Paul Newman, one of the few Hollywood players who was loved and respected by everyone, died of cancer Friday at his Connecticut home. He was 83.

Robert Forrester, vice chairman of Newman's Own Foundation, summed Paul's life up most eloquently:

Paul took advantage of what life offered him, and while personally reluctant to acknowledge that he was doing anything special, he forever changed the lives of many with his generosity, humor, and humanness. His legacy lives on in the charities he supported … for which he cared so much.

He will be truly missed.

The post reporting Heath Ledger's death avoided any sentiment. I like it this way.

He is my favorite once. Just saw his personals ID on a wealthy 40 plus personals site """""S e e k i n g 4 0 p l u s C 0 M"""""" last year. I am wondering what kind of relationship he is looking for on that site. ☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆☆

So much more than just a good looking actor–stayed with his wife instead of trading her in for a newer model, raced cars into his 70's, all the charity work. . .a really class act. May God rest his soul. He will be missed. :(

This is dumb..but wasn't he hot!?

I mean he had an awesome sense of style, I love the myriad of necklaces, the short shorts, the hair cuts. he was goddamn FINE. Great body and how many men look so cool in their 40's-70's…not many.

That is really sad. He was a hell of a good guy and will be missed. A lot of Hollywood actor could learn something from his generation of actors. He was a perfect example of old Hollywood at it's best.

it's hard not to admire Paul Newman for putting his money to work in such productive ways, such as his Newman's Own line–high quality stuff and the proceeds go to good causes… very smart.
