Letterman's Punching Bag
Richard Simmons descended upon Capitol Hill to fight childhood obesity with a happy dance and emotional plea. We're sure his cause is a worthy one, but every time we look at him we can't help but be reminded of all his stints on David Letterman. Click through for two of our favorites (and you can watch Richard's Capitol Hill speech here).
First up is a recent trip to The Late Show in which Richard wears a tank top and shorts to show off his oiled-up legs. He begs for Dave's love while Dave insults him as much as possible.
And here is a clip from 1992, where Richard wears a tank top and shorts to show off his oiled-up legs. You know the rest. Good to see some things never change.

I don't like Dave Letterman. He's just a grumpy old man who isn't as funny as he thinks.
Dave is such an asshole.
He just goes on and on and on.
I can't believe his sheep audience claps at that shit.
I love RS. I just love him. That is all.
Really Dave, RS was being so nice and gracious in spite of all your rampant un-funniness. He has class. You are a washed up a-hole whose time came and went over 15 years ago. 1991 called. They want the gap in your teeth back.
I couldn't watch it. Richard may be annoying, but he has a good heart and he's clearly devoted to the cause of obestity. This isn't the first time David has been a prick to people on his show. I was just glad that time that Madonna called him a jerk. At least she said what we were all thinking (even if she was more than likely drunk).
I've always assumed it was an act between the two of them. Dave has had him on way too much if they didn't like each other. Simmons has to right up there with the celebrities who have appeared the most on Lettermen.
I agree with Keebler. They both have this familiar relationship based on annoying each other. But it's striking in the latest clip vs. the 1992 one how obvious it is that Dave is just mailing it in now. I guess it's a fine line from having a biting sense of humor to becoming a bitter, grumpy old man.
I'm sorry pussytoes, some of the more beetchy MG commenters have a strict moratorium on "_____ called and they want their ______ back" jokes.* First one's a warning, second one will be punished by someone peeing in your eyes**, and that is never pretty.
I genuinely love Richard Simmons and think he is one of the last of a dying breed entertainment (Bruce Vilanch, Tiny Tim, Wierd Al, et al), but I have never heard a person who wears bejeweled silken nuthuggers as 'having class'. It made my day!!

** Just realized this could be construed as a violent threat in mixed company
PS, MORE LIEK RICHARD SIMMONS LEGGY-CY, M I RITE?
Can someone give Killorn an AMEN?
Anyone…anyone…Bueller…Bueller…
I'll second the motion for killorn!
I have love Richard Simmons since I first saw him on General Hospital back in the 80's I think it was.
I bought his little "book" back then. (in the 80's) Y
You moved cards over to the other side of the book when you ate something. When you were out of cards to move over, you were done eating for the day.
I have ALWAYS cheated at cards.
killorn for president.
i'm just sayin'.
Where is his armpit hair? Where?!
