But You Say He's Just a Friend

It's a well known fact that George Clooney throws European arugula fetes for Barack Obama that cost $10,000 to get into. Perhaps it's that sort of thing that led to rumors that the two men are drinking buddies who text message each other about Middle Eastern policy and "body language."

Were that true, it might understandably turn off voters who can't relate to being so rich that the world's most important people are just a phone call away, but Clooney swears it's not, and he's putting his money where his protestation is:

…Clooney just issued this statement through his publicist denying all the claims: "I have never texted or emailed Senator Obama. And I'll offer a million dollars to anyone who could prove otherwise. In fact, I've only talked to the Senator once in the last year and a half….on the phone. I've spent more time with Senator McCain (he did my TV show) then [sic] I have with Senator Obama. I would hope that my friend John McCain would join me in condemning this kind of politics. Although I support Senator Obama, I would never be dumb enough to offer policy advice to either candidate. They seem to be doing fine without me."

So that settles that, because actors and politicians and their publicists never lie. Now: George Clooney has a TV show?

And then George Clooney asked rhetorically,

"If I were someone like, oh I don't know, Scarlett Johansson, would everyone be making a big deal out of a few text messages? HHMMM?! Oh, wait, never mind."

He might be referring to K Street the show about lobbyist in DC. Clooney was one of the executive producers

Hey Cord, what is "Middle Easter" policy? Is that like the time between lent and Easter?

And since I'm picking on grammatical errors, the quote uses "then" when it should be using "than" which I know is not your fault, just drives me nuts that people don't know the difference between "then" and "than". Okay, I'm hopping off my soapbox now.

Who cares what Clooney does or his political views? He's just a grade B actor who reminds people of Cary Grant. THAT is his claim to fame.
Also, he's just a player and that, to me, is a turn-off.

sounds like Clooney doesn't want people to care about his political views.

Rumour Has It:

Cord wrote "Middle Eastern" not "Easter," and is perfectly acceptable. And as far as "then" versus "than," that is what the [sic] is for. Duh.

Don't slam the door on your glass house.

sar - he had just returned from being out in the desert in Darfur when the photo was taken, so it's probably sunburn… also, Mr. John "I'm not Hollywood, he is" McCain also appeared on the American Cinematheque tribute to GC a few years back, in addition to appearing on K Street. He really likes to be seen with celebrities, I guess…

Oh NO STM! Now you too are going to soon be hounded by the press.

Damn text messaging. And damn these huge thumbs I have that make texting next to impossible for me.

I just ONCE want the press to hound ME for my statement because of my connections to Obama via text messages.

Always the bridesmaid, never the bride.
