Nice Try

This short clip, courtesy of FOX News, makes us laugh hysterically. The "fair and balanced" network interviewed a Pennsylvania diner full of people to see who was voting for Obama and who was voting for McCain in the upcoming presidential election. After a show of hands, the reporter declared it "a split." Although it totally wasn't. At all.

What about the guy who raised his hand twice? Who is he voting for?

Maybe he's just senile. He looks about McCain's age.

My 7 year old even said (observed, "That isn't half!" and that "He did not learn how to count in school very well." I think FOX is like Palin; just let FOX be FOX and don't report anything complicated (or true).

This is so awesome I had to watch it twice! My favorite moment is the guy who accidentally raises his hand for McCain and his wife reaches over to grab his hand and push it down. Ha! Then she raises BOTH her hands for Obama. Awesome.

"Its Split" (total lie)
"Maybe a little more towards Obama" (closer to the truth)
"Proving how much Pennsylvania is a battleground state" (Huh??? Since when did 10 people in a diner constitute 'fair' and 'balanced' reporting?!)

Sorry to burst your bubble but where I live in PA they are not voting for Obama. We will see Nov 4th.
Why hate on Fox? So what if they lean right. CNN leans left. The right can't have one channel. Oh here comes Katie Curic.. Doom and gloom…

Thanks Alice, agreed. Um I live here, I don't have to "hate" on Fox to report the facts, unlike Fox producers/reporters who continually misstate information on a regular basis.

It's going to be really interesting here on Thursday morning. Obama's having a rally on the main plaza downtown at 9:30. No tickets are required — they'll let people start congregating at 7:30.

When he stopped here in May, lines began forming at the arena early that morning. I got in line three hours before the event and got in just before they stopped admitting people inside. The arena was packed to capacity (about 12,000), with a couple thousand more outside listening on loudspeakers.

By contrast, McCain's rally two weeks ago was by ticket only and drew 3,500.

I'm hoping to be there early, but I have a feeling it's going to be very, very crowded.

And the reason I'm bringing this up is that this part of Michigan is SO Republican that George W. Bush was invited to dinner at Dick DeVos (son of the founder of Amway) tonight for a fundraiser. Bush did not attend, however, as the economic crisis continues.

But I have to say that there are a lot of Obama signs popping up in areas that had a lot of Bush signs four years ago.

I'm with ya' Janice. I hope what we're all seeing is accurate. It's hard to imagine people could be as dumb as those who voted for Bush. Especially after so many bad things have happened. The McCain and Palin ticket is scary.

I love Couric's looking off with disdain at the 0:35 mark. As much as I enjoy this perpetual humiliation Palin keeps subjecting herself to, this charade has simply gone on long enough.

At least Fox puts out info about both candidates. Where is CNN's story about the moderator for Thursday's VP debate putting out a pro-Obama book?

Posted: Oct 1, 2008 at 9:58 am
No. 25 say what? says:

yeah, and the info they put out is LIES, as evidenced in this clip.

after seeing this clip, how can anyone take them seriously as a "news" network?

Posted: Oct 1, 2008 at 10:03 am
No. 26 Chelsea says:

The candidates choose the moderator, and they could have researched Ifill to find out that she was writing a book about African Americans in politics. (That's a terribly loose description of her book, but look it up if you want to learn more, you know?) She was also the moderator of the 2004 debate and I think Cheney got by unscathed. This debate isn't even about Obama, it's Biden-Palin. So stop looking for excuses as to why Palin will fail.

No. 27 say what? says:

to add, have you read the book? exactly how "pro-obama" is it?

from what I've read, (not the book, but about the book) it's not pro-obama in the sense that she's pushing him for pres.

the book is about "Obama and other black politicians who have benefited from the civil rights struggle", as in, how the civil rights movement paved the way for black politicians to rise to new levels.

I don't necessarily see how this is a conflict of interest but perhaps, to allay any semblance of impropriety, she could be replaced.

My point is that they are putting the information out there. If she had written a book about how old white guys benefit from whatever, the left would be up in arms and it would be reported on CNN. Surely you have to admit that some will think that she is impartial because of the book. I'm not saying that she will be. I'm sure she will do a great job.

Posted: Oct 1, 2008 at 10:22 am
No. 30 Chelsea says:

It's possible people will think she can't be impartial. The Repubs were getting on her for her coverage of the RNC because 'she made a face'. No joke. Apparently you can't be tired.

Anyway, none of it takes away from the fact that both sides have to agree upon a moderator and McCain's people saw no problem with her.

No. 31 say what? says:

they're putting the info out there because as biased as they are, THEY see a potential conflict of interest.

perhaps no one else is reporting it because a book on how the civil rights movement helped black politicians advance is not seen as "pro-Obama". Sounds more like a history book to me. Yes, I think that some will think she can't be impartial, but I also think the only people who think this are people who are already biased against him for whatever reason.

again, I haven't read the book. have you?

(oh, and FYI, "old white guys" have benefited PLENTY in this country and I, for one, would not think someone was being pro "old white guy" for writing a book about HOW they benefited over the years.)

Parker we're a conglomerate. We conglomerate here because it's like the local "liberal" coffee shop of the internets. We've never even pretended to be balanced.
And guess what the big difference is? This site doesn't claim to REPORT the news. It's only objective is to throw topics out there for us to discuss. I find it very telling that you would hold a gossip/current events blog to the same standards you hold a major national news media outlet whose simple job is reporting the news as it happens.
