"I'm Just a Girl!"

Rihanna recently told People magazine that her potential beaus must first go through a screening process conducted by her musical mentor Jay-Z.
"He's very protective," she says of her mentor, who discovered her and signed her to his Def Jam label. "Jay has my best interests in mind. If it's a good guy I know Jay won't shut him down. But if he's not, Jay will be like, 'No, no, no.' "
And exactly who are the guys trying to court Rihanna? "He actually never tells me. I have no clue who they are and I guess I'll never know," she says.
I would say it's a bit frightening that a 19-year-old woman is so comfortable allowing her male musical mentor to dictate what she can and can't do, but it worked for Tina Turner, right?

To be fair to this woman.. she is from another country. i dont know the customs in barbados. I just think of it as a party spot, but people live and grow up there.. they may have a culture that is very controlling of women.
she might not even know that statements like that, here are pittied.
I am in no way saying I agree with this. But i tend to give slack to women from other countries and cultures.
Jay-Z is from brooklyn however.. so i say to that. WHAT THE FUCK is wrong with him that he thinks he has the right to be suck a controlling prick over her? At the very least he should be talling her who wants to "court" her. this isnt victorian england.. these men should be approaching her, not him, and she should be , if she wants, asking for his advice.
Eh…being from the Caribbean myself I wouldn't consider the culture in Barbados as controlling of women. This might be just a personal thing with these two, and it reads a bit differently when you consider the rumors (*ahem*). Also, I read it as Jay-Z trying to protect her from the shady men he knows, which isn't all that bad, is it?
It reads to me more like Jay-Z trying to string along a young girl that just might have the hots for him. Having a girl like B on your arm and a girl like Rihanna waiting for you if things fail, thats just smart thinking. I think Rihanna needs to start thinking for herself.
Pepperdog, that's a really good point! If that's the case, he's smarter than I realized.
