I would like an explanation as to why each of these women is beautiful.

Because they are naturally themselves inside and out. They don’t compromise their integrity and that’s beautiful.

Love it! I would have to suggest Salma Hayek too because she always looks beautiful, acts classy and never starved to a size 2 to please anyone throughout her career. What can I say, I’m a sucker for Fools Rush In…

No. 9 tt_marie says:

Um, I get the idea here and I do appreciate it. However, while some of these ladies are truly lovely, some of the picks leave me shaking my head. What was the criteria? Why do you think these women are beautiful? Is this a beautiful-on-the-inside thing in some instances? Because I’m sorry, but Serena Williams’s ass scares me.

People can preach all day long about how beauty really means being comfortable with yourself and being natural, but the world simply disagrees. Maybe the world is mistaken, but you have to deal with reality. I WISH it were true, and that I could eat all I want and never wear makeup and let my hair air dry and do its thing and still be perceived as beautiful, but that’s just not really true. And I’m not especially obsessed about my looks, but I do feel like there are certain things that are considered “beautiful” that nearly all women try to achieve. Example - - acne. NOBODY thinks acne is attractive. I naturally don’t have the greatest skin, but I am a nazi about keeping it clean and going to the dermatologist so my skin ends up nice and clear. That takes time, effort and money, and that’s not naturally how I look. That’s me fighting against nature. I totally disagree that natural always equals beautiful. Sometimes natural equals icky.

Also, when does someone become a “woman”? I think Brit Brit was confused about this for a while too.

Not trying to be contrary, it is most definately a nice post and a nice thought. It just bugs me a little bit that people always SAY these things, but many don’t really mean them. So many guys are always saying they like girls who don’t wear makeup but date girls who are all dolled up all the time.

Oh Cord - HUGE PROPS for including Arianna Huffington and Chan Marshall.

The older I get, the more I learn that REAL men know REAL beauty when they see it - and more often that not, the beauty from inside radiates and overpowers the physical. Sounds so stupid and cliche, right? It’s not. So all you out there saying “bullshit, this is SO not how the real world is” - you may just need to disassociate from the boys.

Kate Winslet
Angelica Houston

What about the men? In no particular order I suggest the following people for entirely personal and arbitrary reasons:

Adrien Brody
James McEvoy (as Mr. Tumnus)
Lil John (facial tattoos are so endearing :)
Richard Quest
Snoop Dog
Christopher Walken
Cord Jefferson

(Yes. There is something wrong with me.)

Missing Salma Hayek, Monica Belucci, and women over the age of 50 (Helen Mirren, Sofia Loren, etc)…but a great variety and (gasp! dare the McCain supporter say it?) DIVERSITY, not only in looks and ethnicity , but career choices as well. Nice job Cord :-)

Almost all good choices. However, I once spanked the Huff (Ariana Huffington) when she showed up to an event my friend’s org put on about Free Speech, but acted like she was on a friggin’ book tour and refused to speak with candor and honesty when called on her bullshit. By yours truly. By the end of the evening I had damn near put together a community group who appreciated my calling her out. She was signing a book for like, the one person who wasn’t on the Mammoth Train.

I wanted to make t-shirts that said, “I spanked the Huff and all I got was this stupid T-shirt”

Well done! While some are surprising, I think it’s refreshing. There’s something about Beverly D’Angelo’s voice that is so sexy, and yet she is simultaneously beautiful and hilarious. As a DD racked woman who wears little make-up I felt included. Where’s Whitney?? She’s been such a great addition to your team. No matter what I feel about each individual choice here, this type of entry is why I devoutly read Mollygood everyday.

No. 19 Andrea says:

I love you even more Cord! Great choices. As for tt-Marie, Serena William’s ass scares you? The way you think scares me. You are an idiot and insecure. Also, I have to say something on the Serena ass comment. It’s not fake, it’s not enhanced, she doesn’t try to hide it so some women and some men who are scared of some fucking muscles on a woman won’t judge her. Isn’t that attractive? And the point is WHO GIVE A FUCK. She likes her ass and Common likes her ass and fuck anyone who doesn’t.

PS
The Suicie Girls don’t think real boobs rock and they don’t go easy on the make-up. And I know they think their tattoos are “wild,” but they have so many it’s as if they can never become fully naked. It’s more conservative than anything. Who wants to have sex with a serpent wrapped around a vital organ or a book of quotations?

why is everyone calling bullshit on tt? while i resent the comments about serena’s butt for personal reasons (my butt is so big i have to wear at least two pairs of spandex to keep it from bouncing around painfully when i jog. when oh when will someone invent an ass-bra /rant/) she’s right about some of it. look at the women cord picked, and for that matter, the women y’all picked. all have clear glowing skin. all have regular and symmetrical facial features. and i betcha most of them spend at least ten minutes a day on makeup (with no-makeup lady being the obvious exception. but she’s in front of a bunch of makeup).
yes, internal beauty is more important. confidence is what really makes people attractive to talk to and hang out with. and beauty - enhanced though it may be - that isn’t surgerized into oblivion is way more beautiful than the fake stuff, even if only from an evolutionary perspective. but saying inner beauty is the ONLY these women and others of their ilk are beautiful? i call bullshit on the lot of you.

No. 62 Betty says:

Not to sound like an indie music turdfacedouche, but I think Annie (electropop goddess) and Lykke Li are beautiful.

And I agree about Isabella Rossellini and Meryl Streep. And has anyone mentioned Susan Surandon? Cate Blanchett? Felicity Huffman?

And while I understand where tt is coming from and part of me agrees, I also think the argument to be made here is that what “the world” finds beautiful is a general consensus that can go fuck itself. My little sister has terrible acne, acne that is painful and scarring (literally, not just emoationally), and she’s still one of the most beautiful people I know.

I may sound like some crazy cookie-cutter anti-media feminist beauty crusader, but really it’s pretty simple - beauty is more than makeup, more than body-mass-index, more than jawlines or cheekbones. If someone is kind, funny, honest, lovable.. those things will be a huge factor in determining beauty.

I know I’m preaching to the choir here and have gotten on a soapbox.. so, uh, nice list!

No. 65 Lisa (#1) says:

I hate to be nitpicky, but *smh*, there are 17 entries. 15 if you don’t count groups, such as women who go easy on the makeup and women who are comfortable with themsleves. Statistically, to mirror the US population(of course the picture changes a lot if we are looking at the world population, but not in a way that bolsters your point), there should be 1.8 african american women, 2.2 hispanic women, .6 asian women. Or 2, 2, and 1. There are 3, 2 and none. And one is a joke about JLo looking better without makeup, so it is really 3,1,1. Point is, statistically, hispanics and asians are underrepresented and “brown women” are overrepresented. And as far as taking issue with the hot list, he was looking for non-traditional additions. Everyone’s taste is different and that is the point.

No. 66 ilnazhad says:

That’s right, Lisa.
Cord recognized plenty of black women. Going out of his way to have more black women than white women on the list would be reverse racism. And having a list consisting of only black women would be counterproductive, too. That would suggest out of black women, these black women are the most attractive. But only out of other black women. A list with all races shows that the women Cord finds the most beautiful are of all races. Black and white are equally beautiful. We don’t want to be regressive, here…

No. 67 *smh* says:

***sighs*** im not trying to make this “statistical”! the point that im trying to make that seems to be going over your heads is that yes, i know i live in a country where there are more peach people in the industry-i.e. music, movies & news-than any other minority group….my point is that there are numerous talented women of color out there that never get noticed b/c they are not mainstream enough. i just thought that for once, here is an intelligent black men composing this “list” & i just assumed that there would be more women of color. it has nothing to do with being racist. all of the other mags are helmed by peach people with their p.o.v on what they think is beautiful. i thought cord would have had a little more representation-a broader spectrum in terms of color of what he thought was beautiful. its hard to explain if you’re not a minority…sometimes you just want the non-stereotypical, strong, gorgeous women images out there to represent for your race–not hoochie mama, ghettofied, ass-hanging out type of women dropping it like its hot

Because he is a man of color he should have included more women of color (defined as black since you didn’t discuss the lack of asian or hispanic or indian or middle eastern for that matter)? Is that what you are trying to say? If so, why should he?

I am an ethnic minority, actually. I’m Iranian and there isn’t anybody from Asia on that list. There are very few Asians who are public figures.
But there shouldn’t be affirmative action on a “hot list” because no race has become less beautiful because of abuse from more powerful races. Minorities have been disadvantaged in many ways, but nobody can make you less beauteous. I think he posted images of people he thought were beautiful without a single thought about their ethnicity.
3 out of 15 people on his list are black. 12 percent of Americans are black. There is tangible proof that he did not ignore the black community.
There is no tangible proof that he went out of his way to not include Asians. But I don’t go around accusing people of racism. And pretending my words just fly over their heads because I have so much more brainpower. But, you know, it’s hard to explain if you’re a minority…

I’m sorry. I still think you’re accusations are innapropriate, but I empathize with your frustration. I’ve been a victim of racism for the majority of my life, especially when I went to school in Thailand. And it hurts. And subtle racism, like exclusion from “hot lists,” kills slowly, too. I see why you have resentment for those who even seem to have a hint of bogotry in them. But that’s the wrong way to deal.
But having been a target of such ignorance and truculence should make you even more sensitive to misplaced anger.
It hurts being called a racist, too. It hurts being accused of thinking your own race is ugly. It hurts.

No. 85 *smh* says:

i actually dont think its spelled “prerogative” either ilnahzad but thats neither here nor there….i dont think its wrong for me to want to see a racially mixed list of anything-not just one dominant race! when i made the comment about “going over your head” i meant that as a brown woman i want positive images of women–in any minority–in the media, tv, movies, music etc. its not about me being a “misunderstood genius”. i was not trying to downplay anyone’s intelligence–i will admit that i used poor word choices in that instance. i am not wrong for wanting to see darker skinned women in the industry and wherever else. i was giving MY personal opinion on how I feel! i dont need anyone to tell me how i should/shouldnt feel–just like everyone else voices their opinion on here. i dont give a rats ass about “black people make up 15 percent of america blah blah blah” so what?! everyones entitled to feel or say whatever. my “accusations” weren’t “innappropiate” b/c it was opinion. i grew up/live in the south, i know all about bigotry & being excluded from all kinds of shit. i wouldnt say it hurts but its definitely made me feel like i have to “prove” something b/c black woman are oftentimes portrayed negatively & i have to constantly struggle to “prove” myself. i dont want my niece to have to go through all that bullshit!! and while i dont believe in a celebrity being a “role model”, unfortunately that is the case sometimes. so when she watches thats so raven & says she wants to be successful like her & have her own tv show,, im ok with that. raven is a positive black woman. at least she doesnt want to be like lil kim! thats what i meant when i said its hard to explain if you’re not a minority!! theres lots of little things & stereotypes that you have to deal with sometimes everyday. so excuse the hell outta me for having an opinion!

Dude, I like being called a ‘peach’ person. I think it’s cute and it didn’t come across as hateful.

I do get bummed about many race conversations coming down to black/brown and white/peach, without much consideration for the wide spectrum of people who inhabit this country/earth.

I won’t, however, participate in a group hug, as I had enough of those at my last job. Literally.

*smh*, I love a good argument. I also love to watch a good argument. I love to see people with opinions and passions that they express with their words. But I also like a fair fight.

I think you started the attacks by saying a few things like in post #67 “maybe this is going over your heads”. You don’t have to insult and demean your opponent.

1. Keep the passion, but take out the insult.

Or how about Post #75? You missed the tongue-in- cheek that chelsea at #72 was bringing.

2. Keep your sense of humor. When you can take a break from your passionate argument and laugh, it makes you endearing, and people will want to hear you more.

Then, it’s like you never even read or soaked in what ilnazhad was saying in post #76. I think everyone should read that.

3. Listen to others, you might get a fuller perspective.

Then you missed the nice post #79 were ilnazhad had some very healing things to say.

4. I’m trying to get a group hug going here.

Come on, *smh*, GROUP HUG!! :-)

1. “my “accusations” weren’t “innappropiate” b/c it was opinion.”

If someone says they think black people are inferior, is that OK because it is an opinion?

2. “everyones entitled to feel or say whatever”

Well, I guess you do think calling black people “failures” is fine, then. Because it’s some lunatics opinion.

2. “i dont need anyone to tell me how i should/shouldnt feel–just like everyone else voices their opinion on here.”

What are you even trying to say here? Your response to Cord’s post was condemning his opinion. Then some condemned your opinion. Then you condemned us for condemning your opinion.

3. “i actually dont think its spelled “prerogative” either ilnahzad”

Oh, well, the dictionary disagrees with you. But that cock ferret shouldn’t be so preachy. Why does it keep trying to tell you how you should feel??!!!

4. “i dont give a rats ass about “black people make up 15 percent of america blah blah blah” so what?!
“im not trying to make this “statistical”!”

Your disgust of evidence shows that your opinions consist only of emotion. They should consist of emotion and rational.

4. “once again i was airing out a grievance that there are never women of color portrayed in these “hot list” & i was just disappointed….”
“I dont think its wrong for me to want to see a racially mixed list of anything-not just one dominant race!”

It’s not at all wrong to expect racial balance! I just don’t agree that Cord did not present enough black women he finds beautiful. The mainstream media does not provide nearly enough positive role-models for black people. This has been noted on this Mollygood.

5. “my point is that there are numerous talented women of color out there that never get noticed b/c they are not mainstream enough.”

We never disagreed with this point.

6. “damn cord, i thought you were the man”

CORD IS THE MAN!
ARGH!

Oh my Good LORD. Can’t an old lady just call for a group hug? What? Is it too much to ask for?

Yes, I see that we are all feeling passionate tonight.

Let the RECORD show: ( you all that are dear to my heart know how the lawyer words goosebump me. Here is my court reporter skills submitted for your approval…)

At # 75 *smh* said “…airing out a grievance that there are never women of color protrayed in these “hot list” & i was just disappointed….”

When in fact there were women of color in this particular list.

And *smh* DID in fact in the prior sentence spell the word prerogative “perrogative”. post #75.

Thus inspiring Ilnazhad’s correction of the word.

It’s all there in black and white. And peach.

Hey it’s me, queencrone, and I am handing out the ’smores that we are making at this warm bonfire. I’ll get a group hug yet. And maybe even a fun sing along.

We are all human. And this post meant to me that some folks are looking into our hearts and souls to sense our attractiveness.

That is a very special thing to have someone see your heart and soul. It is even more sweet an valuable as you get older.

You can not help what your outer features are. Or skin tone. Dark, brown, caramel or peach.

That is determined by your parents, and their parents, etc.

You see how we all here are fighting the same battle? *smh* didn’t listen to ilnazhad. We are on the same side. Let’s listen.

Group hug has been completed. I’m going to bed.
I’ll take two ’smores with me. thanks bye. :-)

I in no way mean to attack you because I see your point. However, America IS wrong. Since when have fake breast, hair extensions and spray on tans become the standard by which beauty is judged? I am so freakin sick and tired of seeing these chicks who look like the came manufactured from the WHORE Warehouse. I mean, come on! And your comment about Serena! I am a proud African-American woman and I love my ass, and I know PLENTY of men who LOVE Serena’s ass. I would hardly describe it as scary. Do you think that all black women’s shapes are “scary”? Is that why white women are now getting ASS IMPLANTS to have a shape like Serena? I think THAT is more scary.

No group hug from me, QC. Its just really irritating to me that “someone” has made this into a racial issue. Maybe “someone ” needs to take a nice long look in the mirror, and think outside of the “racial box”. Possibly “someones” problems have not been because of their race….Instead, the person that they are.

@ queencrone-if you read my last statement you would have seen that i did apologize for the whole “going over your head thing”….. i have never said black people are inferior–no race is inferior. we’re all human-all the same. im entitled to my opinion, so is everyone else on this site. you can crititize or disagree, and thats fine as well. and you know what, i DONT know what race anyone is on here….everyone posting could be black for all i know. i know racism does not just exist in the south–unfortunately its global and not just to black people. all races can experience it. obviously i wasnt that upset about my comment “damn cord, i thought you were the man” it was a joke. otherwise if it offended me that bad i would never come back to this site again-but it didnt & i still came back. i know the list was made to be taken lightly. once again, i was being vocal about my opinion. i thought you could do that here. i read several other sites & this one seems to bethe most inteligent & opinionated & i think thats refreshing! i think race issues need to be aired out & talked about more often. its like the pink elephant in the room. we know its there but everyones afraid to talk about it. if we dont talk about it, the issues will never be resolved. sadly, with the way the world is today, i dont think racism will ever stop. i am half black/half japanese & i have been called some of the worst things you can say to anybody & told that neither of my races were beautiful. i just want for my all of my nieces, cousins or whoever to have some positve images that can see from time to time & can relate to & know they dont have to be a certain race to succeed. i am glad i made the comment & i dont regret it because if its going to engage conversation or spark a debate about an important issue, then it was well worth it. it raises awareness & you have a chance to see other peoples opinions about things. im not condemning anybody–it was one of those half-joking/half-truth kind of comments that i made & if i offended anyone that was not my intent. i still stand by what i said because it is a reality. its not about me thinking my race is more inferior. there werent any japanese women on the list either but you know, im not going to get into all of that b/c i feel like i would get crucified if i took it there and we would be typing long comments back and forth for hours & hours! because everyones voice wants to be heard and recognized and everybody wants to believe in some way that the their opinion is right-not just this particular instance, but just in general. just like i heard your side i hope that you can at least try to see where im coming from.

I would love to see Salma Hayek, Penelope Cruz, Cate Blanchett, and Kate Winslet on the list. I LOVE them all. Helen Mirren, too, all you people who suggested her.

I thought this list was pretty diverse. It is clear, to me anyway, that many of the nominees are of mixed race or have a more exotic look than the average blonde/fake-tan/fake-boob/lip injected/hussy. Obviously there are omissions, but it doesn’t necessarily mean that they were racist omissions. I don’t see any Greek people, but I don’t think Cord is racist against Greek people. Don’t be so sensitive. :) (I am Greek.)

And to the above person who said she was Iranian, Iranian women are BEAUTIFUL. I have a friend who is Iranian/Spanish and I think she is, quite literally, the most beautiful woman alive today.
