Unforgivable

nataliecole

Natalie Cole, the jazzy daughter of famous crooner Nat King Cole, is such a hater!

Cole says she was "disappointed" that notoriously troubled singer Amy Winehouse was awarded with five Grammys at Sunday's ceremony, adding, "I don't think bad behavior should be rewarded…"

Anticipate a windfall, charities of LA! As Nat King Cole carried on many well-publicized affairs throughout his marriage, we expect the morally outraged Natalie will soon be getting rid of all of her cheating father's dirty, dirty money. Otherwise, she's a hypocrite who shouldn't talk anymore.

I really think these awards shows are bullshit but…Amy's album was/is genious and I dont recall any of her awards being for Most Prolific Drug Addict and Anorexic. Sheesh. Everything is such a bummer in entertainment news these days.

Man, you should join the Moral Olympics-your ability to make tremendous leaps of moral equivalency is awe-inspiring.
Nat King Cole was a womanizer; he had extramarital affairs. His sins were against his wife, and were their private business.
Amy Winehouse is a self-destructive drug abuser and wife-beater-enabler whose greatest hit is about her refusal to do anything about her addictive behaviors-a celebration, if you will, of drug addiction.
How you can possibly get your shit hot over the DAUGHTER of a man who had romantic affairs speaking out against a woman who stands as a paragon of everything that young people should NOT do with their lives, because she believes that making heroes of such people is wrong, just leaves me breathless.
You are the Pat Robertson of gossip.

jbonz, because she's ridiculous. I'm not a fan of Amy but you could also say her sins are against herself and personal. Or flip it and say you shouldn't be holding up a womanizer as a hero. Think of all the other artists who received awards and were also self destructive addicts. Why isn't she whining about any of them getting one? It's silly.

    @jbonz

You're kidding yourself if you think the difference in publicity between Nat and Amy isn't due in large part to time.

Now, because you find adultery less offensive than drug abuse you feel Cole's admonishment of "bad behavior" is reasonable? That's odd to me, but that also perfectly depicts the problem with moralism: too subjective. If a person is going to call a strange junkie "bad," they had better be prepared to call their unfaithful father "bad" AND say they're disappointed that he was awarded Grammys while being so cruel to his family.

I was just pleased that Amy wasn't slurring her words or falling over on stage. She's got too much talent to piss her life awy.

I thought is was cheesy for her to work her incarcerated Blake into both songs but if she wrote it, I guess it's her perogative to change it.

Cord has a good point about the "generation gap" and the sins of the father vs. those of this generation. Go back even further and you have great artists like Parker and Coltrane who battled their own demons. I can't imagine what's going to pass as normal behavior for musicians (even society as a whole) in another 30 years.

Great artists have always had some monkey on their backs, but not only does time erase (or at least make dim) those battles, but the personal lives of stars were more, well, personal.

Billie Holiday was an addict, Bing Crosby was a hateful abuser, Nat Cole was a womanizer, the list goes on and on.

Cord, I agree with your point that "they had better be prepared to call their unfaithful father “bad” AND say they’re disappointed that he was awarded Grammys while being so cruel to his family," but would add that she had better be willing to say that she's willing to give up the three Grammy awards she won while using (she's admitted to using LSD, heroin and crack).

Instead I will focus on jbonz assertion that Amy is a wife-beater-enabeler. That's a joke right? Because if not, there is like one way that could be construed as not disgustingly offensive. And somehow I feel like jbonz didn't mean it that way.

Behavior and musical contribution have nothing to do with one another. Look at R Kelley, Nat King Cole, Motley Crue, The Doors, Kanye West…all had deplorable/destructive behavior, but their music was still awarded because it was good.

I'm not defending Amy's problems, but the award was for her music, not her lifestyle. The two are inherently connected, but we didn't give her a ribbon for Excellence in Crack Pipery, so it's all relative.

Haha, here we go. According to Wikipedia (I know, I know): She admitted to using LSD, heroin and crack cocaine, and said she began recreational drug use while attending the University of Massachusetts at Amherst (we have to assume this was sometime in the late 60's). Cole continued to spiral out of control - including one incident where she refused to evacuate a burning building, and another where her young son Robert nearly drowned in the family swimming pool while she and her first husband, the late Reverend Marvin Yancy, were on a drug binge. She did eventually enter rehab in 1983.

By my count, that's 3 Grammys and 2 American Music Awards she needs to give back.
