Homophobia Is Gay

picture2-3

Nice one, Marky Mark!

You used to be PT Anderson material, man. What happened to that guy? We're now officially hoping your juvenile, homophobic hang-ups have relegated you to a lifetime of bad-cop sidekick roles and frattastic, high-five fests like Entourage. Leave the acting to the actors.

why is it not ok for him to not want to simulate sex w/a man? i don't think he said he he felt homosexuality was wrong, he just didn't want to bone another dude. would it be "hetero-phobic" if a gay man didn't want to simulate sex w/a woman for a movie?

oh, i'm not hating on him for not wanting to have fake sex with another man, i'm hating on him for being a douche. i'm pretty sure cord hates him for the same reason, the brokeback thing is just another reason to add to the list of reasons why he sucks.

Don't forget, Mark Wahlberg played Dirk Diggle in Boogie Nights, which ends with him hustling guys on the street for a few bucks.
Brilliant movie, and an excellent performance -

His loss. Brokeback Mountain actually made $83 million dollars in 2005. That year its box office take beat Cinderella Man, Memoirs of a Geisha and even Crash by over $28 million!

He definitely has an image problem that makes him come off as homophobic and racist, whether he is or not, but I don't think brow beating someone into speaking in politically correct terms is a worthwhile endeavor. I like it when racist, sexist, homophobic, or misogynistic bigots are very vocal. That way I can be sure who is completely unworthy of my time, respect or money, and who I should completely ignore or ridicule. What happened to the days of a good old fashioned shunning?

Um… he grew up in the '80s in a tough neighborhood, and all those mistakes he made happened at 16 (petty theft, etc.), over 20 years ago. He's since apologized, and since we all weren't perfect in our teen years, everyone can stop throwing stones. He's an academy award-winning actor who has a long string of successful (and some now-classic) movies ("Fear," "Basketball Diaries," "Boogie Nights," "Three Kings," "I Heart Huckabees," "The Storm," "The Departed"). And just because he didn't want to knuckle down with some other dude in a stupid movie–you heard me: STUPID. Replace the 2 main actors with a man and a woman, and you have a very long, boring film. The ONLY reason it was successful was because so many idiots still find homosexuality "offensive." And talk about being a big baby; Ang Lee pissy since he didn't get best picture? Be grateful you were even nominated!

Uh… you're entitled to your opinion, and I'll respect that, but I think your comments paint with a very, very broad brush. For those of us who've had to alter (and even disquise) our true selves to avoid societal disapproval over who we love, we found the movie far from "stupid."

It's ridiculous to say the movie would never have worked with a man and a woman in a movie; that's not the way the short story (on which the film was based) was written. The movie was and still is controversial for some, but I think it helped create some empathy and understanding.

And "long"? That's a subjective term. The films of the Lord of the Rings trilogy were long, but that's hardly a liability. I'd much rather enjoy the nuance of detailed character development than ninety minutes of stuff blowing up. But that's just me, I guess.

Mark is not an academy award-winning actor. He was only nominated for a supporting role in The Departed, and he did not win the oscar nor the golden globe.

As for BrokeAss Mountain, once you pass beyond the initial schock of having A-list actors playing the lead roles, it comes down to the same homophobic story most gay-related flicks portray: closet cases that are unhappy and full of guilt with their sexuality that eventually end up alone or dead. Even the "sex" scenes" aren't all that sexy if you ask me. Some "love" story that is. I am surprised gay people don't see this for the propaganda against gays that it really is. I would take "Boys Don't Cry" any time, at least that was far more entertaining and enlightening.

Thank you Marky Mark for passing on BM! Had you been in it, the movie would have sucked, no one would have gone, it would have flopped and certainly would not have been nominated for best pic. I'm sure his idea of being considered was that his agent begged that they send him the script. Ang Lee would never have let him ruin his movie as such. Who needs ignorant homophobes in gay themed movies anyway?

There's nothing wrong with Mark Wahlberg's feelings about not making "Brokeback Mountain." If he has an opinion about not wanting to portray a girly man, then it exactly that: an opinion. Andy Rooney was adamant about this on "Sixty Minutes."

Mark Wahlberg has made some decent choices in selecting movie roles. I applaud his courage not to worry about being politically correct. George Clooney has never portrayed a girly man on any sized screen. Wahlberg's error is in voicing his opinion about portraying a homosexual in a movie. Remember, there's nothing gay about being queer!

Wahlberg is still available to act in movies. Heath Ledger is in a subterrainean condo. Guess he really was uncomfortable about portraying a girly man.

Um Joe, they were Cowboys, the prototypical, red-blooded American kind. Being a homosexual male doesn't make you a girly-man. Being in a Hanz and Franz sketch makes you a girly-man.

Also, "subterranean condo" is almost the least clever phrase ever. I am sure you thought it was slick and were very proud of yourself - but rest assured, it is clunky and dumb.

I don't blame him for opting out. It really wasn't that great of a film and the big sex scene wasn't sexy or romantic. I thought they really blew a chance to portray the tenderness that exists between two men who love each other to an audience who typically sees the stereotypical over the top queen-out that most gays are shown as being in pop culture.

I think its every actors right to turn down a role if they are uncomfortable with the requirements of teh character. Some guys can not "ACT" enough to kiss another guy…some actresses feel the same. Just bc the majority of Hollywood will lock lips with anybody in the name of ART and ACTING does not make those who say "no thanks" homophobic. Its a choice and a "live and let live philosphy" does not have to extent to kissing/mock f*cking another man or woman to PROVE you arent homophobic. If I dont want to kiss another girl, for real or for art…I wont apologize for it! Mark is a devout Catholic…Thats not exactly a thumbs up activity for those truly following the guidelines of Catholism. Its at the TOP of the "no no" list! So get over yourself! Gay is cool but dont shove it down every actors throat and make them feel bad for saying " i cant kiss n roll around with another guy…that creeps me out..". Everyone has a line and that happens to be where he draws his!He doesnt need the "gay nod" to be an acceptable human being or actor!
