Mission: Very Possible

Again: UN goodwill ambassador Angelina Jolie is in freakin' Iraq! From these pictures, we can gather she's been eating chow in the mess and somberly taking notes in some meetings. But what's she actually doing there? "She's here in her official capacity to talk to government officials, the military and the United Nations about Iraq's refugees and displaced persons." Ah, OK.

Behold: Jolie's "official" findings:

"There are over 2 million internally displaced people and there doesn't seem to be a real coherent plan to help them," Jolie told CNN. "There's lots of goodwill and lots of discussion but there seems to be just a lot of talk at the moment and a lot of pieces need to be put together…"

WHOA! Iraq is chaotic? Thanks, Angie. Keep up the good work.

I just can't imagine anything in Iraq being disorganized or completely snafu. How could it be? We had that really cool plan when we went in there so, what could possibly go wrong?

But thanks so much, Angelina. It's nice the American public will finally get to see how crazy it is over there. Here I am thinking it's all picnics and parades.

Hmm. I think she is trying to use her celebrity for good and actually hopes to make a difference. Even if she all she accomplishes is to attention to the utter lack of a plan for assisting the refugees - something I don't see covered much in our news reports here - then I can't slam her for it.

It's good they found a soldier as pretty as her to pose within the picture. I'm just sayin', he's hot. She is very brave, alot of celebs and our government officials are to afraid to step foot in that country.

Even if what she does over there doesn't really make a difference, it's still cool to see a popular public figure visiting and checking out the situation for themselves. I'm sure the guys, and some girls, there were delighted to see Angelina Jolie interested in their work. Anything that makes a soldier smile is fine by me.

Sorry for being so cynical. Who cares? Does it change anything and make it better? Nope, not even a little bit.

Actually, he's a Marine - HUGE difference. We Army personnel are called "Soldiers", Airforce personnel are "Airmen", Navy personnel are "Sailors" and collectively we are called "Troops". Sorry, just a peeve of mine.

If you listen to her interview with CNN, she is there because UNHCR wants to get into Iraq to help the 4 million displaced people, half of which are under the age of 12!!! because of Bush's war, but the US government so far hasn't let them in. She is there to negotiate and find out why UNHCR can't get in. She hasn't been able to get answers from her research. The State Dept. sent her because she doesn't bash either side. She listens well and helps by not being polarizing. She has risked her life along with everyone else who goes there and is there. The Green Zone is far from secure and people have been blown up inside it many times. A little respect please.
