Most colleges, universities and high schools in the US have service clubs, and they usually raise money all year then go to some poor country or some poor area in the US and offer their time and labor to help with whatever project they're involved in. $14,000 is a decent fundraising effort for one of these clubs, and it will probably go into a larger fund.

Publicity is publicity whether or not it reaches the intended target. (Also, are you able to track web traffic for MollyGood? Because if not, I don't think you know who comes here. Or have you polled the entire country?).
