Shut Up, Randy
American Idol’s Neil Diamond night was just as disastrous as I feared, and it’s safe to assume everyone not named David is in danger of getting axed tonight. Everybody was off their game, including sobriety princess Paula Abdul. Once each contestant had performed their first songs of the evening, Ryan asked the judges to offer their comments; naturally, Paula began giving Jason Castro her critique of both his songs, one of which had yet to be sung. Her excuse: “This is hard.”
So what happened? Conspiracy theorists are crying foul, saying the show is fixed and she had written the critiques beforehand, but we’re talking about Paula Abdul here. It’s quite possible that she just mixed the wrong meds.

The judges see all the performances during the rehearsal right before the show. They’re definitely not seeing them for the first time live. I don’t think that so outrageous- in fact I think its a good idea. Its hard to critique something you’ve only heard once (and with 1,000 screaming teeny boppers in your ear).
I think they sit throught the rehersals and here them. So I think it would be far to make notes then.

Paula was looking especially prom-like last night.
I call constructive dismissal.
She dozed off in the middle of the song (as who of us did not?) and thought there were two songs. Maybe.
I did that at a Dave Matthews Band concert once. Granted, I was shithoused and there was surely a contact high going through my sytem.
Maybe Paula and I aren’t so different?
