Johnny "Kitten" Mellencamp, the extremely poor man's Bruce Springsteen, has asked Arizona senator John McCain's campaign to discontinue using his songs at the White House hopeful's events. Mellencamp's hits "Our Country" and "Pink Houses" have been playing at various rallies for Old Man McCain, and Mellencamp, a Democrat, is having none of that shit.
… until recently, [Mellencamp] supported John Edwards – who had been playing “Our Country” and “Small Town” at his rallies.
Not to mention that the far-right types whose votes McCain is seeking won’t love the mildly progressive lyrics to “Our Country,” which call on the government to “help the poor and common man” and suggest that “there’s room enough here for science to live/ And there’s room enough here for religion to forgive.”

Good for him…it drove me crazy when John Kerry used Fortunate Son for his campaign song…Yeah, Kerry, you're a real working class hero…but the worst was Reagan using Born in the USA…uh, had they heard ANY of the other lyrics? I can't believe Springsteen let him get away with it…
To with John McCain responded "Hurts so good baby, make it hurt so good!"
'merica. Fuck yea!
Maybe he should be happy that someone is playing his songs at all?
Johnny Cougar can do anything he wants as far as I'm concerned. He may be grizzled but he is still fine as hell.
way to go johnny boy!!
I'm puzzled that a blogger would slam Mellencamp and his music. He still a rock icon, he's always been politically active on the correct side of the aisle.
I'd like to know the musical [or any] credentials of the poser that calls him a 'very poor man's Springsteen.'
It seems to me that he politely asked McCain to stop using his music illegally: he didn't sue, he didn't get nasty.
