Bitchassness

For all five of you who stopped watching Sarah Palin destroy our country long enough to catch the season finale of Making the Band, let's discuss. Diddy kicked out both Aubrey O'Day and D. Woods, leaving only three sad members (Aundrea, Dawn and Shannon) who looked like someone shot their puppy.

Your reality TV-loving associate editor, Whitney, attended the live taping and got some inside scoop on exactly what went down in Diddy Land (unfortunately, Puff Diddles was too busy cavorting in his Miami hotel room to join the rest of his minions at the MTV studios). Spoiler alert: There was more bitchassness than should be allowed.

I kicked things off in the green room with a handful of other reporters, awkwardly sipping my water and watching the cast members shuffle down the hallway. Day 26 member Brian came in to get a drink (non-alcoholic, mind you) and say hello to everyone. He was very friendly, but quickly began grunting about something and I couldn't understand a word he said. Upon his exit he proclaimed, "God is good!" Fair enough. I also overheard MTB solo artist Donnie Klang tell someone about performing at malls. Poor guy.

Then the reporters were shuffled into the TRL studios (bringing back my torturous days of stalking Gavin DeGraw) and given a bench in the back so we could monitor the action without fear of being caught on camera. Host Sway came out, doing his best to get the pre-teen crowd excited for the drama that was about to take place. Throughout the show he said "Wow" about 266 times and I swear I saw him roll his eyes once or twice. He's so over this.

The MTB boys — Donnie and Day 26 — came out on stage to offer up their reactions to the dismantling of Danity Kane while the kiddos in the audience squealed for Donnie. They were very friendly with the fans during commercial breaks and clearly loved all of the attention. Diddy came on the screen to offer up his infinite wisdom and mispronounce "troof" some more, much to my dismay.

Then it was time for the ladies of the hour: Shannon, Dawn and Aundrea took to the stage with tears in their eyes, clearly uncomfortable after everything that had unfolded. Whatever you saw on TV was even worse whenever the cameras shut off for commercials: Aundrea was obviously rattled and sat stone-faced with tears in her eyes the entire time. Every once in a while she would quietly mouth the words of whatever DK songs were playing over the speakers, but the poor thing mainly looked like she wanted to die. Shannon was very professional and in mama bear mode the entire time, even giving Aubrey a standing ovation when she came out and holding her hand the entire interview. Speaking of Aubs: The crowd loved her and cheered her on without prompting. There was obvious tension between Aundrea and Aubrey, as they never spoke to or looked at each other. D. Woods, in case you were wondering, had a mysterious "prior engagement," which solicited a round of boos from the audience. It's blatantly obvious that she wants nothing to do with Danity Kane ever again.

Once the hour was up and the cameras were off, the crowd was clearly dissatisfied with the way things were left up in the air: Would DK continue on with three members? Would they hold auditions to fill the other girls' spots? Would everyone quit? Would Diddy stop trying to tell us to buy the Donnie Klang album? Sway got very defensive, explaining that it was only an hour-long show and this was a touchy subject for everyone. He then segued into a "Vote or Die" speech, encouraging all those of age in the studio to vote for whichever candidate they pleased — but be sure to check out his interview with Barack Obama on MTV News. Mmm hmm.

None of the other reporters were interested in talking to anyone other than Danity Kane after the show, so I went backstage to hang out with Day 26 and Donnie Klang and figure out what the hell just happened on air. The boys of Day 26 were incredibly friendly and reminded me of a bunch of hyper 12-year-olds. There's an obvious hatred for Aubrey — Que even insisted that "Aubrey is a manipulator" and the biggest problem in DK. "It's unfortunate for Shannon, Dawn and Aundrea though. But just those three." Nobody really explained to me what went wrong, but Mike hinted that Aubrey had been influenced over the years since becoming (slightly) famous and just couldn't handle it. I asked what made them so sure their group wouldn't suffer the same fate, and Brian explained it eloquently: "We're men. We can punch each other one day and be cool with each other the next. We don't hold in emotions the way the girls do." Kind of sexist, sure, but I agreed with him. Boys are weird like that. Robert then pointed out that God was guiding Day 26. Look, dude, I admittedly don't know what God's thinking, but I'd assume he wants nothing to do with Diddy and his proteges. Maybe that's just me. Will was upset that Danity Kane couldn't get it together for their families or fans.

I awkwardly hugged the Day 26 boys goodbye and found Donnie in the hallway, who informed me that DK had left without doing interviews. How rude. He offered up his take on the situation, which was much like the rest of the boys': He's upset about it, but Aubrey has been difficult to work with — he even had a falling out with her after saying the wrong thing in an interview. Oops. He admitted that nobody talks about him because he stays out of the drama, but he prefers that because he looks up to positive people ("like Will Smith"). "It's like how my album is going," he sadly attempted, "not making much noise but creeping up slowly." Aw, Donnie. To make matters worse, he will be opening up for the Backstreet Boys on tour. I just wanted to hug him right then and there. I contemplated buying his album just to help the guy out, but then I remembered how Diddy created this whole mess and it angered me.

On my way out I ran into Sway, who asked how I liked the show. "It was great," I said, "but a little confusing toward the end. I still don't really understand what happened." He seemed to get a little grouchy, admitting that the girls still won't talk about the real issues and it makes it frustrating for him when conducting live interviews. Of course, he wouldn't tell me what said problems were, but I have a feeling Diddy is involved. He always is.

Her old personality was great! I loved Aubrey on the first Making the Band, then she turned into a titian tranny. Such a shame.

Why do they call this a band, it's a group. Band's play instruments (unless you count the skin flute).
