Enjoying His 15 Minutes

Saturday Night Live has chosen Michael Phelps to host the season opener on Sept. 13 with rapper (and Phelps favorite) Lil Wayne. We're not going to argue, because this means a) we can enjoy Michael on our television sets once again and b) he will be in NYC … but really? Michael Phelps? This has the potential to be the most awkward 90 minutes of television we've seen in a long time.

Anyone else remember Wayne Gretzky hosting SNL? I reckon it'll be that bad.

This will be soooo bad. I mean come on, have you listen to him be interviewed? With all the money he has he should go down to the community college and take some public speaking classes.

The Olympics are over NBC, let Mike go.

I do remember the Wayne Gretzky one, and YES it was awful. Wayne Gretzky's acting made my first grade class's performance of "The Pine Tree" look like Masterpiece Theater by comparison. This ought to be. . .similar.

Oh man why all the Gretzky knocks? Does no one remember the classic "Waikiki Hockey"?

Run-DMS, that's exactly what I thoguht of, that and Nancy Kerrigan.

I seem to remember an athlete who did a good job on SNL but I can't remember exactly who it was.

Peyton Manning was also quite good. Tom Brady sucked, except for the brilliant digital short "Sexual Harassment & You"

And Waikiki Hockey is a classic

actually, OJ Simpson performance on SNL back in the day was hilarious. There was a Mandingo spoof and a skit where OJ had some guys over to watch the game in which Walter Payton was going to break his record, and while he was pretending to be OK with it, OJ had a little walter payton voodoo doll
