Not-So-Dark Night

jokersinline.jpg

The Dark Knight finally hit theaters starting at 12:01 a.m., with theaters even selling out their 3 and 6 a.m. showtimes. My friends are lame and didn't want to go at midnight, so I chickened out because the joker masks scare me (it probably goes back to my fear of clowns) and I didn't want to be alone with the crazies (see above) late at night. So for those of you brave enough to face the masses: Was it worth it?

That joker looks a little like Gary Oldman. A sad, drunk, dirty Gary Oldman. I'm going to see this next weekend since my weekend is all screwed up. Don't anybody spoil it.

As i was leaving Journey to the Center of the Earth in 3D (great movie!) i saw the line of people waiting for The Dark Knight. What really disturbed me was the 4 girls about the age of 19 with their little black leggings and tank tops, tiny black capes and their batman underoos on. Oh yeah, and they were sucking on lolipops. (I dont think that had anything to do with the movie.) I guessed that people would dress up, but that was just stupid.

How dare they disparage the underoo.

Let's be honest, Whit: Your friends aren't lame…you didn't go because they wouldn't let cats in the theater.

I saw it on Wednesday and think its awesome. Definitely better than the first. Heath Ledger was amazing.

The only trailers they showed at the sneak preview were for Terminator and Body of Lies.

Can't wait to watch it again.

It was very good but not as good as Iron Man. So much happened in the film that it was hard to get invested in any one storyline. So yes, it was good, but no, it was not amazing.

The Dark Knight was absolutely phenomenal! I saw it at 12 last night and it definitely didn't disappoint. I was afraid that it might turn out not as great as all the hype made it out to be but it blew my mind. GREAT movie.

It was amazing! I saw it at 12:05, and it surpasses the hype! There were definitely a few crazies dressed as the joker, spewing playing cards and creepy smiles around, though…THAT I could have lived without…

I swear that I mean no offense by this, but the 12:01 am showing is almost always reserved for scifi flicks, hence it is known in the theatre business as 'The Early Nerd' Showing.

I saw it at 330 AM this morning. Gotham (Chicago) looks great and Heath is amazing as the Joker. I just dont like Batman's weird low voice. Its like hes running out of air in that suit. Go now!

I just got back from it and it was great. Heath Ledger was unbelievable. I would put this performance up against any of his other great acting jobs. After this, there will be the other people who played the Joker and Heath Ledger. He crawled into the role and made it his. I sat through the second half of the move thinking how sad it was he died so young. He was an amazing actor.

I'm with you foregone conclusion, I can't wait for the Watchmen.

Who are you trying to fool STM. We all know you are going in your joker costume. There was someone at my show dressed as the Joker. It was kind of sad, but I have faith you can pull it off.

I admit: I was there last night at 12:01, popcorn in hand waiting for the film to start. It was spectacular. I am not a comic geek, nor am I that attached to the Batman franchise, but it was the best film I've seen all year. Heath Ledger was absolutely brilliant and Aaron Eckhart was just as good. Loved it.

    Sad.

Amid the promotional storm suggesting that ledger's Joker, would be some new fangled shining beacon of artistic greatness, I was worried that what is shown in the previews would be a shallow representation, much like the Jokers "mask", paint that would just come off easily….but I was stunned, at how seamlessly and discretely the expression of insanity/psychopathic personality was done…yes there is the obvious guy who kills for no apparent reason…but there is more…what you gradually see is the mixture of madness AND genius in the jokers expression, a sense of twisted profundity to his aims.

Here we have a character that is a true match for batman and his negative reflection, caring nothing for consequences, but merely to play with the lives of those around him.

Batman goes deeper and must confront his limitations as well as re-embrace his core-self, in order to survive the doubts within, with joker as his opponent, it becomes clear that batman is not just an egotistical indulgence of a wealthy philanthropist, but a psychic necessity for the preservation of some order…with monsters like Joker about….batman will always be neccessary..

And so, it saddens me to have seen such a spectacular portrayal of the Joker, who is the first trully great and terrible match for our masked crusader, and to know we will never see HIM again.

This movie is a testament to Batman, but also to a classic portrayal of mad genius…heath has good reason to be proud of his achievement as does his family.

I dare say, it will not be topped in our lifetime, not in the world of Batman.

Oscar or no, I will not forget this. 10/10.
