USA! USA! USA!

Michael Phelps won eight gold medals over the weekend, which officially sent the media into a frenzy, dubbing him the greatest athlete of all time and whatnot. It's not really surprising, but after the miraculous finish from Friday night's 100m fly we were admittedly a little nervous. You can watch the video from Friday night here and Saturday night here, if you actually have a life and haven't seen them replayed on television a thousand times.

He may be the greatest swimmer of all time… but the greatest Olympian? That's unfair. There are just a lot of swimming events at the Olympics.
And he may be breaking a lot of records… but it's easier to do better in this years Olympics because the pools are deeper and their suits are better constructed (they talked about that on CBC radio).
seriously, he is fantastic. faaaaaaaaaaaaaantastic. check out the judge quietly ready to explode with joy in the backround.
He is probably the greatest swimmer at the moment. I generally could care less about sports, and I never really watched the Olympics before, but this is exciting, I yelled at the TV and everything. By the way Whitney, can I bribe you to put up a photo of Ryan Lochte?
I need this week to be over so the Olympics is done. I am addicted and don't normally watch this much tv.
Phelps is cool to watch, and I love watching old lady Torres swimming and the Russian/German 33 year old doing the vault. I am wondering what I could do in the next Olympics as I will only be 38. Anyone care to share their Badminton coach? Trampoline looks pretty fun too.
I can't get caught up in the Michael Phelps thing, because I'm terrified that all the attention will warp him and he'll end up like Bruce Jenner…
bbug, that would be scary. but it's another generation and he is used to being on tv so much, so it's not so overwhelming. bruce, dude he used to be it, but i was just a baby then. and partyer, seriously, i, too am so addicted it's absurd. gotta go. olympics are a calling.
payter, it is a serious problem for me as well. I was supposed to be working on a report for my class on Saturday, but I had to race home early to watch Michael Phelps win his 8th gold medal.
bbug, just live in the moment. Tomorrow is a thousand miles away.
(tomorrow is a thousand miles away unless you forgot to do laundry, and you have no clean underwear for the morning.)
I've been watching so much Olympics that I have those Olympic drumbeats in my head during all my mundane tasks — opening the refigerator door "dum dum dadum dum"…
You're implying that Cord has a life?
I know a lot of people have been saying the he is arrogant or a douche bag, but honestly I don't get that read off him. In the world of douche's, he is certainly no Shia LaBeouf.
After he won his 8th gold the first thing he did was thank his team. He has said many times he couldn't have done what he did without their support. Like him or not, you have to admit that the finishes on some of those races were amazing.
He seems like a good kid to me. I think he will do a lot to encourage kids to get into sports and maybe even set the Olympics as a goal for themselves.
I agree Keebler!
He is also very appreciative of his mom - a very undouche like thing. I am pretty amazed at how down to earth he is for all he has done. At least that is the impression I get from the boob tube.
He seems like a good kid with a good head on his shoulders. I think my heart melted a little during the post-8th-gold interview, when he talked about how much he loved and appreciated his mom.
Also I go into work every morning with an Olympic Hangover. Seriously. I'm obsessed.
