I reallyreallyreally find that word offensive - I'm all for honest and open debate, but MAN, I agree with STM - using that word with such frequency to refer to Caribou Barbie really does nothing to improve the discourse.
I'm not trying to be rude, but why, as a woman, would you use that word to demean another woman? There are so many other words that could be used to define her.
I need to do myself that favor and get off this thread, and fast.
How can you be offended by a word? It's just a word. Hell, I'm offended by actual poverty, child abuse, murder, rape and war. The words themselves are powerless.
yeah, but there's making fun, and then there's that word, which i just find offensive when used to describe and demean or make fun of women.
i mean, you're obviously welcome to say whatever you want, but i know that you and i have the same position on these issues, and i just don't understand your wanton use of that word.
calling her a bitch or a cunt is just not really helpful. i know there are people who actually are undecided who read this board. let's try to convince them to come to our side.
it's no different than if if a mccain supporter called obama a nigger. it's really no different (in my mind).
words are not powerless. if words were powerless, why would anyone ever talk?
that's sort of a silly position.
i'm offended by the things you mentioned as well. one can be offended at more than one thing at once.
like i said, you're free to do what you want. but you might want to think of the consequences. if i were an undecided voter, and i saw what you said, it would not make me want to listen to anything meaningful that you had to say, and i've read your comments on this board for weeks– you do have good meaningful things to say.
Cait, honestly, I have not been posting much this week. I made one other comment today on the article about Palin's winking. I made two or three yesterday. I've been doing other things this week.
If words are powerless, racist words wouldn't be controversial and hurtful.
It words are powerless, our freedom of speech wouldn't end at bellowing "FIRE!" in a crowded theater (i.e., bringing harm to others).
I just find it to be a very demeaning word. It's okay to hate on Palin, but I don't see you referencing McCain's foreskin (or lack thereof) - which kind of intensifies the effect.
mutterhals, my mans and them thinks the same thing. he says the more you take a offense at a word, the more you give that word power.
i just disagree. and to the extent that there are other people, like me and cait, who disagree, and to the extent that any of those people happen to be coming to mollygood looking for the latest britney news and stumble upon one of the many political threads in this crucial time in the election, i would hate for us to be saying things that would offend such people to the point where they were unwilling to listen to the MEANINGFUL things that we say here.
Word are harmless, it's the intention behind the words that count. If you honestly believe my intention in using that word was to demean all women, so be it.
I'd be more than happy to discuss McCain's most likely disease ridden cock (after all, he's admitted to fucking hookers). But this was a thread about Palin, not McCain.

and where exactly did i say i believed it was your intention to demean ALL women?
no, i believe it was your intention to use that word to demean sarah palin.
words are tangible. intent is not tangible. you're a screen name on a computer. how in xenu's name is a person supposed to know what your intent is? all they can do is glean your intent by your words.
it's patently clear that you are unwilling to see any other side, so cunt away.
is there anyone who can debate a point without putting words in my mouth?
For the record, I endorse the use of the word cunt for Sarah Palin not because she's a woman and she clearly has one, or else how could she have spit all those kids out, but because it is the absolutely most disgusting word I can think of and the only one that comes close to describing how much I truly abhor her existence.
I am going to put my two cents in because um…I am bored and don't feel like working. While cunt is a derogatory word towards women in general and is mildly offensive. I do not believe it is anyones place to correct or chastise someone for using any word, expecially on a gossip blog. Do you really think your comments are swaying undecided voters?
I think the point is that when there are some truly terrible things to point out about Palin, calling her names and insulting her does no good (except making you feel better, which in itself is not to be underestimated) in the political discourse.
Alice isn't campaiging for Obama, she can say whatever she wants. It's not her responsibility to sway voters. That is her opinion, and she is entitled (as are you and everyone else who was offended). I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but it seems like she is getting a lot of guff over a word.
I feel like I need to defend stm because I think she is no longer here, so…
I don't think she said that any of us are swaying undecided voters (although I wouldn't be surprised at how some people are making their decisions). She said that she hoped we could avoid offending people to the point "they were unwilling to listen to the MEANINGFUL things that we say here."
you can hope that, but the fact is you and i both know there are. for whatever that means in this whole debate. but thats just a sad reality that goes to show how uninformed and lazy some americans are.
personally im offended by the word and i have a very low opinion of people who use it, but they are welcome to use it in any manner they seem fit just as im entitled not to like it. different strokes for different folks.
cait's point, if i may speak for her, is that freedom of speech is not absolute. silent noodles brought up freedom of speech. cait was responding… nowhere did she say that anyone here had infringed on any one else's rights.
again, please stop putting words in people's mouths to make yourself seem more intelligent.
BBB, I sure hope we had free speech after Gustav. I was cursing up a blue streak about someone having stolen my power meter. Christ on a crouton, was I pissed.
For the record, can I get a list of other words that are not acceptable? Give me a list that I can keep on my desktop. That way, whenever I post, I can make sure not to use any unpleasant, unbecoming and frankly nasty words.
Just give me a list and I'll make sure I never, ever upset anyone's delicate sensibilites.
Now, so say some bigot comes all up in here saying they don't use the word "nigger", they instead say "Canadian." I know some assholes like this. That is JUST as offensive because of the intent behind it. See, it's not the word! "Canadian" the word isn't offensive, but used in that way, totally IS.
In all honesty, there are times I want to call people bad names, yet I refrain. In fact, I refrained today on another thread. Why? Because I feel it takes away from the validity of any point you are trying to make. Someone may have a very good point to make, but if I see they have thrown some nasty names into their argument, I automatically "loose" interest. And that's just my $.02s.
It's absolutely stunning that this thread has gone this far. It's even more stunning that we as a nation are taking offence over the wrong fucking things.
Cunt cuntitty cunt cunt cunt!
It's a fun word, it's a descriptive word. It was once used in streetnames for fucks sake. Have we really regressed beyond medieval times that we tut-tut over a fucking word?
Cait, take the fucking stick outta your ass. You do not have the right to not be offended, particularly on a goddam gossip site.
Cait- where the hell did you come from? All my arguement is that any person can say anything even if it is stupid. I never said anyone is censoring anyone.
Cord, didn't someone call you out for calling TNR porno for the right? Here's a little nugget from their blog that you can use as backup for that term:
A very wise TV executive once told me that the key to TV is projecting through the screen. It’s one of the keys to the success of, say, a Bill O’Reilly, who comes through the screen and grabs you by the throat. Palin too projects through the screen like crazy. I’m sure I’m not the only male in America who, when Palin dropped her first wink, sat up a little straighter on the couch and said, “Hey, I think she just winked at me.” And her smile. By the end, when she clearly knew she was doing well, it was so sparkling it was almost mesmerizing. It sent little starbursts through the screen and ricocheting around the living rooms of America. This is a quality that can’t be learned; it’s either something you have or you don’t, and man, she’s got it.
BBB says "Because I feel it takes away from the validity of any point you are trying to make."
I totally agree. I have been coming here a lot more since the increase in political content and a lot of you seem to be very intelligent and I enjoy the debate. But when you guys get into the name calling (especially that word), it makes me think that you really aren't that smart and I lose respect for the writer.
yes, silent noodles, it is the first amendment. the FA essentially prohibits a state from restricting protected speech. That protected speech includes racist blather spouted off by KKK assholes. As long as it doesn't rise to the level of inciting violence. If you want a crash course in First Amendment law, I suggest you read the Supreme Court's ruling in Skokie.
Let me say this again: I am not a state. I am not a government. At least not yet.
And if you will read my original point, it was less a "these words hurt my delicate sensibilities" and more a "why would you use such words if you're trying to make a meaningful point?"
I have political discussions with conservative people. I read conservative blogs. If those conservative people starting calling obama a nigger, you can be damned sure I would discount everything else they had to say.
not everyone has the luxury of trolling the internets endlessly for news.
and if someone happens to be coming here for gossip news, and that someone happens to stumble upon one of these threads, i don't see what your problem is with my point that certain rhetoric might turn these people off.
I personally don't think ANY word is truly bad (in a philosophical sense), but I can understand people being offended by some of them, espcially the n word. Personally, I would pop a cap in someone's ass if they called me "cunt" to my face! Yeah, um, that wouldn't be good.
I'm with bbb on the blinking/winking: her bangs were clearly attached to the eyelashes on her left eye. It was incredibly annoying to watch her in the close ups because I couldn't do anything but stare at her bangs flicking around with every blink.
Also, her mic wire was sticking up abover her shoulder, and I thought it, hilariously, could be mistaken for a wire to an earpiece.
I don't think you are, stm. It seems like a last resort because you have nothing else to say to fling that word. You have to use fingerprint matching, retina scanning, dual key wielding passcodes to unlock that shit.
stopthemadness: Why NOT use "such words"? Words are words, they all convey a meaning.
Sarah Palin is a cunt. Does calling her a pussy really make a difference? How about hoo-ha? Lady parts?
The intention is still the same, so why sugar coat it? We're all adults? Aren't we? And if we aren't, who the fuck cares? I swore more as a kid than I do now!
Also, I'm not concerned about anyone's perception of me because of the words I use. If you can't overlook the obscentities and see the point of what I'm trying to say, well then to hell with you. I look down on people who adhere to these strict codes of conduct more than people who use 'swears'.
1. The word is offensive to some
2. There are consequences for what we say
3. You can't please everyone
Beyond that, if I am undestanding you correctly, you think my launguage might turn off people who are coming to this site for stimulating discourse. That falls in the the catagory of consequence. I can live with that.
Mutterhals, excellent point. No one could look past the word cunt to see that what I was talking about. People, she wants to expand the powe of the vice presidency. That's fucking scary.
*I* think the EXACT OPPOSITE. I think she has the ability to annoy to an epic level. I think her voice is like nails on a chalkboard and her persona and visage makes me CRINGE. I could barely stand to look at her, but I had to in order to watch the debates and be informed. I think she is HORRIBLE on television. Sle-righteous, tartly and smug. Bad, bad, bad!!!!! Bad!
Mutterhals, excellent point. No one could look past the word cunt to see that what I was talking about. People, she wants to expand the powe of the vice presidency. That's fucking scary.
STM, your point was that your too uptight to look past one word that offends you? Ok. Didn't realise that was your point.
I realise that isn't what you mean, but that is certainly one was to read it. Can't see the forest for the trees. Thinking in that way has to be awfully limiting.
STM - I was unaware Alice was trying to make a meaningful point. I guess I really have no more to say one the subject, your rebuttal was nicely written. Well played STM, well played.
"And if you will read my original point, it was less a "these words hurt my delicate sensibilities" and more a "why would you use such words if you're trying to make a meaningful point?""
Good lord, those claiming to be so superior morally are acting more childish than us boors who dare to use the word 'cunt' on a gossip site. This isn't a contest, dear. We're having a discussion. I say you follow the word of our lord Jesus Fucking Christ and evolve.
STM, acutally it seems like you lose. You're going to miss out on a lot if you can't listen/read past any words that upsets you. That seems like a major loss.
Right, bbb? Although, in light of the evidence of her maybe-possibly tattoo-lipstick, she may just have some really funky ideas about hair and eyelash fraternization.
Ahem, while I know I shouldn't indulge, you actually were the first to launch an ad hominem attack (i.e. "enjoy your day, hags and crazy people.")Of course, I don't take offense.
As far as ths c-word, the only comment that pissed me off was when danny said for people to stop taking themselves so seriously.
While that's good advice much of the time, the reason the c-word is offensive is because for thousands of years, men have been telling women not to take their sense of equality and worth seriously. And this generation of women doesn't have it in them to back down when they're belittled, which I find commendable.
Sar, I'm also a member of this generation of women (for the record, I'm 30).
I honestly don't understand why the word cannot be used. Perhaps part of he reason I use it so freely is because of my years with a husband from working class London. The word is used the same way jerk, jackass, asshole etc are used. It's not woman specific.
Ugh, I don't know why I'm joining the fray. Fingers are moving. Without. Control.
I've said this before, and I'll say it again. The word "cunt" says nothing about the person to whom it is applied. It only gives away the character of the person using it. Calling Sarah Palin a "cunt" only conveys the message that you are ignorant, and you don't like her.
I'm not restricting anyone's right to say it, nor are my "delicate sensibilities" particularly offended.
So if you're okay with coming off ignorant and obscuring your message, cunt away.
Alice and mutterhals, just to clear things up, a few of us have taken kindly to calling each other hags. It's not really meant in the general sense here.
Alice- It's just that it leaves people with the impression that you are a stereotypical, angry liberal. You don't have to go there to have people understand that you don't agree with her politics. It's in bad form. Nobody thinks we're curing cancer here on MG, but we traditionally like to keep it klassy around here.
Janice, I respect that, but I disagree. There is a reason we have expletives. Sometimes no other word fits the bills. Sometimes some people are so beyond the pale that no other word will do.
Surely no one in this .. uh, let's call it a room, can say that they haven't used a off color word to describe some one that annoys them, bugs them, pisses them off, angers them etc.
If I'm the only person who uses this kind of language, it's news to me. If none of you have ever described a person you don't like in a very unflattering way … well, then I apologise. But for some reason I don't believe it's true.
Evil, I am angry liberal. But I've been on this site for a while now. Especially through all of the Palin posts. Many people have described her in very nasty way, it's just that no one has used the word cunt. For example, when there was a post about her aerial wolf hunting, some suggested she should be shot and skinned. Is calling her a cunt really much worse than that?
I'm getting cornfused by all the talk about what's a degrading word or what's a dirty word. I don't find swear words in the comments section of a blog offensive necessarily, especially when they aren't directed at another commentor personally. Hehm, I guess I'm saying this is a stupid argument to be worrying yourselves over, you dumb coochies.
Alice, come on. The ultimate insult is always the "Nazi level." I don't think anyone uses it to convey that someone is a devotee of the German leadership of the 1930s-1940s. They use it to up the ante and be especially insulting to the person they are labeling such.
Words are the meaning they're given. If enough people have assigned a horrifying meaning to c***, then it's a bad word. That's our only standard.
Since it's overwhelmingly considered an unacceptable word, it meets the standard. This is whether anyone else will cop to it or not. If it means nothing to you, and something to someone else - then you defer to the person to whom it holds value. It's common courtesy and there's nothing wrong with that, unless you feel that it compromises something else that you value.
Freedom is not for abuse - freedom is a way to trust adults to behave in a socially responsible way. If you feel that refraining, by choice, from the use of a word compromises your freedom of speech, you are misunderstanding the meaning of freedom.
Alice, "Perhaps part of he reason I use it so freely is because of my years with a husband from working class London. The word is used the same way jerk, jackass, asshole etc are used. It's not woman specific."
My boyfriend has an extremely foul mouth (and that's how I like him), and I've picked up a heaping tablespoon of new words from him. I have gotten comfortable with a lot of words as of late. But it doesn't seem right to continue my speech patterns outside of relationships where it is accepted. I still don't say a lot of those words in other contexts.
This was really fun to read. I love it.
It's obvious Mrs. Palin has bluffed and winked and eyelash-fluttered her way through life. And gotten away with it.
*sigh* I feel ill now.
Somewhere on the chart should be "be sure to mention that you want to expand the powers of the vice presidency, cause you totally deserve it".
Seriously, she said she wanted to expand the power of the veep. She's Cheney with a cunt .. or she's a cunt. I just don't know …
say it ain't so joe! dontcha know!
::wait for all the mccain trolls to arrive::
::rubs hands together expectantly::
AHEM, let me start:
1) Can any one tell me why it is Obama is qualified to run this country?
2) Sarah Palin has more executive experience than McCain, Obama, and Biden put together, dontcha know!
Ugh, I can't. I just can't. I think I'll do myself a favor and stay far far away from this thread today.
Alice, honestly, that word does nothing to elevate the debate. I don't know why you seem to take such relish in throwing it around.
It's obnoxious.
STM, I didn't realise that we were elevating debate. I thought we were making fun of Palin, no?
I reallyreallyreally find that word offensive - I'm all for honest and open debate, but MAN, I agree with STM - using that word with such frequency to refer to Caribou Barbie really does nothing to improve the discourse.
But that's just me.
I'm not trying to be rude, but why, as a woman, would you use that word to demean another woman? There are so many other words that could be used to define her.
I need to do myself that favor and get off this thread, and fast.
Ah, I see.
So in order to proper and redundantly make fun of Palin, you have to to repeated use that word in every thread on the topic.
Is that about the gist of it?
How can you be offended by a word? It's just a word. Hell, I'm offended by actual poverty, child abuse, murder, rape and war. The words themselves are powerless.
yeah, but there's making fun, and then there's that word, which i just find offensive when used to describe and demean or make fun of women.

Did I miss something? That's the first time I've used that word in a few weeks. I've barely posted this week.
I couldn't agree more, Alice. It's merely a word, it can't hurt you.
Did anybody notice she talked about "General McClellan", the Civil War general instead of the actual current general, Gen. David McKiernan??
So your evil twin has been posting it all this time? ;)
Somewhere in the flow chart, or better yet, on the palm of her hand, someone should have spelled out "Joe BIDEN" in sharpie marker.
It's not OBiden.
well that's where you and i disagree then.
words are not powerless. if words were powerless, why would anyone ever talk?
that's sort of a silly position.
i'm offended by the things you mentioned as well. one can be offended at more than one thing at once.

that's all i'm saying.
I still say they need to provide Twix Candy bars to Sarah Palin. Sometimes she needs a moment.
Cait, honestly, I have not been posting much this week. I made one other comment today on the article about Palin's winking. I made two or three yesterday. I've been doing other things this week.
I'm totally ok with calling Sarah Palin a "cunt". Cunt.

i could be wrong. it's happened before. once.
:)

wait, cait, i thought cord said we weren't allowed to "hate on" stuff anymore? :)
Sorry for the double.
But why should I have to defend the use of any word? I mean, you can be offended all you like, but you certainly shouldn't be considering telling people what they shouldn't and shouldn't say. That's not freedom.
I suppose it's just the self-righteous hypocrisy of it, Danny/Alice/Stoney, that bothers me so much.
How is is self-righteous hypocrisy?
and where exactly did i say i believed it was your intention to demean ALL women?
no, i believe it was your intention to use that word to demean sarah palin.

christ on a pogo stick.
enjoy your day, hags and crazy people.
McCain fucks hookers (besides his wife)?!?!?
"so cunt away"
Yippeee!!
LOL.
Cait and STM, you are equally the wind beneath my wings.
If a vitriol-spewing Republican (say, Eve) were posing epithets about Obama's race, would you point it out?
No matter how good the message is, the messenger can always drive people away from it.
This is not unlike those bible-thumping preachers who spew hatred on street corners and claim it's Christianity.
Yep, that's hypocrisy.
::eyeroll::
this really is not worth my time.
i'm sorry i brought it up. i'm not going back and forth with you people on this all day.
again, enjoy your day, hags and crazy people.
Excuse me, but I am not a hag.
So…you're a crazy people? ;)
i know you're not stoney.
i am.
cait is.
evil twin is.
and we are damn proud of it.

I wouldn't call her a cunt.
misinformed, self-congratulating, self-important and self-entitled idiot comes to mind, though.
HM, yeaux.
I don't consider it the same as a white person using the word nigger. I simply don't. We will have to agree to disagree.
Sometime, I use the word cunt to describe a man. Men can be cunts. I don't see it as gender specific. Bush is cunt, Cheney is a cunt, McCain is cunt.
Huh? I didn't know I had multiple personalities. *checks pill bottle*
Oh wait, I think I read that wrong. Commas, please!
LOL
I think the point is that when there are some truly terrible things to point out about Palin, calling her names and insulting her does no good (except making you feel better, which in itself is not to be underestimated) in the political discourse.

Silent noodles, I certainly hope that no one is getting there news and information from a gossip blog.
Alice- Exactly! so cunt away hooker.
so faggots and retards and niggers and cunts for everyone here on mollygood.
excellent.
i'll keep that in mind.
oh and pessimism. pessimism rocks… no one's listening to us, so let's just faggot and nigger and cunt until we are all drooling retards.
good idea.
Silent, I shall go on with my bad self.
Twat's that? Did you know vagina means scabbard(sword sheath) in Latin?
I feel like I need to defend stm because I think she is no longer here, so…
I don't think she said that any of us are swaying undecided voters (although I wouldn't be surprised at how some people are making their decisions). She said that she hoped we could avoid offending people to the point "they were unwilling to listen to the MEANINGFUL things that we say here."
(Which are plentiful.)
You forgot trunchbulls, STM.
STM- freedom of speech regardless of weather you agree or not.
um, freedom of speech relates to the STATE's regulation of speech. read the first amendment before you come at me with "freedom of speech."
i'm not a state.
i've applied, but they say i don't have enough citizens.
And the weather in here is fucked up today, that's for sure.
clarification: state and government regulation of speech.
Whether any of us agree or not, sure, everyone has the right to free speech to the point where it directly infringes upon another's rights.
Obviously, Alice can disparage anyone she likes from her lofty moral position.
And phenomenally, thank the lord Xenu, I get to comment on that, too!
you can hope that, but the fact is you and i both know there are. for whatever that means in this whole debate. but thats just a sad reality that goes to show how uninformed and lazy some americans are.
personally im offended by the word and i have a very low opinion of people who use it, but they are welcome to use it in any manner they seem fit just as im entitled not to like it. different strokes for different folks.
My ass is a little bigger, so they approved me as a township.
So even in a hurricane we can have freedom of speech? Even during monsoon season? Does El Nino affected weather count?
Cait, how has anyone here infringed on anyone elses rights?
trunchbulls?
man, do I feel ignorant. what's a trunchbull?
stoney-
my ass hasn't reached township status. but it is a shelf. holds up to three cans of beer.
Go back and read for content, Alice. I didn't say anyone had infringed upon another's - I was clarifying the idea of freedom of speech.
Clearly you can say whatever you like - as can I. You can critique Palin's vagina 'til you're blue in the face, and I can respond accordingly.
Hence the joy of freedom of speech!
Cheers all around!
@ Stoney #60.
darn you! there goes my Doritos all over my keyboard!
i just can't quit this damn thread:
cait's point, if i may speak for her, is that freedom of speech is not absolute. silent noodles brought up freedom of speech. cait was responding… nowhere did she say that anyone here had infringed on any one else's rights.
again, please stop putting words in people's mouths to make yourself seem more intelligent.
epic phail.
BBB, I sure hope we had free speech after Gustav. I was cursing up a blue streak about someone having stolen my power meter. Christ on a crouton, was I pissed.
To quote Huffington: "The home-spun homilies have to go," Martha Stewart told me. "And, oh my god, words do have ending consonants."
That is all.
PS, Biden is SEXAYY
For the record, can I get a list of other words that are not acceptable? Give me a list that I can keep on my desktop. That way, whenever I post, I can make sure not to use any unpleasant, unbecoming and frankly nasty words.
Just give me a list and I'll make sure I never, ever upset anyone's delicate sensibilites.
April, that is all I am trying to say. STM- So what exactly protects the rights of those arse hole KKK members when they rally?
Impressive, stm!
Now, so say some bigot comes all up in here saying they don't use the word "nigger", they instead say "Canadian." I know some assholes like this. That is JUST as offensive because of the intent behind it. See, it's not the word! "Canadian" the word isn't offensive, but used in that way, totally IS.
My ass was previously zoned for a parish, but through careful application of a low-fat diet, it's down to a mere neighborhood association.
silent noodles, did you really want to compare Alice with the KKK? Ouch.
Stoney, you are such a Canadian. Blech.
Loud Noodles, no one is trying to censor Alice or her delicate sensibilities.
This isn't a question of rights.
Just to recap, Alice can say whatever she likes, and I can respond.
Hooray! Tom-ba all around! Trunchbulls and epithets for all!
BBB-no in dust storms first amendment rights are suspended…that's uh, what I was trying to say.
Motherfuckers need to just chill.
Cunt!
so silent, are you also saying you have a low opinion of people who use it? Or jsut the different strokes for different folks? Im just curious
cait, does your ass have a community organizer, though?
Well, I have the right to take that stick and stab you in the throat with it. Hope that doesn't offend anyone.
Wow .. Jesus uses more profanity than I expected.
Great, Alice. That will be convenient when I move there after the election.
If my ass had a community organizer, I'm pretty sure he or she would run for president.
Cait- where the hell did you come from? All my arguement is that any person can say anything even if it is stupid. I never said anyone is censoring anyone.
and WTF is a trunchbull?!
Cait's Ass Stick is running for President in 2012. Tom-ba and sammiches for all!
Damn, since we can't not not be offended at anything, pretty much everything you just said was pretty offensive.
I'm offended by Palin, by people's demeaning descriptions of her, but especially by YOU JC.
The JC I know wouldn't play me like that.
You take a motherfucking nail through the palm and you'd be cussing up a cunting storm too.
Even The Jesus needs to let rip sometimes.
Jesus' middle name is not fucking. Everyone knows it's Henry. Jeez.
I can still get out the occasional "pussy" in the eye of a tornado.
April- I think I am leaning toward different strokes for different folks, but obviously saying the word cunt doesn't garner respect.
BBB says "Because I feel it takes away from the validity of any point you are trying to make."
I totally agree. I have been coming here a lot more since the increase in political content and a lot of you seem to be very intelligent and I enjoy the debate. But when you guys get into the name calling (especially that word), it makes me think that you really aren't that smart and I lose respect for the writer.
evil twin: you more than anyone here should know about my doppelganger.
Jesus Henry Christ is a pussy, he's the cunt who carries you on a sandy beach. I say you fucking walk.
Stoney, so pussy is ok, but cunt is bad? You see, I'm making a list …
Is anyone else thinking of George Carlin right about now??
yes, silent noodles, it is the first amendment. the FA essentially prohibits a state from restricting protected speech.
If those conservative people starting calling obama a nigger, you can be damned sure I would discount everything else they had to say.
not everyone has the luxury of trolling the internets endlessly for news.
and if someone happens to be coming here for gossip news, and that someone happens to stumble upon one of these threads, i don't see what your problem is with my point that certain rhetoric might turn these people off.
am i missing something?
When Palin winked, it looked like she had some kind of nerve disorder. Winking is not as easy as it looks, and she made it look damn labored.
alice, you're continued refusal to see a point other than your own is mind boggling.
dammit: "your"*
all my grammar and decorum is going out the window.
ugh.
It's like a self-destructive device.
PS I don't own a gun, but I would surely sit on them.
stoney, i find your use of the word "pop" offensive.
everyone knows it's "soda."
:)
Self-destructing NuYkCLEEArERR device.
stopthemadness: Why NOT use "such words"?
STM, all Im able to gather is that:
1. The word is offensive to some
2. There are consequences for what we say
3. You can't please everyone
Beyond that, if I am undestanding you correctly, you think my launguage might turn off people who are coming to this site for stimulating discourse. That falls in the the catagory of consequence. I can live with that.
Kinda back on subject: Sarah Palin thinks?
Whassupwitdat?!
She's such a cunt!
Mutterhals, excellent point. No one could look past the word cunt to see that what I was talking about. People, she wants to expand the powe of the vice presidency. That's fucking scary.
Jesus Fucking Christ-
i didn't call her a pussy, cunt, hoo ha, or lady parts.
please don't ask me questions that seemingly relate to something i said, when the question, in reality, has nothing to do with anything i said.
alice, good for you.
On Palin's "sparkle."
Bad!
Oh, Henry.
No. 113 Alice says:
Mutterhals, excellent point. No one could look past the word cunt to see that what I was talking about. People, she wants to expand the powe of the vice presidency. That's fucking scary.
YOU JUST MADE MY POINT FOR ME.
::smiles::
*self-righteous
STM, your point was that your too uptight to look past one word that offends you? Ok. Didn't realise that was your point.
I realise that isn't what you mean, but that is certainly one was to read it. Can't see the forest for the trees. Thinking in that way has to be awfully limiting.
Blue Canary, I thought it was pretty obvious she had Aqua-Netted™
her bags to her eyelashes.
STM - I was unaware Alice was trying to make a meaningful point. I guess I really have no more to say one the subject, your rebuttal was nicely written. Well played STM, well played.
*bangs*
STM: Actually, it does relate to what you said.
"And if you will read my original point, it was less a "these words hurt my delicate sensibilities" and more a "why would you use such words if you're trying to make a meaningful point?""
To which I again say, why not use "such words".
*on the subject
alice, you've already lost.
i'm grinning from ear to ear.
no takesy backsies.
STM, actually, where I'm from, it's all COKE. Sprite is coke, Pepsi is coke, Slice is coke. Soda=pop=coke in the South.
thank you silent noodles. i have enjoyed your comments here for the past few months.
really, i have.
Nobody loses to anyone who says "no takesy backsies".
You lose, cunt!
Right, bbb? Although, in light of the evidence of her maybe-possibly tattoo-lipstick, she may just have some really funky ideas about hair and eyelash fraternization.
Or, not so much. Whichever…
mutterhals: praise the lord!
Oh, you did already.
OK bitches, it's been fun but I should do some work.
The LORD Jesus Fucking Christ proclaims Alice the victor.
Bow down the rest of you non-believing cunts and pray for salvation from your "holier than thou' attitudes.
Because I'm more holy than the motherfucking lot of you!
Have a nice fucking day.
looks like we've reached the ad hominem attack portion of the programming.
excellent debate tactic.
Man, I need to start hanging out here again! I miss all the best smackdowns!
again, where did i claim to be morally superior?
if you address something i have actually said, i'd be happy to respond.
i'm not going to respond to ad hominem attacks and other logical fallacies.
Here at work we use: "C U Next Tuesday" so we don't get in trouble for sexual harrasment.
I call jerky men "cockshafts". Is that offensive? I don't know. and I don't care.
stoney, are you from texas? i have a friend from texas who says that all soda is called coke there.
here in la, we call coke bolivian marching powder.
STM, sweetheart why are you still running on? Remember, you won, didn't you? It's over!
See, now that the Republican infighting over Palin is over (for now, at least), Democrats are taking it back.
i don't believe i was talking to you, was i alice?
i AM done with you.
thank you.
Alice, sometimes I wonder if you're seriously deranged, bless your heart.
is anybody going to tell me what a trunchbull is?
ANYBODY? PLEASE?
Alice, when you say sweetheart, it makes my eye twitch.
TN here.
Would some of you cunts please go over to Drudge and vote for Biden. Those dumbasses actually think PALIN won the debate.
Nope, you were talking with Jesus, but he took off. Now, you're not talking to anyone.
this cunt, will gladly go do that stoney.
:)
errant comma alert.
No, stm is just not talking to you. Does that hurt your feelings or something?
what part of "i'm done with you" do you not understand, alice?
Ahem, while I know I shouldn't indulge, you actually were the first to launch an ad hominem attack (i.e. "enjoy your day, hags and crazy people.")Of course, I don't take offense.
oh ding dang, i went and misquoted myself:
what part of "i AM done with you" do you not understand?
please forgive me.
Let me know when the Holy Fucking Spirit arrives. I could stand to be resurrected.
It's only an attack on you if you are indeed a crazy person. Hag is not an attack.
mutterhals, i will concede half the point. "hags" is not an insult. "crazy people", yes.
I could use some divine intervention from the Holy Fucking Father to get this project to lay out right in InDesign.
Well.
Excuuuuuuse me for taking lunch.
If hag isn't an insult, than neither is cunt.
Alice, you're so far wrong, you're almost right.
Hag is more of a badge of honor, to clarify the point.
Because you say so? Hags have long roamed Mollygood.
say what? Have you read Mathilda? Or seen the movie?
So, cunt is bad and hag is good? This is certainly enlightening! You can call me whatever you wish, I'll never complain.
Nobody thinks we're curing cancer here on MG, but we traditionally like to keep it klassy around here.
ah janice I wish I would have just said that in the beginning…
Janice, I respect that, but I disagree. There is a reason we have expletives. Sometimes no other word fits the bills. Sometimes some people are so beyond the pale that no other word will do.
Surely no one in this .. uh, let's call it a room, can say that they haven't used a off color word to describe some one that annoys them, bugs them, pisses them off, angers them etc.
If I'm the only person who uses this kind of language, it's news to me. If none of you have ever described a person you don't like in a very unflattering way … well, then I apologise. But for some reason I don't believe it's true.
Wait, we keep it CLASSY here?!
*reevaluates life*
Oh snap I just realized someone called me "loud noodles" so witty that one….
There is also a reason we have gendered expletives and racialized expletives… but apparently no one cares about that anymore.
It's what I do, Noodles.
It's what I do.
Um, there's a link to Drunken Stepfather and dlisted on the right. I don't think we need to worry about keeping things classy in here. I rest my case.
Apparently, that's how they do in London, janice.
Saying Sarah Palin is a "cunt," is like calling someone a "nazi." You automatically lose your argument.
So it doesn't get your point across that you hate her by just calling her a bitch (expletive) instead of the other (nasty expletive)?
Janice, let's say I'm taking the word back. I'm bring cunt back to women. It's just like blacks who took back the worn nigger.
Please tell me everyone knows the difference between classy and klassy.
If not, I'm off to take some hemlock.
Someone answer say what please!!!! I want to know what a trunchbull is too!
You're not Inga Muscio, and you're not using it in a positive way. Don't insult feminism by mocking it further.
Can I just say I absolutely love this site because of you amazing people and your equally amazing cuntilicious comments!
Ah geez. Now you've done it. Worn nigger.
*braces self*
Where's Jesus Fucking Christ when you need him?
Evil, I disagree. Nazi speaks to a very specific ideology, government and the holocaust. Cunt is just a "dirty" word.
Wtr, I could have used another word, but I didn't. I just used the a word that came to mind.
Yes, I do Blue Canary, I got a 100% on my spelling and vocab quizzes today.
Janice, feminism is an entirely different ball of wax that probably isn't worth getting into now.
For the record, I was joking. My original use of the word was a joke.
trunchbull: evil cunt from Matilda
@bbb #163…seen only a VERY SMALL part.
is the teacher named Trunchbull?
if so, THANK YOU FOR ANSWERING ME. (Cait, I'm looking at YOU, sistah!)
No, I
