WTF?

swastikagarbage

Though you’d never be able to tell it from the mindless garbage it kicks down viewers’ throats for hours on end, MTV is worried about the state of the nation. It thinks people are becoming voids unwilling to stand up for themselves, their families and all that’s generally good. But rather than rethink its programming — an endless visual wasteland of materialistic, trite, misogynistic reality shows — MTV has done just what you’d expect from a major corporation that doesn’t really care about what they say they do: commercials! Scary commercials; ones that clunkily use Holocaust imagery for effect.

It’s a bad, bad idea you have to see to believe. Which you can, after the jump.

Totally agree. It’s Bush’s world and we’re all sitting around watching it happen.

We’re in, or heading for a recession because we’re spending trillions killing people in Iraq.

This is not what America is supposed to be. We’re supposed to be the good guys.

WTF?????? What is this supposed to accomplish? What are they even for? Why are they wasting money on these things when genocide is happening again in Africa? Why can’t they make a commercial about sending money and aid to Darfur? WHAT THE FUCK?

@kerryberry: jewish people have some of the top positions in entertainment. Black people live in Africa. Does that help you see why its important to remember history while ignoring the present

Uh, Katie…
The area of the world where Adolph Hitler is still revered as a progressive thinker is the Arabic Middle East. Agree with the war or not, it is the Arab Muslim Fundamentalists who are the new Nazis, not George Bush. Remember the women who were publicly stoned to death in the soccer stadiums of Afghanistan by the Taliban for the crime of showing their faces in public? Achtung Juden!

@ conscientious objector: While I will not get into the jewish conspiracy, I will state that genocide is genocide. I don’t care what the color of the skin might be. It is very important to remember history, but I was under the impression the reason was to keep it from repeating.

So, is MTV saying we’re Jews? Or that Jews during WWII were apathetic and unthinking? Oh, I know! The Holocaust happened because Jewish people didn’t stand up for themselves. Don’t be like the Jews! Thanks, MTV, for that lesson in History for Assholes.

While I can’t know for sure the majority of MTV’s audience, I’m pretty sure that it’s safe to say: “No, MTV, the Holocaust did not happen to people ‘just like us’. It happened to a historically persecuted minority that made a handy scapegoat in a time of economic and social upheaval.” Safer to say: “The Holocaust was perpetrated by people just like us” (and it doesn’t seem to me that that is what the commercials were implying).

Bullshit, MTV, you stupid “Hills”-making network.

This is disgusting. So the train ride to the death camps, where people dropped dead from dehydration and suffocation, was like a bad subway ride?

It’s worth noting that Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom Hashoah) is on May 1st.

As Katie noted, genocide is genocide - no matter the color of one’s skin.

All that said, MTV sucks more than Paris Hilton after a night of snorting coke.

I am not even going to watch the videos now (I am in class), but I will venture a guess: MTV is so incredibly irrelevant that it has actually BECOME Heidi and Spencer, and has reduced itself to a series of cheap publicity stunts for blog coverage, with the philosophy that it is better to have your name in bold print, than no print at all.

No. 16 ChoniBaretz says:

Okay, I couldn’t resist the curiosity. I still stand by my statement that MTV is irrelevant, but as a Jew, I don’t find the ads offensive at all. My take on the message was that the Holocaust (or any genocide)happened to regular people-people like you and me. Not abstract people who are “different” from the rest of us, and thus easy to dissociate one’s self from. However, if MTV really cares about the state of America, they should just stop broadcasting–they promote terrible values 99% of the time.

Here is a classic poem that provides food for thought:

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn’t a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

Well, this crap has been going on for longer than the Bush administration. False shit making up propaganda is what created history in this country, and why every other country has a full right to despise Americans… I feel like I’ve said this before -
Either way, all you need to do is read and you’ll see it’s been going on way, way before our lifetimes. How do you think blacks got segregated, women didn’t have right, pot becoming illegal, making it almost impossible for REAL food and effective herbal treatments to get approved by the FDA? It’s all intentional.
