No Kidding

John Edwards released a statement after admitting to cheating on his cancer-ridden wife back in 2006. You can read the entire transcript here, but most of it says what you'd expect: It was only for a short time and he's not the father of any baby — and he's willing to take the tests to prove it. He goes on:

It is inadequate to say to the people who believed in me that I am sorry, as it is inadequate to say to the people who love me that I am sorry. In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic. If you want to beat me up feel free. You cannot beat me up more than I have already beaten up myself. I have been stripped bare and will now work with everything I have to help my family and others who need my help.

It's a good thing he really had no chance against Barack or Hillary, or else the Democratic party would really be in trouble.

And John, you are "special," just like Ed.

I'm mulling over the statements: "it was only for a short time; it's not my baby; and the real gem: I didn't love her."

Look out Kevin Federline, you have some competition for Father of the Year!

i am sooooooo disappointed to hear this. the cheating thing is bad enough, altho ultimately nobody's bizness except the parties involved, but the lying and covering up, and possibly paying off part is such a disappointment. i really really liked him and felt like he was such a moral person, politically speaking. ugghh. the whole thing makes me really sad for him and his family. i have to wonder why were the paps at the hotel that night? and who took the pics of him in the hotel room with the baby?

Doesn't this remind you of every incorrigible 9 year old that you have met?

(Not the regular 9 year olds-they usually have learned to take responsibility. They usually have also learned that things go easier when you tell the truth. You still have consequences from your actions, but not as bad as when you lie to cover.)

I can just see this all going down in the principal's office:

First-blame the friend. Andrew did it.

Then-minimize the deed. I didn't MEAN to do it, it was only for a short time. Plus I didn't love her, so it doesn't count.

Then-avoid punishment. I have beat myself up already. You don't have to mete out punishment.

Edwards. Grow up.

Oh ilnaz, you know what? I was in the Principal's office when he was getting dressed down.

He can't play on the team as part of his punishment for a year. And during that year, he has to keep his grades up and keep his nose clean,
and keep up with his child support payments.

They, (I guess the Principal and the admin) will review his progress, and then decide if he can get back on the team again.

I am wondering if he gets awarded visitation rights, how that will go over with Mrs. Edwards.

I know if I was she, I'd be like "That's on YOU. I raised MY kids already. Have fun at the park, DADDY."

What about McCain and his 1st wife? Why is it when democrats have affairs we hear talk of how it might ruin their career in politics, yet republicans like McCain, H W Bush, Newt Gingrich get a pass.

Read this about McCain's first wife Carol:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/fem.....ehind.html

She was a swimsuit model when he married her, but while he was a POW she was in a horrible car crash. When he came back he immediately started cheating. John meet Cindy when he was 42 and she was 24. He had a wife and children at home and he was chasing the 20 year old blonde cheer leader around a desk.

He abandoned his first wife after she was crippled to marry a 20 year old skinny blond cheerleader, who happen to be the heir to a 100 million+ fortune.

What Edwards did is despicable, but when do repugs always get a pass? Edwards mentioned McCain's affair in his ABC interview yesterday and they edited it out? Tell me about the liberal media bias again.

What makes you think she went after him? That whole thing about how she went after him is total bullshit. So what if someone is attracted to you? It doesn't mean you have the right to stick your peen in whatever takes a shining to you. Frankly, they should both be ashamed, but she didn't have a husband whose cancer just went into remission.

This confirms every bad feeling I've ever had about him. He just looked too slick for me.

What I wonder about is that everyone thought that John Edwards was this super nice family man. Everyone thinks the same thing about Obama. Is this truth-shedding about John Edwards going to bleed over to the Obama campaign?

maybe it's a sad commentary on the state of fidelity and commitment and yadda yadda, but i really don't get outraged by this stuff. it's private crap between the family. all of this "oh i cheated, now i'm going to drag my wife to a press release and make her stand there while i tell the world what a douchebag i am" crap is getting old.

it was a horrid thing to do, yes. but that doesn't change the fact that he has been pretty much the lone voice speaking out against poverty and corporatism. it just sucks that all of that is going to be eclipsed by this craptasticness simply because he couldn't keep his weiner in his pants. or at least stick it in a bagel hole if he really wanted something different.

nice move, johnny boy.

now can we all move on?

He's a Democrat that's all, and who else in this race shares his beliefs more than Obama? Edwards is young, attractive (by political standards), charasmatic and had that "I come from meger beginning" shtick. I have pondered the great mystery, so many times and haven't figured out the answer.

Why do many politicians, (and back in the day, many televised preachers) seem to fall victim to the "snake in the can syndrome"?

We actually called it the "jack-in-a-box syndrome".

For the youngs, a jack-in-a-box was not just a delicious fast food restaurant. It was a toy first.

You would turn and turn the crank on this box, but you never could tell when the jack would pop out.

It would suprise and delight you with the spontaneous upward thrust. Very similar to a snake in a can.

The press is still talking about it. Comparing Edwards to Clinton, I guess keeping it in the political family. Good for McCain because he certainly doesn't want to talk about his political family, Foley (pedophile), Craig (shady bathroom sex), Vitter (sex with prostitutes), Ryan (creepy s&m group sex).

It just makes me mad. It's not like there is a war, a recession, a crumbling infrastructure or anything important going on.
