Life Is Unfair

Poor Lynne Spears. The mother of two cash cows (Britney and Jamie Lynn) and one disappointment (non-celebrity Bryan) has had a tough go at it lately, what with Brit going insane and JL doing the whole teen pregnancy thing. But even worse than that, she has been crucified in the tabloid world for her horrible parenting skills. This is an issue, Lynne says, because the woman who is potentially "a heartbeat away" from the presidency has been applauded for being in a very similar situation:

It's a totally different reaction. It's as if [Sarah Palin] became celebrated. … Every woman in the world has applauded her strength and her convictions and poor little old Jamie Lynn—you saw how she was crucified. Everybody did, firsthand … I just feel like it's been a very hypocritical situation.

Now, we're not trying to defend Sarah Palin here, but the situations were a teensy weensy bit different: She didn't raise her child on a Hollywood set, and she didn't pimp out her issues to OK! magazine for a million dollars. That aside, Sarah actually did get quite a bit of criticism for having a pregnant teenager — but Lynne probably only watches Entertainment Tonight for her breaking news.

but sarah palin did pimp out her pregnant daughter and her baby daddy for a week at the RNC, surely there's a pretty good return on investment there. so i'd say she and lynne spears are about even.

If it were a McCain/Spears ticket this year, I'm sure both criticism and support for Jamie Lynn would be stronger.

this poor woman is confusing the US election with a pageant held in the parking lot of a strip mall.

Well, Bill O'Reilly did dedicate a segment to her lack of parenting while later saying how Caribou Barbie's daughter's teen pregnancy is a miracle of life.

Maybe she's on to something.

JD, good point.

while the general population (mostly) castigated them both, it was the hypocrisy from "the right" (aka people like Bill O'Reilly) that she's most likely referring to.

and she's right.

I think that's why I'm agreeing with her. And, what has bothered me most about this whole shiz is people on the Right spouting off about bad parenting and crap - well, I knew a few girls when I was in high school that had abortions and they didn't tell their parents. So, for all you parents out there thinking your upstanding non-pregnant kids are a testament to your awesome parenting, get a clue. There's a chance they just haven't told you.

As loathe as I am to agree with Lynne Spears, she in fact, does have truth on her side - at least as far as it concerns the blatant and rampant hypocrisy of certain members of the far right.

Check out the pertinent part beginning at the 1:40 mark if you don't have time for the entire laugh fest, which actually is not funny at all when you consider how many members of our society have opted out of thinking for themselves and allow the Fox News minions shown in this clip to do it for them.

She *did* pimp her shit out to celeb rags. How do you think she wound up on the covers? That shit is not accidental. As a blogger, you should know this.

God help me for defending Sarah Palin, but while I know enough about her to not vote for any ticket she's on, I don't know that she's a bad mother. Lynne Spears on the other hand exists solely to make Dina Lohan look good by comparison.

Yeah why is that wacko Palin being appluaded? I could care less about Lynne Spears but it's true those media tw-ts are such hypocrites. I love how the Republicans and their little buddies at FOX news are so two faced. Did anyone see that clip reel Stewart put together? Unbelievable.

Lynne Spears is right on this one. Didn't Palin and some of her family also appear on the tabloid covers recently? Do you REALLY think that the baby-daddy being at the RNC was his idea to support his knocked up girlfriend, oh I'm sorry, FIANCE? PUH-LEASE. Palin and Lynne Spears aren't that different in terms of their pimping abilities and they SHOULDN'T be subject to different standards. But as Lynne points out, they definitely were.

Bristol Palin has at no point been held out as a role model for young girls. That is the MAJOR difference between her and Jamie Lynn Spears.

No. 18 MR says:

Have to say I agree with Lynne Spears… and agreeing with any Spears is a big step for me! Palin did whore her children out when it was helpful to her, just in the case of her knocked up daughter it wasn't so helpful! But, the people who accused Lynne of being a horrible mother (not that I know otherwise) are pretty much the same people who said, "Let's give Palin and her daughter a chance!" Bill O'Rielly being the first example that comes to mind.
I'll try never to agree with a Spears again after this.

Palin whored out her daughter??? During the RNC?? I haven't heard this much BS since I don't know when. Palin's entire family was on that stage, just as Obama's wife and daughters were. Does that mean he was whoring out his girls? And Palin wasn't celebrated, she was chastised horribly by the dems. HORRIBLY! How many of YOU people may have been born to a pregnant teen?? And I don't believe Palin sold pictures of her pregnant teen for money or made her preggers daughter "perform" for monetary gain. What is wrong with you people???

Jensational@

Please tell me why Palin needed to bring her daughter's boyfriend/baby-daddy on the stage??? They gave him a total make over too. So don't tell us she didn't pimp the my daughter may be preggers but she is going to marry her boyfriend/baby daddy thing.

No. 21 Jensational says:

Kaylee, that is too ignorant a remark to even dignify it with a response, but I will anyway. They're getting married. He's part of their family. I'm not a big fan of McCain/Palin, either, but please, use the common sense that God gave you. No one was being "whored or pimped" on that stage. Thank GOD I don't follow party lines and blind myself to one side.

Jensaional you know why Sarah Palin put her preg. daughter and her baby daddy on the stage. Please don't call other people ignorant when it's you sweetie. Let me just say this, Lynne Spears wasn't a christian who believes in no sex before marriag, and no sex education. Who's the hipocrite now. And you really don't know why the baby daddy was on stage. He's not apart of the family yet and did not need to be up there.

jensational, if you're not a big fan of McCain/Palin, why do you defend them so vehemently in posts about either one of them?
