Money Disappears

Less than a week after we noted that Pope Benedict XVI, who's looking mighty sad these days, should be doing things other than reading the Bible with celebrities for a week straight on Italian television, the pontiff heeded our call and expressed an almost Marxist sentiment at yesterday's meeting of over 200 bishops:

Benedict says that "now with the collapse of big banks we see that money disappears, is nothing and all these things that appear real are in fact of secondary importance." He urges those who build their lives "only on things that are visible, such as success, career, money" to keep that in mind.

How much you wanna bet most Catholics continue to ignore this one while running right along with the "gay unions are false" thing?

So,Cord. Will your advertisers now be bartering roots and dead gophers for advertising space on your blog?

I agree that money is not everything. But I wish the ex-Nazi pope would stop gay-bashing and woman-hating. When he finds out that sex and reproduction are really not his business– by his own vows to stay out of all that himself– THAT would be awesome.
I do not like that guy.

Yes - so awesome to bash capitalism. We should all give our money to the church so they can buy some more solid gold candle holders for the vatican.

Yeah, like ole Boris Karloff there is evah going to miss a meal or sleep in the street. Puhleeze. One hand smacking people who are making money and the other all up in their faces waiting for a palm greasing. Ewww….that just gives all kinda bad visuals when you combine it with historically unsavory Catholic news. Just no….

Don't get me wrong…the collapse is a huge mishmash of mismanagement on multiple levels and the little guy will suffer more than the power brokers, but, damn Gina, the Pope pontificating (heh) on morality of cash worship? Yep, and the sun is fucking hot, dude.

He lives in a gold-plated palace. If money is so evil, why doesn't he sell off all of those relics lying around?

No, no, no. It's only the condemnations of *other* people that are popular, Benedict. You'll never win the Millenial Pope Trophy this way. Sigh.

Full disclosure, I was raised Catholic but I haven't gone to church except for weddings for the past 20 years. I do have a certain respect for the Pope however. I don't agree with everything and it would be a stretch to ever think the Pope is going to accept gays and pre-marital sex, etc. But, the man has lived his life commited to God and is a peaceful person. Plus, he loves cats.
