Model Behavior

Last night, Whitney, a 20-year-old student from Florida, became the first ever plus-size winner of America’s Next Top Model. It’s a huge step for the advancement of the belief that all women deserve to be objectified.

wait, she’s plus sized? weird.
‘i love my curves, women should have curves!’ screw you! i don’t have any curves, and i don’t think i should - so sick of being told what women should or shouldn’t look like if they want men to jerk off thinking about them.
Toots was so happy to see Whitney win. Toots also felt that she was always the prettiest one–with the best hair, to boot.
GOOD FOR YOU, WHITNEY! Toots can envision her being super famous.
Mark Toots’ words: you will see Whitney for years to come.
I don’t think she was trying to offend anyone by saying women should have curves. Women are supposed to be soft would have been a better statement.
oh, did she even say that? i was just generally referring to the argument made by women ‘with curves.’ i’m sure whats-her-face wasn’t trying to offend anyone by being a six 6 (or whatever ridiculously small size they’re considering plus size on ANTM) - ‘all women deserve to be objectified’ is a great way to put it cord. yikes - i’m not being very articulate today. i feel the way a dim-witted person must, except i have the additional bonus of being aware that i feel dim-witted.
tyra putting this girl in the plus sized catagory makes me want to hunt her down and beat the crap out of her.
Adeline.Jane, most dim-witted people aren’t smart enough to realize that they aren’t being articulate, so you can breathe easy about that!
And Whitney’s “plus-size” label? Ridiculous. No one who is plus-sized looks that good in a bathing suit. (Is that even a bathing suit?) Props to her for winning despite not being a size 0, but let’s be realistic - she is far from being a size 14, and that is generally what is considered the lowest size on the plus size scale.
I’m just glad her weight is in the three digit category… I’m also fairly certain that Tyra only let her win for publicity, which is shitty.
Sorry to be neg, but her face in that bondage shot is really unattractive.
“Is that even a bathing suit?”
I think it’s just toilet paper wrapped around and around her.
adeline.jane- Your statement is very true. The point people should be getting across is that women of all sizes are beautiful, and neither curves nor model tall&thin automatically equal beauty. It’s all about the inside, your confidence, etc.
Like Cord’s Hot Woman List!!
Yay, Whitney!!
yeah, and also every time a woman is introduced on a late night show or whatevs, its ‘the beautiful and talented _____’ as if being talented is intricately interwoven with beauty. who cares if someone is beautiful? seriously? i mean, unless you’re literally actively trying to have sex with someone, it shouldn’t matter what the fuck they look like, right? who the hell am i though …
Agreed, that picture of her in the “bathing suit” is absolutely horrible. She looks like she needs to take a giant “Tyra”.
I wanted Anya to win. She was never in the bottom 3 and was geniunely good at being a model. Wah! Did you hear the rumor that Whitney gained weight to go on the show?? I guess she was 20 pounds lighter and a struggling model and she gained the weight when a producer from ANTM suggested it. Hmm. Sort of puts all her “I was teased for being fat” bullshiz in another light - like what, she was teased for 3 months?
Kittenpaw, I heard that, too. There are pictures of her floating around a good 20 pounds lighter. Word on the street is she wasn’t tiny enough to make it as a “regular” model, so she gained the weight to be in the “plus size” category.
Either way, I’m happy she won.
Does Tyra consider herself a plus sized model?
I don’t get it. She’s not plus sized. She’s average sized. The broads in Lane Bryant do not look that thin.
I agree that her being “plus size” is stretching it. Remember when they gave Diana (the plus size white girl a few seasons back) a hard time because she wasn’t “plus” enough? I think Diana was bigger than Whitney. I don’t think Whitney will have an easy time with modeling b/c she’s not skinny enough or fat enough.
Plus-size models start at size 12, although I’ve known size 10 models who were a little under 5′9″. It’s silly, but so is the rest of the modeling world.
Ok, maybe I’m the only one thinking: “Twenty!” Seriously, not looking very youthful to me. But I think she has a beautiful body.
I agree, I think she is very pretty, but calling her plus size is a bit of a stretch.
If she’s plus sized, then I’m morbidly obese. That’s just fucking retarded. The girl is skinny.
You do have to be fat to think that Whitney is skinny. seriously, ANTM is supposed to be a modelling competition, I’m sorry to break it out to you but it’s about fantasy, not average people. Isn’t obesity a bigger issue than anorexia in America right now? Whitney looks healthy enough and if she just keeps eating a lot she’ll be able to work as a plus size model but Anya was definitely more top model material.
Then, jes, you don’t have to be fat to think that Whitney is skinny. By your own admission, one just needs to be applying real-world standards to the non-average world of modeling. And why link anorexia and obesity? They aren’t correlated, really - different factors attribute to each. But thanks for taking hyperbole literally and calling people fat. It really adds an air of credibility to your opinions.
i think i love you lisa.
I don’t think Whitney is skinny at all…I’d say she’s chubby, but I’m also a size 0.
I guess it’s all in the way you look at it. In the real world, Whitney is by no means plus sized nor is she fat. However, in the competetive world of runway modeling, they would consider her plus sized which is depressing and pathetic. She doesn’t seem like she would fall into the Lane Bryant category either, thereby possibly alienating both the plus sized and the “standard size” models. Personally, I don’t see her as a stick thin model or a plus sized one either so I’m not really sure how she could be marketed.
Her comment that women should have curves is also sort of a slap in the face. Women shouldn’t have to feel they need to fall into one category or another (as far as curves versus no curves). I think it would have been a lot more impressive of her to say “women should embrace thier bodies regardless of shape”. I get what she was trying to say, but it just came out wrong.
For the record Whitney is listed as 159lbs and wears a size 12. And yes- she LOOKS like a size 12. Its called “airbrushing”
She’s right. Girls need curves. I’m sick of seeing all these skinny girls without curves as models. They look like boys, but less interesting.
I’m sick of women being told they aren’t skinny enough.
I always thought models were skinny because sample size created by designers were the smallest thing possible to save money on expensive fabric but I might be wrong. Models live in a fantasy world were image is distorted but they live in it by their own choice no? Sorry I didn’t think much b4 posting my previous comment I was just putting together random thoughts after watching the finale and I didn’t mean to come across as so offensive. For the record I don’t think that Whitney is fat, but I really don’t think she can qualifies as skinny. Skinny to me means lacking curves, bones sticking out, very low body fat, etc. Which is not healthy either. Applying real world standards doesn’t make her skinny, it only makes her average. Because the average is getting bigger and bigger every year, she might eventually be considered smaller than everage, but still not skinny. Oh and she would have to weigh more than 159 to be a size 12, she is tall so 159 only makes her about an 8. Women should be whatever their body feels good at, I personnally will never be skinny by my own standards and couldn’t care less, I know I’m healthy and my body is good to me.
She’s generic.. I see her everyday in Wal-mart. Furthermore, who gives a shit?
5′10″ and a size 10 is “plus size”???? They dont sell anything less than a 14 in “plus size” stores. I am 5′ 7″ and at size 10 I consider myself pretty darned lean…no where near plus size. This is bullshit and only lowers the bar more for women. What, healthy lean is the new fat? This all makes me sick of American television and media in general.
That is retarded how they try to make it seem like they’re being equal opportunity employers by having larger girls. Where’s the shorter girls? The average American woman is 5′4, and they never allow anyone under 5′8 to win.
