She's The Smart Twin

Looks like Mary-Kate Olsen's getting a little defensive in light of reports that she refuses to speak to authorities investigating Heath Ledger's death without the promise of immunity. Her rep issued this statement:

Despite tabloid speculation, Mary-Kate Olsen had nothing whatsoever to do with the drugs found in Heath Ledger's home or his body, and she does not know where he obtained them.

OK, great. Don't tell us, tell the investigators. And if you truly don't know anything, why ask for immunity?

Why won't you talk to the Feds MK? Did YOU give Heath the drugs that killed him? Speak up if you have nothing to hide!

I hate the argument that if you have nothing to hide, you would say something. People get scared and the government isn't as trustworthy as I'd like. Anyhow, if it is a general immunity it would protect her from any charges of any crimes investigated because of her conversation, not just Heath related - so IF she has her own drug use, held up a bank etc. she would be covered. Also, I think it is false attribution - her lawyers are probably asking for it as part of zealous advocacy for their client. It would be better if she talked to investigators, but just because she hasn't doesn't mean she has something to hide. If I were her I would be paranoid too.

Plus this could be her lawyers doings. If my lawyer told me to keep my trap shut until they told me it was alright to speak I'd listen to them. That being said, all this does is make hr look guilty of something.

Yeah look I'm not sorry about grabbing my boyfriend's behind in the supermarket but I'm not telling my kid cousin about it, she'll run around saying all kinds of unflattering things to people who already don't think I'm too normal.

I give myself a Sarah Commie for Most Unrelated Analogy. But the point remains that government is like anything else (religion!) - just a lovely set of ideals that recruits some very messed up persons. I'd be keeping the bow-shaped collagen-bombed lips sealed too, assuming I could feel them well enough to tell.

The WHOLE statement released says this-
"Despite tabloid speculation, Mary-Kate Olsen had nothing whatsoever to do with the drugs found in Heath Ledger's home or his body, and she does not know where he obtained them

Regarding the Government's investigation, at Ms. Olsen's request, we have provided the Government with relevant information including facts in the chronology of events surrounding Mr. Ledger's death and the fact that Ms. Olsen does not know the source of the drugs Mr. Ledger consumed.

We don't know the source of the information being quoted in the media regarding the Government's inquiry, but these descriptions are incomplete and inaccurate."

Paints a way different picture when you read it all, no?
