Good Cries

judecry

A new series of portraits by conceptual photographer Sam Taylor-Wood features some of Hollywood's most sought after leading men – Sean Penn, Ryan Gosling, Daniel Craig, etc – in tears. According to Taylor-Wood, the idea's pretty simple: "It's about the idea of taking these big, masculine men and showing a different side." Yay, straightforward, unpretentious art.

I'm a crier myself, so I say more power to Taylor-Wood and her subjects. And special kudos to Jude Law, who went above and beyond by not just crying, but doing so in a corner in the fetal position.

I'm pretty sure that's just Jude in his natural habitat.

yeah, jude law seems pretty depressed, also maybe prone to exaggeration = recipe for abundant tears.

Some of them look posey. I'd like to see actresses cry; people like Salma Hayek or Elizabeth Taylor (younger), who generally have a professional face on at all times, letting it all out- quivery chin, boogs hanging out. Let's get raw.

Oddly, I really like the Robin Williams one. I'm not a big Robin fan, but that picture touches me for some reason.

Why do I not see Paul Newman?

I think Daniel Craig looks like a demon, and Ed Harris looks totally fake.

Hayden Christiansen looks about how I picture him looking whenever he's told no, he can't go out and play, mommy needs him to clean his room.

I like the Daniel Craig one. He's all like "Will you forgive me for just beating the crap out of you?"

I'm not buying it. I need to see some snot running out of the nose and the look on their face like they are constipated. That look also works for looking fierce. The constipation and not the snot.

The Ryan Gosling pic is old. I only know this cuz I like looking at pics of him, being that he's hot as shit.

I've seen is before and he's not crying. Just looking pensively sad.

it took her years to get this book done. ….this is why some of the photos look old. It aint easy getting all these boys in one room at the same time….I know for a fact she was taking these 4-5 years ago.

These were done back in 2004. Beautiful, but…
I dunno…Aren't actors given to cry on cue?

See Bas Jan Adler's work for something a little more authentic.

That's not to say she's a sellout..I just saw some of her sculptures at Art Basel a few years back. I just felt those were more "visually arresting" than this….
