Jenny McCarthy Is Going To Be Pissed

michael-savage2.jpg

Talk radio host Michael Savage (real name: Michael Weiner) has caused a stir after calling Autism "a fraud" and "racket." You can listen to his 90-second rant here, if you can stomach it, but here's his main point:

I'll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases, it's a brat who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is. What do you mean they scream and they're silent? They don't have a father around to tell them, 'Don't act like a moron. You'll get nowhere in life. Stop acting like a putz. Straighten up. Act like a man. Don't sit there crying and screaming, idiot.'

Good to see Savage's ignorance is finally getting the guy some recognition.

And yet, where was his father to tell him to "Straighten Up" and "Act like a man"? Methinks Michael Savage just declared himself autistic with this rant.

You're right, Mike! It's the mother's fault! Yes! He's figured it all out! If only those women knew how to keep a man around, their kids wouldn't have autism! I'm angry. What an asshole.

you know, a lot of people want everyone else to toughen up, and pretend that diseases aren't diseases, that we're all in total control of our behaviors all the tme and that none of us ever act on compulsions or from deficiencies. i've heard of people not believing in ADD, insomnia, obsessive-compulsions and other personality disorders. But autism is just… that goes all the way over to the other side of logic - meaning, it's probably hard for him to comprehend autism as a disease, but it's much harder for me to comprehend that there are people who don't believe autism is real. spend a couple days with a few autistic children and you'll know.

    good god.

Also Hunt there's a lot of stuff out there about vaccination formulas contributing to autism, so it could be possible that it's only become widespread in recent years. But we certainly can't tell people that something this tragic isn't real just because it's not a significant part of our own lives.

I'd love to see Mr. Savage work with a classroom full of extremely low functioning autistic children (like I used to) and find out how he fares. My guess is not well. Let his ignorant self change diapers for teenagers and try to communicate with poor kids who are non-verbal and just dying to tell you what is wrong. I doubt he'd even make it through the day, and I guarantee (if he weren't such a pigheaded a-hole) that he'd change his tune.

Perhaps Mr. Savage Weiner is jealous of/has at one time been bested by the high functioning savants within the autistic community and feels the need to lash out in the only way he knows can.

    For shame.

In one respect, I actually see his point. I've known parents who have "diagnosed" their own kids, and rather than setting some boundaries and treating them like people, they go around and deal with them with kid gloves. Obviously autism is real, so he's coming across as a jackass. But think about parents you know, and the random excuses they make for their kids' behavior. (In my case it's legitimate- my son has an aversion to being told 'no,' so I have to let him do what he wants. I don't have a choice in the matter.)

I don't think he quite understands what autism is. It's not about someone being a spineless candy-ass. Some people do like blame everything on ADD or something when really thier kids are just brats (made that way by the parents), but autism is something totally different.

i wouldn't say that 99% of these cases are a hoax, but as a mother of a 6 year old i can certainly attest to witnessing behavior that is obviously not medical, but the parents are too afraid to discipline their own kids they are told to take them to the doctor and do something….autism is real, but so are shitty parents. also just because a kid can't concentrate sometimes, and throws tantrums sometimes, and is sulky sometimes doesn't mean they are sick. it means they are a kid. when did childhood become a disease?

There's a world of difference between your "average" tantrum and sensory overload experienced by severe autistic kids. I have a niece and nephew (same father…my brother), with varying levels of autism. The daughter actually has a more severe form, less verbalizing coherently, than her brother. He is 13 now, and with physical changes, added to his already fragile social skills, it's a challenge. However, they are blessed with parents who are taking steps to help them be as independent and educated as possible. Inclusion in regular classes for the boy, specialized for the girl, at this time; sports, computer, skill building, everyday tasks ingrained through repetition, plain ole interaction, with peers as well as non-average "peers". Amazing results.

This guy is a m.o.r.o.n. Unless he's experienced it first hand, had someone close to him experience it, or participated in education in regards to intetration/inclusion, he needs to shut the hell up…he's part of the problem.

Back in the day, these kids would be locked up as unteachable. Thank GAWD for progress. Tough road and idiots who are one head injury away from mental/physical dependency are idiots of the first order.

Where's that lightening strike when ya need it???

In a hate filled broadcast a failed author moonlighting as a shock jock attacks children disabled by autism and insults their parents saying their lack of mental abuse towards children such as insults and name calling, how he was raised, has merely made them brats with parents running a racket and scam against the system. He compares it to how asthma is abused and accuses non-Caucasian races of using that as their racket to scam money and services.
Dr. Michael Alan Weiner A.K.A. Michael "Savage" is an uninformed loudmouth who abuses the limits of basic respect to garner publicity for himself. He will spew whatever he has to as the attention brings him hits for those foolish enough to advertise and associate with him. Under the First Amendment he has a right to this free speech and as consumers we have a right to not only boycott his foolish books but every single business that advertises with him and any subsidiary of them. Give them not a single penny more. Write to them and let them know you are boycotting them and starting a boycott movement in your social circle against them for their blatant support and standing firmly by the fecal matter falling out of Weiner's mouth. No revenue means he becomes a liability and loses funding to pursue his personal vendetta against everybody else in the world. This is the only true way to "fire" vermin like Weiner.

Free speech should be protected even when abused by blowhards like Weiner. But that does not mean as consumers and decent citizens and human beings we cannot organize in mass groups like the NAACP and move to stop giving one cent to any business that supports him. Rosa Parks. Montgomery, Alabama 1955. We can fight back and force our views to be heard and respected.

Please pass this along to everybody you know through email, blogs, other sites, comments, word of mouth and any other means of communication possible. If you know the businesses supporting Michael Weiner with advertising please include them as things are passed along so a list can grow of who will never see another penny while they support this misguided cretin.

This is where the free market can do what should be done to stop hate speech. We can openly condemn bad behavior of this kind. That's our freedom of speech. We are also free to do it with consequences like this. If Al Queda sold add space to Campbell's soup, would we still fund terrorism by going to that site and buying Campbells soup? Only if we agreed. The boycott is a powerful thing: just ask Rosa Parks.
