Why the hell do people think it's "cute" to overfeed cats and dogs? It's NOT cute, people. It's a big health risk and it's not funny when I see fat cats struggling to move around and can't barely breath.

Broomstick: I hear you. I'm such a sap it makes me teary thinking someone abandoned the cat, but over feeding him to that degree made me sad and angry. At the shelter where I volunteer we recently received two dogs that were so fat that when someone told me the breed of one of them I assumed they were mistaken and checked the dog's chart.

The other is so big that we have to be careful when we walk her because the strain in combination with temp outside is too much for her and too risky. She can only go for very short walks in the shade. I think that exemplifies why overfeeding is such a bad thing–walking the dog for more than 5-10 minutes could kill it. Walking…

I hate seeing this cat look like this. The health problems for them are as severe as it would be for a 500 pound person. It's abusive.

My boss has a Jack Russel that is fat as hell. It looks so miserable. It's a loving affectionate dog, but it looks like it's miserable and in pain. He and his wife think that it's funny, but I find it dispicable.
