Destroying Beautiful Things

It's one thing to remake the Fraggles, because, much as we feign outrage, we don't really remember what that show was about or why we liked it. But now Hollywood's fucking with our dear, dear independent films about crippling despair and the hopelessness of modern life. Now we're mad.

Nicolas Cage has been tapped to star in a remake of the 1992 classic Bad Lieutenant. Originally starring Harvey Keitel as the title character, Lieutenant focuses on a slowly unraveling New York City cop's search for salvation while working to solve a case of a raped nun. Why anyone is remaking it is beyond us, but we're certain the final product is going to be whitewashed of its predecessor's grime and NC-17 rating.

After the jump, catch some of Bad Lieutenant in its gritty glory before Nicolas Coppola has the chance to miss all Keitel's nuances. Be forewarned: some of it is seriously NSFW.

I look forward to these Nic Coppola roles nowadays for the purpose of hilarity.

I was unceremoniously dragged to see National Treasure 2 during its theater run and I can tell you, that is probably the best example of the Nic Cage overacting ever. It was fantasmagorical, not lieing.

Jesus, can't Hollywood come up with new ideas? This whole reimagining moves has gotten out of control. I read awhile back the Michael Bay's Platinum Dunes company was talking about remaking the first Saw movie. I still remember the quote form the article, it went something like this, "we're doing it for the new generation of kids who never got to see it in theaters." Saw came out in 2004!!!

I love Casablanca, its one of my favorite moves. I never got to see it in a theater, but I sure as hell don't want some tool to remake just so I can.

As for Nicolas Cage, he used to be a good actor. Something happened to him in the 90's and he thought he was good enough to start playing himself in all his movies. There is only a handful of actors that can pull off playing themselves in any move they are in. Jack Nicholson made it an artform.

But I digress. Hollywood, take your head out of your ass and make some new movies. Look at it this way, if you don't start making original movies, what are you going to to rip-off in 10 years when you're too lazy to use your heads?

I yield my remaining time on the soap box to the next speaker.

I concur wholeheartedly, but I thought this past year was a very refreshing one for Hollywood. We saw many a commercialized action flick/remake/pile of vomit flop and two excellent films with an intelligent demographic (There Will be Blood and No Country) recognized as successes.

One of the biggest pieces of women hating shit on screen. Harvey is an asshole for doing it. Raping a nun on an alter, and OF COURSE! the stupid cross in the background. Then giving the pieces of shit that did it money to leave town. Ah, to go where? The writer couldn’t have been—let's say an angry, catholic, women hating (same thing) recovering alcoholic? And SUPRISE! Porto Rican!
Not nearly enough cliché’s. I am sure it will be cleaned up if Nicky is doing it. The last chance he took was Leaving Las Vegas.Hate this film!!!!!
