Most of us think that Kanye West is completely selfish and self absorbed, but maybe we’re wrong about the “completely” part. He’s teamed up with MTV for a one-hour Choose or Lose special, during which he and MTV-resident Sway will visit the homes of returned soldiers, listen to their stories, and just hang out. An MTV VP says Kanye West was chosen because his music resonates with soldiers returning from the war. OK. Here’s what Kanye says about the good deed:

"… Kanye, through the Dr. Donda West Foundation, will be paying off their outstanding debts, rent, and tuition fees." (From the stereohyped post)
In other words, he'll be doing something the Shrub administration should be doing instead of giving tax breaks to the rich.
To paraphrase Kanye's most famous remark, "George Bush doesn't care about poor people."

Since this show HAS to have a Kanye bent, I'd like to see him retool the song "stronger" for the show and perform it for the returned soldiers and their confused parents and neighbors at a cul-de-sac party:

Work it, make it, do it,
Makes AMERKA harder, better, faster, stronger!

Work it harder make it better,
Do it faster makes us stronger,
More than ever, hour after hour,
    Work is never over AMERKA

    Now that don't kill you,
    Can only make you stronger.
I need you to blow up an insurgent now
'Cause USA can't wait much longer.
I know we got to be right now
'Cause Iran & Iraq can't get much wronger.
Man, we been waitin' all night now,
That's how long I hate Dubya.

    I need USA right now,
    I need USA right now.

    Let's get faded tonight,
You can be my undereducated tonight.
Play recruiter, I'm a teen jaded tonight,
And you don't give a fuck what we fight for, right
America, you're Christian like Christian Dior,
Damn, they don't make 'em like Reagan anymore,
I ask 'cause I'm not sure,
Is Iran even a country anymore?
Bow in the presence of US greatness
'Cause right now thou hast forsaken us.
You should wave a flag for my lateness,
That I would even blow up and rape shit.
So go ahead, go nuts, go ape shit,
Especially on Al Quieda on the towel shit,
Act like you can't tell who made this,
AMERICA homey, take six, and take this, haters.

    I need USA right now,
    I need USA right now.

I don't know if you got Veterans Assistance or not,
If you made plans or not,
If Bush cares about your plans or not,
I'm trippin', the war got me sayin' a lot.
But I know that Bush put terrorists in front of me,
So how the hell could you front on the GOP?
There's a thousand yous, and yet no one is free.
I'm trippin', I'm caught up in the moment, right
'Cause it's Louis Vuitton Don Rumsfeld night,
So we gon' do everything that USA like,
Heard they do anything for a Klondike,
Too fat and lazy to even ride bikes.
And they all watch FOX news at night,
And we'll blow up anything when the time's right,
    Uh, soldier, you're makin' it
    Harder, better, faster, stronger

Don't forget the white vent glasses to really drive the message home. Y'know, for the troops.

Maybe Kanye's people tell him to do one good thing a year? After all, any money spent on his part can be written of on his taxes. I bet he can find a way to write off the time as well. He could easily say the his time could have been spent earning millions …

    I'm an undying cynic.

I have to disagree with you Alice. Even if Obama wins, we aren't going anywhere soon. We have fucked it up too bad over there, if we just pull out now it will be a bigger disaster than it already is. I don't see us getting out of Iraq for at least 5 more years. 10 years if we don't get off our ass and let them set up their own government and not just some US shell. That is for major troop withdrawal. I think we will always have troops stationed there like we did in Germany after WWII.

It's great, especially since the VA system has failed veterans. Almost no mental health care services and long waits. Mentally ill soldiers being sent for their 3rd tours of duty with some Prozac and a "walk it off" attitude to major depression, anxiety and post traumatic syndrome. For the many with brain damage, also horrible care.
