Nicole Richie and boyfriend Joel Madden yesterday held a "baby shower" for 100 needy mothers and mothers-to-be.

The couple gifted more than $200,000 worth of baby goods, including cribs, strollers and clothing, to the women gathered at the Hollywood branch of the Los Angeles Free Clinic; officially launching their new, nonprofit venture, the Richie-Madden Children's Foundation. Says Madden: "We grew up in Los Angeles…We love L.A., we love this city, we're happy to be a part of this community."

Madden actually grew up in Maryland and we're friends with a guy who went to high school with him there. We're not sure why he's lying, but, whatever: charity!

After the jump, many more photos.

Her face looks so much better with fat, and I really like her cuff. I think that naming a foundation after yourself is kind of self…I don't know what, but if a foundation (or disease) is named after someone famous like Lou Gerig or Christopher Reeves, it's usually for a reason. BUT it's a good thing nonetheless.

He didn't say he spent his childhood in LA. He said he grew up there. Maybe he didn't grow up until the past year. ;)

"I love these two, I love them even more for what they are doing" I wish you all the best with your own baby, hope it is born on mine or my daughter's birthday next month. Who care if they named it after themselves, its a good thing none the less.

It's beautiful that Joel and Nicole are giving these mothers such important things. I'm happy that they're happy.

Now, if I could only convince Benji that I'm better for him than that Monk girl….

They don't have to be married to bring a child into a loving atmosphere..we're going into 2008 folks! Not 1908….Plus they're actually doing some good here..so cut them a break…And I think this is the best I've ever seen Nicole! Pregnancy suits her..

i take my hat off to them both, what they are doing is a really great thing and something that is needed so many miss out on even just the basic necessitys, when you have got it to often you take it for granted, its great that they are both using there media contacts and generosity to give a little back, their baby girl is very lucky to have such great parents.
