Pinky Swears He Won't Say "Nigger" Anymore

niggerrandall

Dog the Bounty Hunter, the mulleted, ex-con-cum-manhunter naïve people were shocked to discover was a little racist, is getting back his reality show.

A&E, the network that had aired the exploits of Dog as he pursued of some of Hawaii’s hardest criminals, yanked the program in November of last year when a tape surfaced of the hunter casually using the word “nigger” while speaking with one of his sons.

Though probably more ashamed of being caught than being bigoted, Dog took his time away from television to grovel at the feet of blacks and black organizations around the country, which apparently is all anyone wanted from him: “…network execs were ‘very pleased’ with Dog’s attempt to make amends and his reaching out to members of the African American community.”

Wonderful! Now we can all get back to feeling fine about watching a poor, uneducated white man hunt and proselytize to poor, uneducated brown men.

This is the sort of thing that makes me mad. Dog says it and everyone is outraged, yet if Nas has it all over his album, people (including Cord) love it. I think that the word is offensive no matter how you “intend” it to be.

We all know that no corportation would own up to something like that. What it comes down to is ratings and only ratings. Being morally reprehensible is one thing - losing ratings is quite another. I don’t really know what should happen to him. I know that there are a lot of people who I find atrocious and offending but are still allowed on television.

I think being offended by a word is ridiculous.
There are far more offensive things happening in the world. I think because these words are hardly spoke that when they are said people cringe. Follow me with this, I’m going somewhere. People say “bitch” “faggot” and “cunt” (okay that last one is just me) on a regular basis and there isn’t nearly as much outrage as when “nigger” is spoken. Much like “nigga” is often used loosely, my friends call each other “bitch,” “hooker,” “slut” loosely, as a term of endearment. It doesn’t make it okay, but its accepted.
Now I know some people will say “its not the same” well, how is it different? What’s the difference between “nigger” and “faggot” or “bitch” ??

I’m a big fan of A&E. They bring me deplorable addicted train wrecks on Intervention amuse me on a weekly basis.

I’m more offended by Dog and his son’s butchering of the English language by saying “Brah.”

Have I crossed the line yet?

Blah, I know! A word should not only be allowed to be spoken by people certain of a certain skin color. It encourages segregation. But, obviously, I am not offended when a black person uses the word to refer to other black people. I still think it is ignorant and backwards, but they are not trying to be hateful. When Nas says he wants to take the meaning out of the word “nigger”… does he mean I can use it to refer to black people to? No, that would make me morally reprehensible because I’m not black.
PS
I don’t mind that he christened his album “Nigger,” it’s the use of the word in his lyrics that is crass.

Mae, there is a significant difference between calling someone a “cunt” and a “nigger.” Using the word “cunt” is not sexist. People refer to men they disapprove of as “dicks.” Sexual organs are just funny out of a sexual context. It’s the same as calling someone an “asshole.”
Calling a woman a “bitch” is also not sexist if they are immoral or unpleasant. Using “bitch” as a synonym for the word “woman” is sexist because it is disresfectful to the entire gender, regardless of the content of their character.
Calling someone a “slut” or a “hooker” is, again, not sexist. People who use these words are implying they are morally opposed to promiscuity, not that they believe women in general are inferiors.
Using the word “faggot” is just as bad as using the word “nigger.” Unfortunately, people are less aware of the ludicrousness of homophobia than they are of the irrationality of racism.
“Nigger” expresses racial hatred and bigotry. Many of the other curse words you mentioned simply express disdain for certain type of behavior. Martin Luther King didn’t tell us not to judge, he told us to judge based on the content of someone’s character.

You know what I find offensive? That a group of people are lumped into one catagory just because of the colour of their skin. IE: “African American community” Not all blacks come from Africa. Cuban, South American, Dominican, Jamacain, etc. And an article I just read the other day…

“The original ancestors of all humans probably lived in Africa, but from the end of the Ice Ages 12,000 years ago up until the Age of Discovery beginning in the 15th century, Europeans and sub-Saharan Africans were relatively isolated from each other. During these millennia, some separate genetic markers emerged on each continent. So, geneticists don’t have much trouble distinguishing African and European ancestors.

Kittles’ Y-chromosome test can raise an issue that might be sensitive to some customers wanting to get more in touch with their African paternal ancestors. The test may uncover white forefathers instead. This can be disconcerting because one of them may have owned a black female ancestor.

How common is it? According to Shriver, of the several thousand people he studied who identify as African-Americans, about 90 percent are at least half black genealogically (and thus genetically). On average, about 82-83 percent of the genes found in African-Americans are indeed from Africa. Still, the odds that a Y-chromosome test will find a forefather from Europe are significant. Kittles noted that about 30 percent of African-Americans’ Y-chromosomes originated in Europe. “

No. 32 ilnazhad says:

Firstly, I pointed out that the reason we chose sexual organs as words to use to refer to contemptible people is because they are comical and disgusting out of a sexual context (where they are more than welcome). The word “cunt” was not chosen because it is something exclusive to women and that something that represents women represents inferiority. It was chosen because sex is yucky and humorus when we are not aroused or speaking of anatomy. It’s balanced. We call jerks “dickheads.” And, no, using the word “cunt” is not really that funny because it is trite.
Also, I said that people should use disparaging terms on people who are deserving of them. (I don’t believe I did anything to offend you.) But there is nothing wrong with calling deserving people names with a negative connatation. To use an extreme example, you don’t need to be like “Hitler wasn’t quite morally upright.”
And, when taking part in an argument, you should stay away from making it personal. It even seems like you see this as some kind of rivalry. That’s not just rude, but it’s also a sign that your points are weak.

No. 39 ilnazhad says:

No, I meant that cunt is exclusive to women in the sense that only women have vaginas. I didn’t mean the word is only allowed to by women. I was trying to explain to you that it was not chosen because it represents women, it was chosen because it is a sexual organ. Just like “dick” was chosen because it is a sexual organ.
Trust me, I was not hurt by your remark at all. But there is no denying that “So you wouldn’t mind if I started referring to you as “cunt” then?” is making things personal. You are trying to evoke a response by asking me (”you”) how I would feel if attacked, which means you are unable to think of an argument where rational and emotion coexist. And, as it turns out, when someone calls me a cunt for no reason, I tend to think they are immature.
