win, I just wanted him to lose."

After the jump, the best moment of last night's Grammys, when country singer Vince Gill responded to Kanye.

Too Fierce

beytina

Beyonce Knowles and Tina Turner took the Grammy stage last night to get funky and shoot menacing, icy glares at the awestruck audience. Rollin'!

Watch Out, Linds

The celebs came out in droves for UMG's Grammy Celebration; among them was renowned musical genius Lindsay Lohan. Where was her Grammy? "Rumors" is still one of the most beautiful songs of all time. She spent the evening hanging out with the great influences of Hollywood at a venue that was sure to be alcohol- and drug-free.

Fourth Chances

Amy Winehouse's Grammy performance last night was uncharacteristically free of slurring, stumbling and projectile phlegm. Without a doubt, the preposterously skinny chanteuse's good behavior was due in large part to the fact that she was ostensibly not bursting with narcotics. Yes, rehab. Yes, yes, yes.

For Having The Balls To Show Up Without An Invite

chrisdaughtry22.jpgcarrieunderwood22.jpgfantasia22.jpgaceyoung2.jpg

Whether you choose to accept it or not, American Idol has become a major presence in the music industry, with many contestants cranking out hit records, starring on Broadway, and … making fists at cameras. Last night's Grammy Awards attracted some of the best of the Idols, including Chris Daughtry, Carrie Underwood and Fantasia Barrino. Ace Young showed up as well for no apparent reason (other than to remind us he's still alive).

Now Please Go Away

kelis.jpg

Kelis was invited to the Grammy Awards last night — presumably for the lyrical masterpiece that is "Milkshake" — and wanted to make sure everyone noticed her. But instead of the ridiculous choice of jacket (yes, it was an advertisement for husband Nas' new album — it still seems out of place), our eyes went immediately to her horrendous gold pants. Congrats, Kelis: You managed to pull off an outfit that is offensive on multiple levels, and no Grammy could top that.

Aesthetic Consequences

winehousewenn

Amy Winehouse got some major dental work done to brighten her smile before her performance at tonight's Grammys. Friends of the singer say Winehouse's teeth were in such poor condition they had begun to regularly fall out.

Emerging from a second visit to a London dentist yesterday, Amy flashed a bright white smile to onlookers before being escorted by her father Mitch back to the centre she is receiving treatment in.

This is a far-cry from December when she was spotted with gaps in her mouth suggesting her teeth had fallen out.

A friend close to her admitted at the time…"Her mouth is full of holes and she is desperately worried she is going to lose more. She has actually pulled a tooth out herself, which is absolutely disgusting."

Now that there's molars where only blackness was, how to fill the massive voids in her psyche that she keeps trying to fill with booze and smack?

This Could Be Bad

amyleadfacelead

Despite reports proclaiming otherwise, Amy Winehouse will perform at this year's Grammys, though she will not be attending the event. Perplexed? It's modern technology, silly!

Winehouse will perform live via satellite from a London studio.

“I’m raring to go and really excited to be performing at my first Grammy Awards,” Winehouse tells Usmagazine.com. “I’d like to thank everyone for their support over the last couple of weeks. I’m really sorry I can’t be there, but I appreciate that I'm being given a second chance via satellite. ”

To prepare, she will be leaving rehab today but "will remain under full medical supervision and her treatment will continue as normal…"

It's a relapse for the 21st century!

For Those Not Famous Enough To Get An Invite

Remember that guy? No? It's Jesse McCartney, who used to be popular with the tweens for a couple months back in 2004. He showed up at a Grammy swag event to pose for pictures along with the likes of Lisa Rinna and Debbie Matenopoulos. You know it's a hopping party when Debbie shows up to make things awkward.

This Should End Well

Pictures removed at the request of the copyright holder.

Despite speculation that she would stay in rehab, Amy Winehouse is planning to attend the Grammy Awards this weekend.

She briefly left a London clinic this morning to go to the U.S. embassy to renew her visa, her rep tells Us [Weekly].

A source told Us that Winehouse “is desperate to go and has been told she can go on the condition that she has a minder there and returns to rehab when back in the UK."

This sounds like a great idea. Who needs rehab when you can go hang out with your former enablers in an environment where there is sure to be lots of drugs and alcohol?

But You Knew That

janis

Speaking with striking frankness, Janis Winehouse, Amy's mother, tells UK throwaway the Mirror that she's not sure her daughter will be alive next year. She then claims to have already asked the 24-year-old junkie chanteuse where she'd like to be buried.

"I've known for a long time that my daughter has problems," she says, numbly. "But seeing it on screen rammed it home. I realise my daughter could be dead within the year. We're watching her kill herself, slowly.

"I've already come to terms with her dead. I've steeled myself to ask her what ground she wants to be buried in, which cemetery. Because the drugs will get her if she stays on this road.

"She's invited me to the Grammy awards next month, but part of me thinks she won't be alive by then.

Janis also says she's unpleased with Amy's currently jailed husband, Blake Fielder-Civil: ""What I hope most of all is that Amy lives to make another album - and that it's all about her divorce." BURN!

What a Difference Eight Years Makes

Britney Spears has been banned from attending the 2008 Grammys, an inside source told the Daily News. According to the informant, the fallen pop star will not even be allowed to enter the building.

Just eight short years ago, Spears gave the Grammys performance seen above. Watching it is actually kind of sad.
