Oopsies!

Twelve years too late, prosecuters have finally cleared JonBenet Ramsey's family in her killing in light of new DNA evidence. Oh, but law enforcement is "deeply sorry." Which makes the fact that the family has been publicly scorned and placed under suspicion all OK.

'To the extent that we may have contributed in any way to the public perception that you might have been involved in this crime, I am deeply sorry,' Boulder County District Attorney Mary Lacy wrote in a letter to the little girl's father, John Ramsey. 'No innocent person should have to endure such an extensive trial in the court of public opinion.'

Whatever. You can't blame the police and other people for suspecting Mr. and Mrs. Ramsay. At the very least, they were guilty of being creepily narcissistic parents who abused their kid by putting her in pageants where very young girls were made up to look as much as possible like grown women.

I agree but the vast majority of pageant parents don't kills their children, so I don't see why that should contribute to suspicion.

Lauren, I think JonBenet is buried in the Atlanta area - weren't the Ramseys from that area before they lived in Colorado.

I think we vilified the family for 12 years for three primary reasons:

    1) The house was unlocked because Boulder was traditionally a very, very safe city. The fact that her body was found IN the house was beyond belief.

    2) They were creepy stage parents.

    3) Misinformation and overzealous media/police coverage and handling of the case destroyed the Ramseys' reputation from the outset.

But being creepy stage parents doesn't make them killers. It just makes them narcissistic.

The Ramsays dressed and painted their little bitty girl up like a Vegas strumpet and schlepped her from one "pageant" to another, to be ogled by men (and women) who become judges in these things because they love ogling little bitty girls dressed like Vegas strumpets. This "Little Beauty" pageant racket is a notorious magnet for pedophiles, and anyone who would subject their child to such a thing is a child exploiter at the very least if not a downright abuser, and has a lot to answer for. The Ramsays are awful people.

Welcome, Lauren! I live down the road in Erie. She was murdered by someone the parents knew, if it wasn't them. All the DNA testing that they did was two tiny samples that could have been left by one of the thousands of people present at the crime scene. Seriously, when someone kills your kid and you refuse to answer police questions so that they can move forward and find the killer, when you skip town ASAP and when THEY FIND A "PRACTICE" RANSOM NOTE IN YOUR OWN HOME, something's wrong. That and the kid was missing for hours before they found her. I'm sorry, but any parent would have gone through the entire house looking for their kid. I've checked damn cabinets when my kid wouldn't answer me, okay? It's absurd. The beauty queen stuff was bad enough, but there's no doubt that they knew more than they shared.

All those years living under scrutiny, on top of losing their daughter, killed her mother and is slowly killing her father. The police department should be ashamed of their mistakes.

I just tinkled in my pants, Lisa. Cait, thanks for putting me in my place. I am by no means a JonBenet Ramsay expert, as evidenced by the way I've chosen to misspell her last name. However, I'm tellin ya, the parents knew. They knew. And -eww- the worst part of all this is that one of the news stations here obtained a quote from that freak John Mark Carr. Who cares what that pedophile thinks? (He didn't kill JonBenet, but he is, in fact, a pedophile.)

I'm sorry, Lale - my only intention was just to point out the fact that tabloid media created so much misinformation around this case that of course it was easy to vilify her parents. And God knows they didn't help matters much with their inherent creepiness, right? :(
