We're Still Not Voting For You

This melts our cold heart just a teensy weensy bit: David Archuleta, the boy wonder who has all but been crowned the winner of American Idol, is suffering from a case of Dina Lohan: He has a stage dad.

The singer may be feeling the pressure from his 'stage father' Jeff Archuleta, who reportedly yelled at David during a recording session Monday. Sources say Dad wasn't happy with his son's singing — and even brought him to tears.

Rumor also has it that Jeff was banned from the set of Star Search when David, at the ripe age of 12, competed on the show. Supposedly Jeff harassed a girl who was competing against precious David.

Our heart goes out to the kid, but we totally called this. We're torn: Do we resent him for the mess his parents have made of his life or do we use that as an excuse to cheer him on?

… We're sticking with the dreads.

Was glad Dread-head was safe last night and happy they did it the 1st 10 minutes of the show. I didn't bother watching the next 45 minutes of filler and tuned back in just in time to see the stripper get the boot.

I still think the blonde chick deserved to go and should have been killed in the face for ruining 8 Days a week.

    Agreed SM.

She sucked ballz. The stripper was shitty the other night but he's performed well in the past.

Back on topic. Was there ever any doubt that this kid had a stage parent or ten? He's been groomed to do this crap. He's flawless to an annoying level but you can't help but love him since he's so cute and young.

That shit takes years of practice and berating from you elders.

    Good times.

Good to know McDreamy Dreads is safe from the Idol Ax. Seriously though, why was Kristy Lee Cook not given das boot? That was the worst performance I have ever seen. It made me cringe.
But back to Mr. Archuletta…he has annoyed me since day one. I think it's his "aww shucks" attitude and the fact that I could probably stuff him in my shoe if he ever needed to hide. But the fact that he's got one of those a-hole parents who pushes them way too hard makes my cold black heart go out to him. Just a little bit though…

I do feel bad for the Archuleta kid. Nothing worse than being forced to live out your parents' dreams.

Now excuse me while I finish completing my daughter's application to Notre Dame.

I love Dreamy Dreads. When Simon was all "That was very college student singing at midnight and blah blah blah." Yeah, and then the panties start dropping. That's totally his thing.

I tried out for this season of Idol. I'm pissed now because KLC sucks and I'm awesome. I'm a way better singer then she is. Stupid nerves and sining Janis even though I knew better.

I am a massive David Archuleta fan! I have been ever since I YouTubed him. He puts so much emotion into his songs, it just cuts me to the quick when I hear him sing. I love this kid!

Plus, he's as nice, unpretentious, and CUTE as you could ever find. Watch MTV's 3-part video clip–David Archuleta Hometown Hero–if you don't believe me.

YouTube him. His Star Search stuff is not really my style, but the songs he does at ages 13-16 (while wrestling with vocal paralysis) is just incredible!! If you HATE Christmas music, listen to him sing and you'll turn 180 degrees. It's jaw dropping it's so good, especially when you remember his age! His "Angels" and "I'll Be" are both great, too. He's like 14-15 years old when singing them.

Kristy Lee Cook should definitely have gone, though I won't miss Hernandez. Jason Castro is okay. I don't hate him, but he doesn't hold a candle to David Archuleta and 90% of America knows it! Paula is right. David will be a Superstar.

I don't buy CDs. I typically only listen to classical music and talk radio. David's got me interested in popular music again. I'll buy everything he ever puts out.

I guess JP doesn't know his *ss from a hole in the ground, as my dear old dad used to say.

If you look at his interviews on youtube, he just really loves music, and doesn't really care about fame. He just wants to make people happy and express himself with the gift he has. Nothing wrong with that. He is sweet and sincere, not the least bit cocky. Having good stage presence, and a nervous habit (which is all the tongue thing is) does not make someone cocky.

I tend to ignore the gossip. Stage parenting is just a fact of the business. I hope for David's sake that none of this it true, but nevertheless I am a fan. I have seen a number of interviews with David and he doesn't strike me as a person forced into the business. He IS geniune,he IS a child, he Is an amazing vocalist, and he DOES have game. The only thing(or rather the common thread) that people tend to really be annoyed at is that they have been won over by the voice of a child in a competition and business that expects their 17 year olds to behave like flippin' 30 year olds. Let him be goofy, let him giggle, let him be silly in his interviews, let him enjoy his life and what he is doing with it. Enjoy his voice and let him be a child for a few more years. Mind your own business and just enjoy the music. Enough said…..

I just loved the doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground comment from Bookaholic! ( Bookaholic's Daddy used to say it.)

(Well, granted, that was a mean thing to say to commenter JP. And, if I was asked my opinion, I'd have to say,it was unnecessarily emotionally charged.)

HOWEVER, it reminded me of what my neighbor while I was growing up used to say: You can't find your ass with a handfull of tacks!!

The neighbor NEVER said that to me. I even as a young "elementery school child queencrone" I would have duly torn his balls off.

But I did laugh my ass off!! The mental picture is priceless!!

You all be nice, now. I have to drink my beer.

Get over it. You are so off!

David's musicality and rare interpretation of the music by his voice is appealing to all age groups. He has a new sound and a new interpretation of music. His music invites you in, to enjoy & relax–a natural high, awash in endorphins.

The entertainment media doesn’t know what to do with him b/c it isn’t cool to like a nice, kind, humble kid so they take the easy way out and lampoon and bash him at every juncture. AI format has not allowed him to select nor sing the songs that show his musicality to its maximum except early on. When he leaves AI and gets to control of his song selections and arrangement, all will be forgotten by the entertainment media as to his age. We will see some rapid turnabouts.

Oh, btw, I am a music/communications major at a university. A lot of my friends in the collegial music world (those 20+ year olds you are talking about) are looking forward to David A's first album. So open your ears, scrub the age bias from your brain, if you don't like his genre, that's cool, but his talent is something that we haven't seen before. He is changing soul/R&B music - just wait and see!
