Uh oh! Despite the fact that both magazines paid millions and millions of dollars for “exclusive” rights to photographs of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s new set of twins, the Los Angeles Times thinks Hello’s spread has bested People’s in terms of cuteness and intimacy.

Caught Pregnant-Bellied

This week In Touch made Los Angeles Times blogger Liz Snead — who’s been calling on Angelina Jolie to SHOW YOURSELF!!! – a very happy woman: At last, since Entertainment Tonight first falsely reported the superstar mom had given birth to her twins, there’s photo evidence that … she hasn’t.

Let's Go Crazy

The photo agency behind this picture describes its subject, Courtney Love, as “pale and confused.” It’s brief, yes, but quite thorough, we think.

Good Cries

judecry

A new series of portraits by conceptual photographer Sam Taylor-Wood features some of Hollywood’s most sought after leading men – Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Daniel Craig, etc – in tears. According to Taylor-Wood, the idea’s pretty simple: “It’s about the idea of taking these big, masculine men and showing a different side.” Yay, straightforward, unpretentious art.

I’m a crier myself, so I say more power to Taylor-Wood and her subjects. And special kudos to Jude Law, who went above and beyond by not just crying, but doing so in a corner in the fetal position.

FINALLY, BRAD AND ANGIE GET THEIR DUE “The bidding for the Brangelina twins pics has reached a whopping $15 million — and will probably go a lot higher. Our magazine spies tell us only PEOPLE and OK! are left standing in the bidding war. One spy says the pics are so valuable they would ‘print blank pages’ the rest of year to get them.”

Clearly, the line for the slide was long. But it looks like it was damn well worth the wait.

As they so rarely do when covering music, The New York Times gets it right today with a story about Sony BMG’s new plans for their photo archive.

Apparently, Sony has discovered that all the great pictures they’ve just been storing in their photo collection – like this one of Johnny Cash – can be used to make money while the recording industry faces a tremendous recession.

The article heralds true musicians, ingenuity and art. Finally, Times. Now, do it again.

Odd Choices

brandycloseup

Someone here has gathered a wide collection of photographer Martin Schoeller’s famous closeup portraits of celebrities. Bunched together, it’s easier for one to see what a bad idea they all are. If nothing else, the pictures proclaim, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, especially if the beholder is several feet away.”

Art?

domcam

Lost hobbit Dominic Monaghan is exhibiting some of his photography at a gallery in West Hollywood. Do stop by if you’re in the area for a glimpse at the pictures, which range from blurry photos of buildings to blurry photos of celebrities to computer-manipulated photos of the sky. And all taken with a point-n-shoot. It’s what you would take pictures of if you were drunk and famous.

Conclusion: Once you’re a celebrity, that’s your career. Feel free to vacillate between callings at will; nobody will have the balls to tell you you’re bad.

The photos, in all their fuzzy glory, after the jump.

The Uses of People

Legendary photographer Bert Stern, perhaps most famous for shooting a soon-to-be-dead Marilyn Monroe in 1962 for a collection he titled The Last Sitting, has called on Lindsay Lohan to recreate his depressing but iconic masterwork. The outcome is nothing special and the comparison is flimsy, BUT: Lohan shows her boobs!

After the jump, some NSFW excerpts.

Celebrity Portraits Worth Seeing

vanchar

Vanity Fair is this month running yet another celebrity photo shoot and, guess what? For once, it’s cool!

The concept was to recreate famous scenes from Alfred Hitchcock films and some of the resultant shots are beautiful. Finally, an idea good enough that it makes Annie Leibovitz and her dozen assistants seem interesting.

Falling Star

locandid

Photographs that professional dude Riley Giles took of ex-girlfriend Lindsay Lohan recently sold to a photo agency for a “low five-figure sum.” Because people who rate celebrities do so by checking into how much money pictures of them are worth to people, this is bad news for Lohan’s career. If hardly anyone is willing to part with good money to look at three or four pictures of the “troubled starlet,” absolutely nobody is going to pay millions to see thousands of pictures of her shown in quick succession (that’s how movies work!).
