Here Is The Church. Here Is The Steeple.

Know what's been missing from all the postmortems about the mainstream media not covering the John Edwards scandal? Some input from religious types! Other than Bill O'Reilly!

Generally, the devout frown on the cheating-on-your-wife thing, and especially the cheating-on-your-ill-wife thing. And the Catholics, who spend much of their time warning followers about spending eternity in hell, are quick to point out sins. Including those made by the media at large. Hope you've got your holy water in a bottle with a squirt spout top!

No. 1 sar says:

"The networks repeatedly displayed the Edwards marriage as a fairy-tale story of two lawyers celebrating their anniversaries over a chocolate Frosty at Wendy’s. Now we know it was bunk. For them to act like there was nothing shameful or hypocritical to expose here is another explicit display of their Democratic favoritism."

Is this article criticizing the media for having painted a pretty picture of a marriage that, as far as anyone could see, was itself a pretty picture?

Or is it criticizing the media for not being angry enough about the disappointing news, because they were so attached to him?

If political media leans left, big whoop. The worst you can say about them, even for this, is that they are continuing to not care about a guy they didn't care a whole lot about before all this.

ps I really like the Christian Dating site ad banner over this story, lol

Do we care about Edwards, really? I mean, he's not going to be President or VP anytime soon…so…enough already. I'm annoyed with all this coverage of bullshit.

Didn't McCain cheat on his sick wife with his current wife?

I think we should just accept as a whole that politicians are scum, and that among all their other misdeeds they cheat on their spouses. Then we can stop with all the surprise and outrage and press coverage that all this kind of crap gets. It really would make life much more pleasant for everyone I believe (except the spouses, but they can just go out and have their own dalliances).

The bottom line: The mainstream media would have jumped all over this if it had been a Republican.
Don't all politicians cheat? Either the taxpayers and/or their significant others?

Sar: wife no. 1 survived a horrific car crash. She was still in the long process of recovery when McSame left her for blondie. Only McSame and blondie know for sure, I suppose, but it's generally accepted that he was fucking her while still married to wife no. 1. Google john mccain first wife and you'll get a great story from The Daily Mail.

Here's what for me is the saddest part of this story: Lots of people will use it as an excuse to abandon the cause of battling poverty and seeing that poor people can get health care when they're sick.
As the Rude Pundit sarcastically says, "So, now that John Edwards has admitted he fucked around with Rielle Hunter, can we stop caring about poor people?"

What Run-DMS? You can't honestly believe that, right? I'm from Texas (a notoriously red state, in case you wonder why I brought that up) and even I don't think people are THAT bad.

Believe what, vagarious? That Johnny Mac was humpin' Cindy Moneybuckets while he was still married to wife no. 1? Or that people will point to the Edwards infidelity as "hypocrisy" (which, so far as poverty issues go, it ain't) and use that as a reason to stop caring about poverty?
I assume you mean the latter. And my answer is yes.
I've already seen plenty of self-serving bullshit that goes something like this: Al Gore gets paid a lot of money for speaking engagements, and he flies all over to speak about global warming, so he's a hypocrite; therefore, global warming is BS and we can keep driving giant SUVs and leading lifestyles that would drive us to extinction pronto if 6 billion people lived the same way.
Why wouldn't I expect the same sort of self-serving BS on poverty? Experience tells me lots of people *are* that bad.
But I'm feeling a bit down today. Maybe I'll be more optimistic about humankind tomorrow.
