Those are tribal scars on his face, given to him when he was younger. He does not have bad skin as in acne scars.

If we don't recognize ugly, we can't recognize beauty, no? Seal may be considered ugly (merely a point of taste) for whatever reason–whether a birth defect or a self-inflicted wound.

As Cord said, bashing babies is stupid on many levels, not least being that babies don't look as babies the way that they will look for most of their lives. Seal's looks are pretty much, well, sealed. I think it's unfair to say that Cord called Seal ugly simply because of his scarred face. Years ago I thought Seal's scars were the most appealing aspect of his face. Now I don't. Eh.
