Missing The Point

petachicks.jpg

PETA participated in a demonstration yesterday in D.C., but we stopped paying attention to the message due to the fact that the group’s tactics are so darn predictable. Putting naked or barely clothed women in cages and/or showers is probably not the best way to get those bigwig lobbyists thinking with their heads.

I would have more respect for PETA if they weren’t such hypocrites.

I don’t get how “chicks suffer for eggs”.

1. Eat the eggs, there are no chicks. No chicks, no suffering.
2. That girl on the end looks like she eats a lot of eggs.
3. Live chicks are too young to lay eggs of their own, and if they do then they should suffer the consequences.

There are legitimate ethical/moral concerns about some practices in the egg and poultry industries. However, many of the PETA folks want you to just stop eating animal products altogether. Stupid idea. Our bodies need vitamin B12 from animal products.

Those girls look kinda chunky - they must have replaced their animal protein with saturated fat.

most people in PETA are just joiners. they want to be able to say they stand for something so they join the biggest group they can find. nevermind the fact that PETA does very little for the animal rights movement. these people need to apply their time and energy to a group that doesn’t just stand for shock tactics. i’m an animal lover but i’d rather die than give an ounce of my time, energy or money to ingrid and her zombies.

Where was PETA when pets were abandoned, starving, sick and dying in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina?
Answer: NOT THERE!!!!!
They suck as an organization. They ARE hypocrites.

I’m all for animals being treated in a humane way. I think anyone who abuses animals is just about the lowest piece of trash there is. That being said, if some animals have to die so that scientist can figure out how to cure some diseases, so be it.

This sort of sexist bullshit is why I will be wearing Chinchilla and eating veal this winter.

No. 13 Chanel says:

Its not sexist. Chickens arent “clothed” in cages. This was meant to show what its like; those cages were not layered with soft cloth. The girls in there ended upi with cuts and bruises and loss of feeling in their legs. If you actually WENT to the protest you would have seen that NONE of those girls were past a size 3. All eat VEGAN or VEGETARIAN and organic. None of us in that photo act out violently. If you all took the time to get to know people; yo would know 2 of those girls and the mother who helped in the protest ran a No Kill shelter in their previous hometown; they save and rescue cats and KEEP them and nurse them. These girls WORK hard to keep animals out of harms way; just because PETA messes up; does not mean you have the right to say HALF of the things you all did. None of you had knowledge. GO SPEAK OUT and GO HELP then; maybe not under PETA but under whatever else. HELP animals; dont sit here bashing people who are at least TRYING.

the negative comments:
a. “this sort of sexist bullshit is why i will be wearing chincilla and eating veal this winter,”

and
d. “Those girls look kinda chunky - they must have replaced their animal protein with saturated fat”
go from (a) hateful and ignorant to (b) misguided, (c) clueless and (d) simply sarcastic.

peta is not perfection, but peta is great at bringing attention to issues. if any one of those commentators had been to the demonstration they would have known the women in the cages roused spectator curiosity. the people leafleting were able to engage them in civil and educational conversation about the horrors of factory farming of hens for the egg industry and how they could help reduce/stop the torture of these animals. while removing all eggs from one’s diet is optimal, being conscientious and making the move to purchase free-range or cage-free/humanely farmed eggs was also encouraged as a way to send a message to the industry that this flagrant torture of chickens has to end.

so i for one will continue to support peta in what it does well, raising awareness. that demonstration brought a lot of shocked and concerned “i didn’t know [about the conditions of factory farmed hens]” responses. now that these people know better, they have a chance to do better. the war may not have been won with this one demonstration (and how many are with just one engagement?), but i’d definitely say for that day our mission was accomplished.

Angela, Way to miss the point of the “Chicks suffer”. If you’re going to be pretentious, at least think before speaking.. or wait.. maybe just keep doing what you’re doing.

LOOK! It’s PETA doing another thing about animals or something! “Yep.. sure is.. anyway where do you wanna eat?”

Exactly.
